Description of Work: Mike Spravka, owner of Plumages and a certified arborist designed our garden around our patio and was there the entire day the landscapers did the planting. He made sure the planting was done according to his design. During the design process Mike provided his initial design idea but then was very flexible with changes we had prior to planting. Mike also provided insights and guidance on how best to save on some of the cost by buying the plants on our own rather than having the landscaper buy all the plants. He provided suggestions as to which local garden shops/centers or even the big box Home Depot would have the best plants at a reasonable price. Mike is very professional and conscientious about ensuring the job was done right. We would use Mike again and would HIGHLY recommend Mike to others. Overall AWESOME experience and best decision we made to use Mike, i.e. Plumages.

Description of Work: Worked with me to develop a landscape design for a difficult area that frequently is wet and shady. Re-used plants that currently existed in other parts of the yard so that the cost could be contained.

+ -1 moreMike spent several hours drawing and answering my questions. The drawing was well done. I can understand everything on it. He was patient with our large dog and toddler. He called before his appointment time to say traffic was backed up and he would be late, which is always appreciated. I have recommended him to all my family members.
Description of Work: Mike drew a detailed map of existing and yet-to-be purchased plants and trees. He also advised us what trees and bushes needed attention and how to do it. He was able to give recommendations on where to buy mulch, plants, and stones, which we really needed.

+ -1 moreMike returned my call promptly and arrived when he said. He was absolutely outstanding and I can't recommend him highly enough. His credentials are extensive-he teaches at the Arboretum and helps certify arborists for the state. His help has been absolutely invaluable and I look forward to working with him again as we redesign other areas of our yard.
Description of Work: Mike came out to help identify and tell us how to care for the plants and trees in our yard. He spent over three hours here on a Sunday so that my husband could be with the kids. He was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He patiently explained everything and thoroughly answered all my questions. He even had his pruners out as we walked so he could demonstrate how to prune each plant. He also designed a perennial garden for us and although he does not do the work himself, he will come out when the garden is installed to properly "site" all the plants.

+ -1 moreExcellent from start to finish. Mike returned initial phone call promptly and followed up as promised. He ran 10 or 15 minutes late for the appointment--but called to let me know he was running late. He informed us that he teaches at the Morton Arboretum and he was extremely knowledgeable about plants that do well in our area. He was very attentive to our preferences and our budget. He provided a couple of names for purchasing plants and or having them installed, but only for our information. He's not affiliated with any suppliers or landscapers and there was no sales pitch.
Description of Work: Mike inspected some areas of our landscaping that need some new plantings, then made several sketches with suggested plants, trees and shrubs and how they should be arranged and spaced. The whole visit took about 60-90 minutes.

+ -1 moreMIKE'S APPROACH WAS TO FIRST GET ANY OF OUR OWN IDEAS FOR THE PLANNING OF THE LANDSCAPING AROUND THE HOUSE. HE THEN CAME UP WITH A NUMBER OF SUGGESTIONS THAT WE DISCUSSED AND FURTHER REFINED. FINALLY HE DREW UP A FINAL SERIES OF PLANS THAT SPECIFIED PLANTS/TREE, COMMON AND SCIENTIFIC NAMES AND OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THEM. MIKE THEN EXPLAINED HIS PLANS TO US IN DETAIL AND ANSWERED ANY QUESTIONS. MIKE ALSO OFFERED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR PLACEMENT AND PLANTING DURING IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PLAN AND TO PROVIDE ADVICE SHOULD A NURSERY OFFER OR SUGGEST SOMETHING NOT ON HIS PLAN. MIKE SPENT CLOSE TO 3 HOURS WITH US DURING HIS CONSULTATION. WE WERE EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH HIS PLANS AND THE ADVICE HE GAVE US, AND PLAN TO CONSULT WITH HIM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.
Description of Work: PLANNED AN ENTIRE LANDSCAPING AROUND HOUSE - FRONT AND BACKYARDS. FOCUS WAS ON NATURAL BARRIERS TO NEIGHBORS, BUTTERFLY/BIRD GARDEN IN BACK YARD AND TREE SELECTION AND GARDEN SURROUND FOR FRONT YARD.

WE HAD A FAIRLY QUICK CONSULTATION SO PERHAPS THIS IS WHERE I FIND THAT WE MAY HAVE NEEDED MORE TIME, OVERALL I WOULD GRADE THE DESIGN AT A B OR B+. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND DID TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHAT I WANTED OUT OF THE SPACE.
Description of Work: DESIGNED A PERENNIAL GARDEN FOR OUR BACKYARD FOR $40 (PLUS COST OF THE PLANTS AS LONG AS WE SPENT AT LEAST $300 ON THE PLANTS).
