poor customer service. not knowledgeable about the product. not responsive and over priced. I called RAS to replace the heating element in my Samsung dryer. When the techs came to my home it took them a good 15 minutes to confirm what I had already told them. They then went back out to their car for about 10 minutes and quoted me $629.48 for the diagnoses, parts and labor. I obviously declined service. She then told me that the part was hard to find because of the brand and recommended that I buy a new dryer from a different manufacturer. She still charged me $114.00 for the diagnoses. After RAS left, I contacted KLB Appliances who already had the part, came out the following morning, completed the repair in under 45 minutes, and charged me less than half of what RAS attempted to charge me. I reached out to RAS to give them a chance to right their wrong (I wanted my $114 back), but received no response. I consider RAS a scam and would not recommend them to anyone!!
Description of Work: I needed the heating element replaced on my Samsung Dryer.

He was nice enough but didn't even open the top of the unit which would have showed the $15 part that broke immediately. And his rate was very high. $30 higher than anyone else in the area. He spent 20 min talking about how he couldn't tell if it was going to be repairable without turning on the water then left with his $105, saying we probably needed a new machine because it was probably the driveshaft.
Description of Work: The gentleman came to our house, spun the drum of the front-load washer, looked in the back of the machine and said if he couldn't run the water into it, he couldn't check if it worked or not. (We unplugged the machine because when it broke, water filled up the inside of the machine and flooded our laundry room and then our basement ceiling!). He told us we needed a new machine - this one is 2.5 years old and cost $1000. He charged us $105 and left. The next morning, we had a Sears service man come out and he OPENED THE TOP OF THE MACHINE...and discovered the problem immediately. A spring holder had broken and caused the drum to drop on one side and dislodge the hoses. It was covered under warranty and cost us nothing.

They did fix it pretty quickly and it was a fairly simple repair. $90 included the service call and repair cost. They did a good job. He didn’t try to make it a bigger repair than probably it was. It had to do with some kind of a switch, he looked through the materials, and he had it because I imagine there are lots of dishwashers and lots of models and he looked through the materials to fix it. I think it was just a small part and of course the time in diagnosing the problem. For me, it was reasonable.

He was on time. He noted it would be $75 just to look at the machine and then he found the problem, which took literally 2 minutes. The water pump was clogged with debris. I had taken the back panel off the machine, which he noted was unnecessary. He said. To replace the pump and put the panel on, which would be too difficult, would cost $200 for the labor. Together with the part cost, which new online for $10(his price $79.95), and the diagnosis fee, would be a total close to $350. I told him a new machine could be bought for $500. He did not seem to care. I chose to pay for the part and pay $160 and put the pump on myself. It's was easy to do, but I did have a h*** of a time getting the back panel on. If you have never disassembled a washer before, please youtube it first. I think it probably would have only taken him about 5 minutes to get it on, am upset that he would try to milk me. My washer is working for the time being, but. I would suggest finding someone who not only has experience, but also cares about a fair price and reputation.

I called Robinson Appliance Service because the "Element Light On" on the front of the electric stove stayed on even though the burners were turned off. The repairman (Mr. Robinson, I think) showed up on a motorcycle, wearing a tee-shirt, cut-off jeans, tennis shoes, and wearing a baseball cap. He removed the back of the stove and started pulling wires off the contacts of the burner controls to determine which switch might be causing the light to stay on. He informed me that something was bad on one control and he would would have to order another part and he would call to determine the cost of the part if I wanted him to so so. I said No! He then noticed the light on the front of the panel had gone off; and turned each of the burner controls on the front of the stove on and off and the "Element Light On" on the front of the stove responded correctly. The repairman then said "well . . . it looks like it is working OK now. He replaced the back of the stove and gave me the bill for the $75 Service Charge and left. My impression of the repairman (Mr. Robinson) was one of complete unprofessionalism and one of him being too quick to make a decision as to the real problem with the stove. He probably has a great deal of experience with appliances but that was not demonstrated when he tried to resolve my problem. I will not use his services again or recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Had a problem with a kitchen stove and wanted the problem corrected.

