Description of Work: Adam and his crew showed up on time and performed a full tear off of the old roof removing an old fireplace stack and repairing the hole. They replaced the old down spouts with new and then cleaned up all the small debris. All done in one day on a large 2-story home. We would definitely hire them again.

Description of Work: We hired Jent to perform some remodeling work to our basement and garage, including redoing a bath, moving a wall, minor electrical and drywall. The project started fine, the garage work went quick and was satisfactory. The detail work and the tiling went completely south. We ended up having to do the finish work ourselves. A quick 2-3 week job took 10 weeks and was never actually completed. While Jent did make efforts to adjust price and correct their failures, in the end we agreed to part ways. Major issues - poor subcontractors, especially tiling, lack of follow through and leadership. Our principal contact here in Cincinnati was a perfectly nice guy, but he was not forthright and made lots of excuses. The electrician was pretty good. The carpentry work was average at best. While we resolved our differences and I appreciate the sales guy stepping up to make good economically, I can not in good conscience recommend this company.

He was great. It was definitely reasonable and cheap. He was able to do it very cost-effectively. He came in quickly and fixed it the same day. He recommended that I didn't need to do anything as far as the inside of the house is concerned, he didn't see it as a problem.

The drywall patch was repaired by replacing the drywall. The porch post was stablized to prevent sporadic lifting, thus causing issues with the gutters. The repairs were completed, but the drywall crack reappeared early in September. In addition, the porch post dropped. We immediately contacted Jent in early September 2013, and are still waiting for the company to return to resolve these issues. Jent has returned phone calls but the repairs are still outstanding. I am concerned the weather won't be cooperating if we wait much longer. The contractor returned and has resolved the issues. The workmen were very professional and easy to work with. .

Initially I was very pleased with all the work performed on my house. The workers didn't mess around and the job was completed in good time. The house looked like new when the job was complete. That is the reason I am giving Jent A's on my review. However, a year or so after the job was complete, I noticed a small leak in a bedroom closet. As it turned out, the gutter guards were never put in place, leaves clogged the gutter and caused the leak. When I notified Adam Jent about the problem, he came right out and promised to fix the problem...which recently has been done. Note: I found it easier to communicate with him by email rather than telephone.
Description of Work: Jent replaced my roof, gutters, soffits and downspouts; also power washed my brick home and trimmed tree branches overhanging the roof. I used this company on recommendation from my neighbor.
Jent Construction as of this review date (12/6/12) has rehabbed 6 homes for me, 5 in Cincinnati and 1 in Indianapolis, and they have more of my business to come. They are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. They do very good work and always stay on budget, even if it means Jent Construction has to give up their profits. I know Adam Jent must have lost money on a few of my projects but because he is such a great guy, he wanted to stick to his original bid and would not let me pay him more. Bottom line if you are looking for a reliable, competent, and honest contractor, Jent Construction is your best option.
Description of Work: Jent Construction is a excellent company. The owner Adam Jent is a great guy that is very honest and helpful. I have been using Jent Construction to rehab homes for a few months and I will continue to use them. His attention to detail and the quality of his work is awesome. He has done everything you can imagen on my homes from painting the exterior to re-plumbing all of the stolen copper in the basement. He has a great team of real nice guys that are very respectful and always on time.

