Techies 2U, LLC

I found Techies through a notice on a bulletin board at Starbucks, and did not realize until I spoke with Howard to book a techie that they are also on Angie's List. The Sony Vaio laptop that I use daily for my writing contracts developed a thin vertical line on the screen. After trying to diagnose the problem through online searches, I eventually contacted Sony for tech support. A technician sent me an email with a series of links to help me uninstall and reinstall the video graphics card, which he had diagnosed as the problem based on my contact form submission. My efforts to follow all those instructions led to an extreme problem such that my laptop screen looked like a rainbow on crack. When I emailed the Sony tech, he said a major repair was needed. I had now lost over 2 hours of work, and desperately called the Starbucks where I had seen the Techies 2U poster. The barista relayed the phone number. Howard (presumably the head of the company) called me back within a half hour, and after listening to my description, said he would try to get a techie to my home that evening--which it turned out he was able to do. He said to expect Muji at 6:15, and also explained how they price their services. Muji rang my doorbell exactly at 6:15 pm. I showed him the laptop and explained the recent history. He went right to work while I went to the kitchen to prepare and eat my dinner. At 7:05, he showed me the now-repaired laptop, and explained how the problem had begun, and how the Sony tech's advice had worsened it. His clear explanation was impressive, as I'm not exactly tech-literate. Given that he had diagnosed and solve the problem in 50 minutes, the hourly rate of $70 was eminently reasonable, and also within my budget. You never know, in an urgent situation, whether a vendor will take advantage of you. I give Techies 2U full credit for professional ethics, responsiveness, courtesy, compassion--you name it. Would I use them again? Yes! In fact, I have Muji's number now programmed in my phone (though I of course hope I don't have cause to use them for many moons.) Thanks, Muji and Howard.
