BNG Heating & Cooling

Our unit was actually a little small for the house and it finally died at the beginning of the summer. A technician came out, offered an honest appraisal of the situation and offered us several options. We chose to replace the whole thing since we were having ongoing problems. The price was decent, and the work was done quickly and professionally.

BNG did an outstanding job. They stayed until everything was right. They followed up to make sure things were working like they should. Install was very professional and well done. They sent a great team that worked hard to get everything done in one day.

Timeline of Events August 2013: We decided to put on an addition to a home that we had recently purchased. As part of the construction, the HVAC was subcontracted with Schindler Heating and Air Conditioning Inc to install a Bryant Air Conditioner/Heat Pump and Air Handler. The price for the subcontract with Schindler was $5,500. November/December 2013: Unit Installed with 5 year Bryant Warranty Later Winter/Early Spring 2014: Called Scott Schindler because unit wasn’t working well. He came out the same day and confirmed that there was no coolant in the unit. He assumed that it was shipped without coolant and recharged the unit. No Charge Around this time Scott Schindler sold his business to Bloomington Natural Gas (BNG). Scott remains an employee of BNG. August 5, 2014: BNG is called for service call because of leaky water pump which Schindler had installed. Was given a new pump but was charged for labor despite the fact that the pump when bad because it was installed incorrectly. Charge of $135. I believe that coolant was also added at this time demonstrating the presence of an ongoing problem. May 2015. A technician from BNG came out because all of the coolant had been lost from the unit. He spent most of the day here and said he finally found the problem. He fixed it and recharged the unit No charge. December 31, 2015. BNG was called out for another call. At this point, it was clear that there was a defect that was causing a persistent loss of coolant. January 28, 2016: BNG’s service supervisor Fred came out to investigate. Over a series of visit, he determine that the fault must lie in the line set that Schindler installed. He assumes it was damaged in construction but since it took so long to identify the source of the problem, I was unable to go back to the builder. I believe there were a couple of other service calls prior to this time, but I don’t have the receipts to document them. Regardless to say, it was an ongoing nuisance and a source of tremendous trouble and time off work. February 3, 2016: Scott Schindler as an employee of BNG came out to install a new line set. The new line set runs outside the wall of the house (instead of through the wall) thus making it unsightly. I was assured that this fix would solve the leakage problems. February 18, 2016: Paid BNG $680 for installation of new line set. I was told that I was charged at cost. November 22, 2017: Jack Frost was called to service the unit. I was told that it was out of coolant. November 22, 24, or 27, 2017: Called BNG to see if there was any willingness to provide restitution for work that was done but did not solve the problem. I spoke with Carla who checked with the owners and was told that they weren’t willing to assist further without compensation because a) When they purchase Schindler Heating and Air, they purchased the customer base without taking on any liability and thus were not responsible for any past work. b) Have no responsibility for the line set because it was over 1 year since installation. This was despite the fact that it didn’t fix the root problem.

Gas smell outside. Bng sent two young men. They couldn't smell. Odor. Old house found no appliance shut off. Came out said the odor not gas. Red tagged and shut off service even if odor not gas. They were not equipped with gas sensor. Told lady with limited income no service (stove, water heater!) until she had shut offs installed. Big issue why did BNG not use detector to confirm gas presence before they left her w/o service or why didn't they send someone qualified.

Technician assessed the problem as a clogged pipe, but recommended the unit should be replaced within another year as it was near end of it's useful life.

The tech called ahead to inform he was on his way at the scheduled time. When he arrived, he checked the indoor coil and observed it was covered in ice and concluded that the system was probably low in refrigerant, which caused the coil to freeze up and clog the drain. After thawing out the coil and adding more R-22 refrigerant, the system was functioning perfectly.

Great. Showed up on time and finished in one day except for humidifier - Had to order and was installed the following week. The crew was very respectful, answered my questions and cleaned up perfect before leaving.

This is the worst experience with a service call I've ever had. The guy came out in a bad mood and immediately started telling us about all the classes he's taken... then tells us after looking at the unit about two seconds (we already had the control panel off) that it was the capacitor. Then that he could sell us the piece for $150. A capacitor for our unit runs $14.95 all day online, but you cannot buy one locally without being a contractor. That's a 900%increase in price.... never will I do business with BNG Heating again.