I signed a contract on 7/22/10. The job was scheduled to start on Monday, 9/20, and was expected to be finished by 9/24. I called Dave Walpole (business card title is Sales Manager) the week before to inquire about the tile choices. I left a message on his voicemail. I left another message. When I did not get a reply I called the office. I was told that Dave was sick, and that no one had heard from him. On Monday (9/20) Dave called and apologized, and said that the work would start on 9/22. On that day I came home to find a dumpster in my driveway. On Thursday morning I got a call from Adam (the owner of the company) at 8:30am ? he wanted to know what color shingles I wanted on the roof. I said that I had discussed it with Dave, and it is on the work order. He replied that Dave was still sick, and the crew did not have a copy of the work order. I came home on my lunch hour to see how things were going. I asked the supervisor if the crew needed access to the attic. He looked at me with a puzzled expression. I explained that part of the job was to install a powered fan in the attic. He said that they didn?t know anything about a fan, and one had not been delivered to the house. I called Adam, and he assured me that it would get done. On Friday I returned home from work to find that the roof was finished, but the dumpster was still in the driveway ? along with six packages of shingles that I had to move in order to get the car into the garage. The interior work started on Monday (9/27). I left several messages for Dave before I got a call back. The plan was for the closet repair, the plaster work in the bedroom, and the demolition in the bathroom to be done that day. Dave agreed to bring the tile samples to my house after 6:00pm. When I got home from work Dave showed me the work that had been done. Two walls in the guest room had been painted. Despite my suggestion that they primer coat the walls, they had used up all the paint that I had supplied putting two coats on half of the room. Dave ?hoped? that he could get the paint matched. When I got home from work on Tuesday (9/28) the tile installer was still working. It seems that there was a mix up at the store and a box of the wrong tile had been purchased. The wrong box was the first opened, so he had laid the wrong tile, opened the next box, and had to tear down all the work he had done. Because of this delay, he was behind schedule ? he really wanted to finish the tile do that he could do the grout on Wednesday. He did not finish until after 10:00pm. After he left I got a chance to look at the work. The bathroom ceiling had been replaced with drywall, and painted. The job was very sloppy and there was drywall mud and paint dripped down the walls. On Wednesday (9/29) the grout was put on the tile. The shower plumbing fixtures were not replaced, and there was no shower curtain. (I had purchased a new curtain rod for this remodel.) I phoned Dave and asked when I could expect the rod to be installed, as well as the attic fan, and any other finishing touches. He told me that he would be at my house ?first thing? on Thursday morning. I left my alarm system turned off when I left for work the next morning. When I called during the day to ask how things were going, I got his voicemail. After three messages, I called the office. I was told that they had no idea where Dave was, and they would try to reach him. Dave called me back at 7:20pm and explained that he had overslept, and then went to another job. He promised that he would finish my work on Friday. So I left the alarm system disarmed again on Friday. When I returned from work that day there was a note from Dave explaining that he had installed a temporary tension-style shower curtain rod, and that he agreed that the drips on the walls were unacceptable. He wrote that he would call me that evening or during the day on Saturday. Dave did not call. On Monday (10/4) I left a message on his voicemail again. He phoned back on Tuesday (10/5) and explained that he had gone to Florida over the weekend. I explained that I had a trip out of town starting on Thursday (10/7) and the alarm system would be on while I was gone. He promised that he would be over to finish the work on Wednesday (10/6). So I went to work with the alarm turned off again. And returned from work to find that no one had been there. (The alarm system is important to me ? twice there have been attempted break-ins. I dislike leaving the alarm off.) I left on my trip on Thursday, and put a note on the front door warning that the alarm was armed. Dave sent me a text message on Thursday, and left me a voicemail on Friday, apologizing for not showing up. He did not give a reason for his absence ? just said that he was sorry and that I should call him when I was back at home. When I called him on Monday (10/11) he promised that he would personally finish the work, and it would be complete in one day. On Thursday (10/14) he phoned at 8:30am to say that he was on his way. At 12:20pm he called me at work to ask ?If you really want? the attic ventilation fan. He explained that there were vents in the attic, and that should be adequate. I reminded him that I had contracted for an attic fan. He pointed out that the roofing crew hadn?t installed it as he had expected ? he had arrived that day thinking that all he had to do was hook it up to the electrical system. My reaction was that if the job had been properly supervised this wouldn?t have