They quoted me at 1500.00 and I gave him a deposit of 500.00. I have not heard from him since September 22, 2009. I have tried to call him several times and he is not responsive and not returning my calls.

They did not match the mortar, regardless of how many times we pointed out that it did not match. They missed places in the mortar. They drilled out places to tuck point and never filled them in. They left us somewhat of a mess. They left in a hurry and we had to have someone else come in and clean up. They didn't have anyone on the job that spoke English regularly so it was hard to translate what needed to be done.
Description of Work: They were tuck pointing our house and a garage which also has an apartment above it. It was basic repair work.

I asked Mr. Cook for an estimate on the cost to repair or replace the brick on my house. I attempted to set up the appointment 1 month in advance. Every time I called to confirm the appointment, the staff acted like they had never heard of me. Then Mr. Cook did not show for the appointment. After multiple calls to the office and also his cell, he finally arrived 9 hours late. I was even going to let that go, but he never did return with a bid or follow up with information concerning my brick problems. It was a very poor experience and I am glad his company was not chosen to perform any work for me.

It was awful. They were never here; we had to call to get their workers to come over. The owner of the company Blake Cook told one lie after another. The quality of their work was terrible.

I'm sorry the members have issues with the quality of the work. I was told that everything was fine during the course of the project, until the very end, and then I was not allowed to finish. I was only paid for 1/3 of this job, someone else finished it, even though I did 90% of the job. Unfortunately, we had a disagreement during the course of this project, and I very much regret this and take responsibility for that.

Cook masonry responded promptly to phone inquiry, gave an estimate that was reasonable. Their workman were polite and efficient. The impressive part was after the job was complete, Cody Cook came and inspected the job and called me to make sure I was happy with the work. The follow up quality assurance call was much appreciated. I would be happy to work with them again.

IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO FIND SOMEONE OR SOMETHING CHEAPER, IT'S JUST WHETHER OR NOT YOU'RE WILLING TO SETTLE FOR WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GET. ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A COMPANY THAT'S BEEN AROUND FOR 10 YEARS THAT WILL BE ABLE TO RESPOND IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS? WILL YOU HAVE SOMEONE ON THE JOB WITH INSURANCE? WHAT HAPPENS IF A BRICK GOES THROUGH YOUR BAY WINDOW OR THE WINDOW OF YOUR NEIGHBOR'S CAR, OR WORSE, SOMEONE GETS HURT? ANYBODY CAN SAY THEY CAN DO THE JOB, DO THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE, CAN THEY PROVIDE REFERENCES? WE CAN DO ALL THAT. WE'RE INSURED, WE'RE EXPERIENCED, AND WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR 10 YEARS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE HERE.

At first, the company was very helpful, coming to look at my house only a day after I called to ask for an estimate. The estimate was for complete tuckpointing (remove all existing mortar) of 2 concrete block courses of foundation wall on my house. It took 3 weeks (and several phone calls) to get the written estimate, which I feel was outrageously overpriced. For roughly 250 square feet of wall surface, they wanted to charge me $3300, which comes out to $13.20/sq ft. This is roughly twice the industry standard for tuckpointing brick! Brick tuckpointing should be more expensive than concrete block tuckpointing because there are several times as many mortar joints per square foot. So, needless to say, it seems as though they didn't want to do the work and threw out some crazy number thinking I was an idiot and not an architect. I won't be calling them in the future.

