We grow our own stock on 120 acres, sell it through the garden center or wholesale department. We offer delivery or installation services. Custom designing for commercial or residential. We offer customized services to keep your newly or existing landscaping looking great. We offer tree and shrub removal service, and hardscape installation.
The top of the tree died in 2017 and the staff responsible for planting it, stated that the likely cause was due to him attempting to straighten the tree after it was planted crooked. This staff member left Abell and even though the owner disagreed with the cause he stood behind the statement and agreed to replace the tree. He did not argue, just assured us that we wanted us to be satisfied. When someone you hire acts professional and service oriented it is a pleasure doing business with them and so we recommend them to others. Be sure you understand what the guarantee means. Abell was more than generous with us in this case since it is likely that the original tree may survive and grow a new top.
Description of Work: In November of 2016 we had Abell plant a spruce tree.

So far, great! The work is not done and they are coming back on Monday.
Description of Work: Landscaping and planning garden beds, walking path on side of house. Trish came and worked alone several days. She was awesome and very motivated. This last time she had a young man with her who was very good also! They are finishing landscaping with the fabric and cedar chips which is going to continue around the side of the house. Planting several trees last month and some plants last week that are doing well except for the ones that the deer like to munch on. I am going to get some spray someone recommended to me, to hopefully prevent them doing some much damage, and keep me from buying ugly cages....

Our experience began on an positive note with the owner Rob's assistance. We walked though the merchandise and he listened to our needs. With our agreement, he wrote a list of specimens we talked about. That was very helpful. We went back to the store when we were ready to purchase. The employee, Kay , was very helpful in picking the plants. Kay was always very helpful and supportive throughout the whole experience. We paid approximately 50% down. We worked with Kyle for scheduling the delivery and planting. The delivery and planting was rescheduled a total of 3 times. The second time was actually a no show, on a Saturday when we had cleared our schedule. No word from them and they never responded to our phone calls. The third rescheduled date did happen, and that's when they did the planting. Later we received an invoice with an additional $24.50 fee. I called and found out it was for an elective labor but it had never been stated to us that it would be an additional charge. The next day we called, and talked to Rob the owner. I brought up my point as a customer, that I was never informed about this additional fee, but I felt my point was over looked. The conversation with Rob included him stating how many crews he has, how highly rated his business is, how they almost never have negative reports. It ended with him saying they do have to charge for work done. I felt no support for the point I was trying to make as a customer, as I was never given an option for this additional service and fee. I will pay the extra money, but plan on not making mistake again. I will research alternate landscaping resources.
Description of Work: We wanted 2-3 trees and a couple of shrubs to plant in our yard.

They were just very honest people and did a good job. I think there were 2 workers.
Description of Work: They planted 10 Fire bushes. Then a company that I don’t recommend planted 2 trees for us, so they helped fix the trees that they planted, because they had not planted them properly.

Description of Work: Have purchased nursery items, some installed by Abell Nursery, often over past years. Staff friendly and helpful. Selection varies depending on season and what is available. Planting of trees and shrubs adequate; but, preparation of the item and soil somewhat limited; could do better. Staff less informed about items than some competing nursery suppliers. Pricing generally competitive; but, again varies.

Description of Work: Nothing! Would not return my call after I left a detailed message of the landscaping that I wanted and my budget of $6000.00. I felt they should have at least called to let me know they were not interested. No professionalism from this company!!!

Abell was professional and showed up on time. There was only one complaint. There is a problem with the mulch. This is actually the second year in a row that we have had issues with the mulch from Abell Nursery. Almost every day we are getting new patches of mold in the mulch and it looks terrible. We have used them for several years in the past and last year and this year is the only time that we have had this issues. We called Abell to let them know about the mold, and they told us to mix a mild solution of bleach and water, and spray that on the mold overnight. Then in the morning it is supposed to be gone. It has helped, but there are new areas to treat every day. We were pleased with everything that they did except for the quality of the mulch.
Description of Work: We hired Abell Nursery to do our spring clean up, replace two dead plants and put down fresh mulch.