happened. When I arrived home that evening I found that the shower curtain rod had been installed, but my shower curtain was gone. Dave had assumed that it was the temporary one that he had purchased, and took it with him. In fact I disliked the temporary curtain and had hung mine up. Also, the ?clean up? was still not acceptable. I found two drywall mud drips still on the walls, and loose nails on the floor. I left Dave a voicemail, informing him of the shower curtain mix-up. Dave called me on Friday (10/15) and left me a voicemail, saying that he would drop off my curtain on his way home from work. He also asked if I would be leaving a check for the balance due on the contract. I left him a voicemail stating that I wanted an itemized invoice. His next voicemail said that he thought the balance was around $1,600.00 and that would be the end of the transaction. When I got home late that evening the curtain was not there. I purchased a new curtain on Saturday because I decided that waiting for Dave was pointless. I received the invoice in the mail on Saturday (10/16). I was shocked to see that the total was $3,032.00 with additional charges. I compared this to my original contract. The ?Upgrade on shingles? should not have been a separate line. The 30 year shingles were part of the original bid. And the powered attic fan, while added on, was never quoted. (Dave?s actual statement was ?A power vent is only $60 more than a regular one?. So I was surprised to see it listed on the invoice as $250.) Dave called me on Monday (10/18) to ask when I expected to mail the check. I pointed out the errors on the invoice and told him that I was considering my options. And that one of those options was court. We discussed it and he agreed that I would pay $2,362.00 - subtracting the extra items on the invoice and another 10% off on the bathroom work. (The bathroom work was scheduled to take three days. The tile was actually done on time. But it took more than two weeks for the faucets and shower curtain to be put back up.) He apologized again, saying that he is spread too thin, and doesn?t get enough support from the office. The answer to this problem would seem to be to accept fewer contracts and do them well. In the next week Dave called me three times to ask when I will mail the check. One of those calls was after 10:00pm. I did not appreciate being hounded when so many of my phone calls were ignored, and so many promises were broken. The information above was printed and sent with my check to Jent on November 1, 2010. I received a letter back from the owner of the company, accepting my payment and thanking me for the information. He said that he intended to use my experience as an opportunity to train his staff in better customer service. I had planned to post this to Angie?s List, but it kept being shuffled to the bottom of my to-do list. Which was lucky since the story wasn?t over. On Sunday, 3/20/11 I glanced up and noticed that there was a water stain on the new bathroom ceiling in the same area that the previous leak had damaged. I asked my boyfriend to go up in the attic to inspect it. It happened to be raining that day and he discovered water running down the exposed part of the chimney in the attic. He also found that the installation of the ventilation fan was not up to code. The splices were exposed and excess wire was lying in the attic insulation. The employee who came to fix the wiring claimed to be a certified electrician. Even he was appalled at the way the fan was installed. Since then the flashing on the other chimney leaked and damaged the guest room ceiling. I contacted Jent and they agreed to pay another roofer to fix it. When they said that this would void my warranty, my reply was "I don't care - no one from Jent is ever going up on my roof again." To be continued - this ordeal is not over yet. As of July 11, 2011 I am still waiting for the repair to the bedroom ceiling. I have little confidence that this will go well. The man who inspected this most recent damage admitted that his 'real' career is as a graphic designer. He got laid off and this is the only job he could find (Adam Jent is his brother-in-law).
Description of Work: The roof was to be completely replaced, a thermostatically-controlled ventilation fan installed, the bathroom and closet ceilings repaired (damaged by the roof leaks), the shower to be tiled, and the guest bedroom painted. This has been a nightmare. It has been an entire year, and isn't over yet. This company has demonstrated a level of incompetence that is absolutely stunning. Every transaction I have had with them required repeated phone calls, had poor communication, and resulted in shoddy workmanship.

As expressed to Member in an earlier correspondence we regret that her experience with us has not been a positive one and send our sincerest apologies. This unpleasant experience and complete dissatisfaction is not only something we are not proud of, but is new to us. We have never heard such detailed criticism from any customer. As any business would presumably do we are doing our best to turn this into a learning experience and make certain this never happens again! As a local, family owned and operated business we pride ourselves on honest and quality work. We have and will continue to right the wrongs that have happened between ourselves and Member due to the seeming lack of communication that caused this situation to snowball into such a major issue.