MR. COOK WAS NEVER ON TIME FOR APPOINTMENTS WITH US, AND FREQUENTLY WAS A "NO CALL/NO SHOW". HE SPOKE VERY ANGRILY WITH MY WIFE IN FRONT OF ME WHEN WE INFORMED HIM THAT WE WISHED TO CANCEL THE JOB. HE THEN PHONED ME A DAY LATER, AND APOLOGIZED FOR BEHAVING SO BADLY TOWAARDS MY WIFE, AND BLAMED IT ON HAVING A "BAD DAY". HE HAS BEEN PROMISING US FOR 5 WEEKS THAT HE WOULD REIMBURSE US. HE PROMISED ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THAT HE WOULD PERSONALLY DELIVER THE CHECK TO OUR HOME AT A PARTICULAR TIME AND DATE, AND THEN WOULD FAIL TO SHOW. NOT ONLY WOULD HE NOT CALL TO EXPLAIN HIS "NO SHOW", HE WOULD NOT ANSWER HIS OFFICE/HOME PHONE OR CELL PHONE WHEN WE WOULD CALL TO REQUEST OUR CHECK, NOR WOULD HE RETURN OUR CALLS. MR. COOK HAD A MORAL OBLIGATION NOT TO SPEND MONEY THAT HE HAD NOT EARNED.
Description of Work: WE PAID BLAKE COOK, OWNER/OPERATOR OF COOK MASONRY, $6,800.00 IN FULL TO REMOVE OUR EXISTING BASEMENT WALL ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF OUR HOME THAT WAS LEANING IN, AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE. WHEN WE REALIZED THAT TO DO THIS, WE WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE TOO MUCH OF THE BASEMENT DRYWALL IN OUR FINISHED BASEMENT, WE DECIDED NOT TO HAVE THE WORK PERFORMED IN THAT WAY. THE ONLY THING THAT MR. COOK HAD DONE WAS TO HAVE A PALLET OF CEMENT &/OR SAND DELIVERED FROM LOWE'S. WHEN WE INFORMED HIM THAT WE WANTED TO CANCEL THE JOB, HE PROMISED THAT HE WOULD PAY US 1/2 OF THE MONEY THE LAST WEEK OF JULY, & THE REMAINDER OF THE MONEY THE 1ST WEEK OF AUGUST. WITHOUT CALLING US, HE SENT OVER 7 OR 8 WORKERS TO RETRIEVE THE CEMENT &/OR SAND. DURING THAT SAME EVENING 4 - 5 GAL. GAS CANS FULL OF GAS DISAPPEARED FROM OUR PROPERTY. MR. COOK AGREED TO REPLACE THAT AS WELL. AS OF TODAY, 8/31/2006, WE HAVE ONLY RECEIVED A CHECK FOR $500. WE WANT OUR MONEY AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR GAS & CANS.

We waited for a year for them to excavate the area of the project. When they finally said they were ready to proceed, we ordered materials and had everything shipped to their job. After all this and numerous visits to their home to discuss the project, they suddenly changed their mind leaving us with all the materials purchased on their job. Not to mention the time slot we set aside for them. Blake Cook-Owner

The company responded promptly to our request for an estimate. Chase came out to look at the site. He was polite and offered some suggestions. However he only took a few photographs and paced out the area. He did not take exact measurements of the site, and the resulting estimate included concrete for a larger area than all other estimates for this job. Also, it took a full week and a phone call to get a copy of the actual estimate. We decided to go with another company.

Cook came out to give me an estimate. The young man did not go up on the roof, but took pictures from the ground. This is a two-story house and the chimney cap is at least 30 feet above where he was standing. He promised an estimate by fax the next day, but when I didn't receive it, I called and was promised it would come the following day. It didn't in fact, it was a full week later before I got their estimate of $650. Meanwhile, another company came out to provide an estimate and they fixed the problem on the spot at NO CHARGE. $650 from Cook versus NO charge. I would be very wary of using Cook.

Stopped by Cook Masonary to request estimate on chimney repair. I live very close to their office so an estimator followed me to my home and gave the estimate immediately. He started with an unusually high estimate and continued to come down on his price. I feel they may do quality work but did not choose Cook Masonary because I did not get a reasonable estimate immediately. Of course with each drop in price he tried to justify why he could drop his price. I feel a direct approach in estimating a price would have given me more confidence in using this company.

The workers were very polite and cleaned up after the job. Extremely poor customer service. (They were Angie's List 2004 Customer Service Award winner.) Wonder why pricing for extra work was so much higher than other vendors.
Description of Work: Cook Masonry was to repair 2 chimneys and rebuild my firebox. They wouldn't provide a start date. I got an e-mail stating they were going to stop by to see what they needed to do the job. That same day, there were 3 workers at my home. They had no idea they were to work on the second chimney. Before they left, they asked to come inside to see what they needed to do the firebox the NEXT DAY! No one had contacted me to arrange for me to be home to let the workers inside. I spoke with the owner the next day and made arrangements to meet him at my home between 12:30/1pm. He never showed or called. After I left a msg with the office, I got a call and made arrangements to meet him between 5/5:30pm. Again, never showed or called. It wasn't until I contacted them that they spoke w/me again. Another worker met w/me and apologized. He was to give me a bid on further work. Took almost 2 weeks to get that. I found another vendor would do the same work for $150 less.