Oh man--I told the whole story from start to finish in the question above. I can't think of anything more to say!
Description of Work: I am a widower, and things have gone downhill in the yard and garden since my wife was hospitalized and died. I wanted to beautify, and psychologically take ownership, of my property. The landscaper surveyed my yard and drew up a plan for beautifying it. Very thoughtfully, he mapped out a plan that had four zoning areas, with the cost of each zone computed in his estimate. Since I don't know how much longer I will live, I told them to put the whole thing in at once. They did it within two days, planting 30 shrubs, bushes, plants, and trees; installing a very handsome set of lamps (one shining on a new tree) that are set on a timer when to go on and off; removing the flagstones from a large patio, pitching the ones that had broken into find pieces, and rebuilding the patio. The results were stunning. Looking at the plan before they started, I didn't have any idea how much a $4K investment could do for the home's beauty. I have two quarrels with Abell, while at the same time I'm so very satisfied with the high-quality and conscientious and friendly people with whom I dealt, from beginning to end (at any time I can call and Dan will drop on by within 24 hours) to answer questions or resolve problems. Point !: I had always loved deer, and our back yard is surrounded by woods. I would see 5-8 deer trotting on through the yard many times a week and be thrilled by my proximity to nature. But they are now sworn enemies!! I'm wondering why the landscaper planned about 3-4 different kinds of plants that deer really go after. Second problem: the workers did not have sufficient flagstones to build the patio out the way that the planner had laid it out, so they asked me if they could take up the flagstones running around the side of the house, where we rarely walk, in order to complete the job--saying that that type of flagstone could not be replaced. Now that the walk is gone, I miss it! I love my "new" back patio, but I'm missing the walk around the side of the house.

We were very pleased with their service and the plants look great. They replaced the plant that died.
Description of Work: They came out to the house, measured and discussed our ideas, and then later provided an estimate and a plan for area we were interested in landscaping. A week or so later we were able to go by and pick up the estimate for the landscaping, divided into different sections. On the phone we discussed the plants and any changes, and then we took the drawn plan to Abell's, picked out the plants were wanted, and submitted any changes to the plan. They were exceptionally helpful in picking out plants, making suggestions, and telling us upfront how much everything cost. A work date was set for three weeks in advance. A crew came out, removed existing plants (set aside the ones that were alive and could be replanted), planted new plants, and put down weed cover and mulch. It took less than 4 hours with their crew to do what would have taken us days. Later, after a plant had died, they replaced it under the warranty.

When I first called in fall 2009, they said they would not come out and even look unless I paid $50 up front. In April 2010, I called again and they sent someone out free. The man that came out was very insulting. He questioned whether I had the money to pay for it. He made it sound like it I didn't know how much it would cost. He was rude and short. When he sent the quote, he had a very primitive drawing and a total. Nothing itemized or broken down as to what would be needed.

I contacted Abell Nursery in September '09 to have a landscape master plan designed. Rob Abell walked around my yard with me and we discussed what I would like to see and what would work well where. He was very professional and took into account my preferences (flower color, amount of care needed, etc.) when he designed the plan. (I left much of the plant choice up to him -- part of the reason the landscape REALLY needed a pro is that I had been choosing the wrong plants for the light conditions!) About two weeks later, I received a detailed drawing as well as price estimates for each separate project in case I chose not to have them put the entire plan into place. The estimates were good for a year, which was wonderful, as I wound up not moving forward for 6 months! Once I contacted Rob to set things in motion, he met with me again to nail down a few last details (e.g. color choices of a few of the plants). Shortly afterward, I was contacted by Dan to schedule a date about two weeks out for them to start. They finished the job in fewer than three days (would have been even less but for the rain one day), which included taking out a considerable amount of plants and debris, cutting down a pine tree, cutting in four brand new beds and edging two other pre-existing beds, putting down landscape fabric, planting, mulching, and putting in stepping stones in two locations. They also trimmed up several (very overgrown!) yews that we chose to keep. (The nursery had also handled getting the line locates done for all the utilities before they came out.) The entire crew was very friendly and professional, and they did an excellent job. I spoke with Dan several times during the process; he made sure everything was to my liking and that small changes in the plan were okay (e.g., shifting a plant from one side of the A/C unit to the other). After they finished planting and mulching, he talked with me for a while to make sure I understood how to care for the plants -- when to water, when to trim, etc. He answered all of my questions and really made me feel comfortable with everything they had done. It's been a couple of weeks and I still go out every day and wander around the yard marveling at how wonderful everything looks for the first time in many years. (And it's so good to know that all my spring chores are already done!) I am so pleased with the quality of the job, with the plants themselves, and with the service! I would recommend Abell Nursery to anyone looking to have their yard landscaped. (As a final note, if you like instant gratification, spring is a great time of year to redo your yard! Everything is budding out and/or blooming already.)
Description of Work: Abell Nursery designed a landscape plan for my yard and then created and planted the beds.
