Description of Work: I have 2 Lloyd Flanders white wicker chairs which I use on a partly protected patio. I've had them for about 14 years and have to keep them on the patio all year long due to lack of storage space. I do cover them in the winter, but there was some damage on both of them and the shiny white finish became a dull, dirty, greyish white. I wanted to have them repaired and painted by a professional since they are very high quality, still in good shape otherwise, and the most comfortable chairs ever. They have a very tight weave and I did not want to even try to spray paint them myself. It was difficult to locate them before I signed up for Angie's List. I remembered they had a little storefront on Lake St in Wilmette many years ago. The shop is not there anymore. They have just a workshop behind that same location. A friend and I dropped them off one by one due to their size. I was a little concerned after seeing the work area which is not exactly "for show." They do offer pick-up and delivery in the area for a small fee but it seemed easier to take them in at the time since I was feeling in a hurry to get them back for summer. I decided to have them painted a dark navy blue and they turned out fantastic! I love them and should be able to enjoy them for at least another 15 years. Dennis was very helpful and explained exactly the work that they would do. Although it was more costly than I hoped, it was a very involved and intense job, so I understand the charges and feel it was worth it for the quality of the work that was done. Dennis was great and nicely delivered them to my condo at my convenience. Thank you Dennis. It was nice to meet you and your trusty dog Cheerio. P.S. Excuse the length of my review, but I never write them. Just wanted to let others to know of my experience

After repeated emails and phone calls, I finally got a time for the owner to come out for an estimate. A month went by before I had to call him back to see why I hadn't heard from him to repair my furniture. A few more weeks, and he says he needs $100 for materials. I said only if I could check his references and the BBB. He said he was not part of the BBB and said he's "only been in business for 40 years." No references were given. This is where things have been left. The entire process with him took three months!
Description of Work: Owner was to repair our wicker furniture: bindings were old and had fallen off/stretched. The puppy chewed a couple corners that I wanted touched up.

Dennis always responded to our telephone messages, usually within 2-3 days. We were very pleased with the final results on the chair. It took a little longer than we had first agreed upon, but we weren't in a hurry. The 100-year-old wicker had darkened over time, but expert use of special cleaning fluids restored the wicker so that it was much closer to the original look. The wooden swivel base was repaired so that it worked properly. It was also given a semi-glaze finish so that the original look was maintained, but it lost its scuffed appearance. All of the work was done expertly and as promised. Respectful restoration is very important to Dennis. In fact, one of the other furniture restorers we were first considering told us that whenever they had recaning or wicker repairs, they sent the work to Dennis rather than do it themselves. That certainly helped us decide which company to use for our repairs, and we feel we definitely made the correct choice.
Description of Work: Dennis is an expert at restoring antique wicker furniture, including recaning and wicker repair. We brought him an elaborate antique wicker chair that needed extensive repair work. He brought out catalogs from the company that originally made the chair, just to show us the history of chairs like ours and how this chair fit into their lines of wicker furniture. Since the complete repairs would have cost more than the chair would be worth, we decided on repairing the parts of the chair that would be visible. Then on our own we would cover the arm rests and a seat cushion with fabric, a good compromise. Dennis was very friendly, and very honest with us about what he could and couldn't do as far as repairs went. He agreed to repair the front apron of the chair, which involved reweaving wicker pieces, then staining them to match the existing wicker. He also agreed to clean up the old wicker so it had a fresher look, as well as recondition the wooden swivel base.