I called Robinson because of the Christian symbols associated with his Yellow Pages add. I prefer to use local businessmen, as well. Mr. Robinson arrived on time, and after hearing my concerns, started the washer empty to run it through the cycle. After listening to it cycle with no trouble, he added clothes to give it some weight. While in the spin cycle, he was able to diagnose the problem as the inner tub beating against the outer tub, an indication of bearings wearing out. He explained how the tub itself was manufactured and that it would cost at least $500 to buy a new part and have it installed. He told me that the stablizers were just fine and that I could continue to use the washer but that I needed to wash in smaller loads. He also warned me that eventually the imbalance would cause the front seal to break and that I needed to keep an eye on it in order to prevent a future flood. He also suggested a comparable washer I could purchase (but not from him) that would be much more cost effective to repair. He had told me before coming that the service call would be $85 plus parts and labor, so I was expecting the $100 he charged.
Description of Work: He took off the front panel of my Whirlpool frontloader washer and watched it as it went through the cycle. He closed it back up and told me how much it would cost to repair it. He also explained why it was unreasonable to repair the washer.

The initial phone call was okay, although they only took my phone number (not my name or exact address) and said they would call the next day and could get to me in the afternoon of the next day (no appointment time given, though). I was a little leery of this, so I called another company listed for appliance repair on Angie's List and they had comparable prices and could get to me tomorrow morning with a specific appointment time (they also took my name, appliance model number, address, etc.). When I called Robinson's back to explain that I would not need them to call me tomorrow afternoon (a courtesy, I thought), as I was able to get another company to come out tomorrow morning at a specific time, the gentleman HUNG UP ON ME! While I know it was probably a disappointment that I was not going to use them, I did call so not to waste their time and/or give them a chance to provide me with a sooner appointment. I don't think there is any room for hanging up on someone in customer service.
Description of Work: No service was performed. I had called to get an initial estimate and set up an appointment to have my dishwasher and icemaker serviced.

I found the company on Angie's List. Called them yesterday (7/6) and described the problem with the refrigerator. He said he could be here the next day (7/7) between 10 AM and 1 PM, and would call first. The gentleman did call to get directions and arrived at about 11 AM. He said he has had years of experience with my brand of refrigerator and the leakage problem was not unusual. I emptied the freezer, he took out the various panels, chipped away the ice, unplugged the drainage holes, put it all back together, and I paid him.
Description of Work: My refrigerator had a water leak, with water running into the bottom of the refrigerator. The gentleman from Robinson knew exactly what the problem was (the drains were plugged up) and he fixed it easily, although he had to take apart the freezer compartment.

I left a phone message and heard nothing back that day, which made me apprehensive. Next morning, I got a call and and the serviceman arrived about an hour later. He fixed my problem which was minor but he was very informative about my dryer and things to keep an eye out for in the future.

Called and explained the problem. The shop gave me a time estimate and told me there would be a service charge and gave me the starting cost. He showed up on time, had the part on hand and fixed the problem. He was even up front and said there might be other problems that caused the part to fail and I would know in a couple of days. Luckily there were no other problems and it is still working.

I noticed that the refrigerator had water on the top shelves and under the drawers. I picked Robinson's company at random and called for service. He wanted to come right away which wouldn't work for me so we scheduled an appt 2 days later. When he arrived he knew right away what the problem was because he said that model of refrigerator is known for freezing up. He didn't seem to mind that I watched the whole process. He recommended that I purchase an inexpensive freezer thermometer at the grocery store to make sure that the temp didn't fall below 0 degrees which should help alleviate the problem in the future. I now think I could do the repair myself if the problem occured again. Maybe.
Description of Work: My refrigerator had water leaking into it and the serviceman took the floor and back of the freezer compartment off, defrosted the built up ice, and unclogged the drain.