Very professional and always do a great job! I feel very good about my heating and air system being in their hands! BNG does the clean and check in the spring and the fall on my air conditioner and furnace. They make sure I stay up and running and functioning efficiently. When I did have a problem with my A/C last year, they kept the unit charged and my house cool while they built a special part. The guys are always nice, friendly and simply get the job done!

THE 1ST EMPLOYEE TO COME OUT WASN'T THE MOST PLEASANT, FRED COOK. HE TOLD ME MY A FRAME ELECTRIC COIL COULD BE TAKEN OUT & CLEANED FOR AROUND $800.00, I THEN ASKED WHAT WOULD A NEW ONE COST, HE RESPONDED AROUND $800.00, DUH? HE SAID HE WOULD ORDER THE PART. I PHONED THE OFFICE & ASKED THEY NOT SEND FRED BACK OUT. THE SECOND FELLOW WAS PLEASANT, BUT TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A WHOLE NEW UNIT? I REMAIN CONFUSED TO THIS DAY.

They were late for the initial meeting, and according to the service rep, he had been running an hour behind all day, so a quick call to me would have allowed me to rearrange my schedule so that would not have had to drive back and forth from my house to work more than once. However, once we met up, I was very happy with how I was treated and the explanation that they gave for the how the work would be done. I would definitely give them a shot at any type of HVAC work.

Timely estimate, friendly. Installed promptly. Installation person nice, friendly, work done within time.

The service man was very polite he explained what he was doing he was here right at 8:00 am like they told us he would be he did his job and cleaned any mess and left, This is a business where these services where being done and he was prompt and made sure he did not interrupt any of our daily work.

1st a tech named Fred Cook came out, with an attitude. I had a coupon he refused to take, however in the past there was no problem with the coupons from Angies's List. I just let it go. Fred told me he needed to remove the A frame coil unit, take it outdoors & clean it. I asked him how much that would be, he stated around $800.00. Next I asked him how much a "new" one would cost, he stated around $800.00, Duh??? I chose the 2nd option of course. He wrote the part # down as he stated he would have to order it & left. Since he was a smart_ss from the get go, I phoned the office & asked them not to send him out to my home anymore, they were very nice & agreed. The next gentleman who came out was very nice & professional, he inspected the a/c unit & stated he would give me three (3) estimates, one for the A coil cleaning, one for a new A coil unit & lastly one for a whole new unit. He sent the estimate via email, but only one & that was for a whole new unit, no estimate for a new A coil or cleaning. I have had very good service & communication with this company in the past, so not certain if they are losing very good, professional techs they used to have or what. I was very hurt by a company I truly trusted in totally & sincerely hope they can re-build the great, honest tech staff they once had.

Tyler was on time, very friendly, and knowledgeable. He seemed very honest about my A/C unit's issues and was not pushy or manipulative.

Jimmy Smith introduced himself, went over what he would be doing, gave me folder of information & reviewed contents w / me. Did all of above, took shoes off when entering our home - friendly and polite. Correct filter size not speedily available - will bring tomorrow (Fri). He contractor me FX to say it would be wonder. New filter installed would.

Jimmy called in advance to confirm appt, arrived on time, performed scheduled maintenance then explained services & provided input to help me solve issues with gas fireplace & air circulation. He provided info on BNG services & help arrange follow up.

Tyler was on time, courteous, and professional, he explained, in detail, what he and his co-worker (cody) did he recommended a surge protector but wasn’t pushy about it.

Excellent! They were easy to communicate with, professional, friendly and not only did they do a great job they were very neat and clean about it.

Runs great, but while he was taking the blower out he found mold inside furnace unit and sprayed something on it. He was supposed to go back in and wipe the sprayed on stuff off but did not and we smelled it for almost a week and got a little sick from it. The new blower cost us approximately $200 which I think was on the expensive side. The guy was very personable and easy to talk to but when you don't plan for paying out that much money it kind of hurts the pocketbook. I went online and found the blower for around $69 dollars so I guess the extra $131 was for labor paid for taking it out and putting the new one in which didn't take that long. Waited almost an hour for the new one to get here so I'm guessing we paid for the wait time too.
