Requested a call with Angie's List on Monday. The called me back in an hour. Service tech came out on Tuesday and confirmed replacement needed. Install techs came out on Thursday morning and installed a new Carrier setup. Fair price and was done in a couple of hours. This is pretty fast turn around for being in summer time and it being busy. Very happy and nice and cool again,

Thursday night our air conditioner died. First thing Friday morning I spoke to Steve and agreed on installation terms which included same day installation. Friday afternoon Gary, Tyler and Jack arrived and within a short time I had new a/c. What is important is how we were treated. From Kathy who first took my call until the job was finished I was treated with respect and friendly professionalism. Frankly most businesses I have talked to can learn from how Discount Heating and Cooling conducts their business. I'm trying to avoid hyperbole, but these guys were 5 star across the board. I did not tell them that air conditioning is critical in our home for medical reasons. The way this job was handled it was as though they knew. I was just another customer. I have no reservations at all to recommend them.

The job went well. It was a difficult job because the air handler and duct work is in the attic due to having boiler heat and little space in the attic as it is shallow. Duct work and 10 registers were added. Most old registers were used for returns as the old system only had one large return. We now have improved air flow in the bedrooms because before when bedroom doors were shut the cooling was just so-so. They were very responsive to our emails and phone calls. I would hire them again.

The are very good people. They do not tell you to do stuff that's unnecessary. It is a family owned company but it is big enough that if you have an emergency, they can do it right away. They've always done a good job.

Doug and Tom arrived on the date & time agreed upon. They were both extremely professional and knowledgable. They completed the job successfully and efficiently. The area was cleaned up upon completion of the work and the furnace is operating efficiently. They did a great job.

Steve came out and give the most competitive price among all bidders. Installation went smoothly. One of the things I wanted to make sure was that the Nest I have works with the new Carrier furnace. Steve noted this on the work order and the tech worked to make it happen (there was some additional Nest setup for the 2-stage blower). The only thing was the tech forgot to set the dip switch inside the furnace to let the Nest drive the 2-stages, hence the "B" grace for quality. Otherwise everything went smoothly. Steve and his team is great to work with, responsive, and honest. Highly recommended.

Brian came out on 7/17 on time and replaced the motor and run capacitor. No drama and no issues. Now that is how service should be done. The ancient AC is back in business just in time. They will be the first people I call in the future for servicing the unit as my regular AC guy retired last year.
Description of Work: I knew the condenser motor on my 50 year old central AC went out a few days ago but I didn't get a chance to check the current draw to validate that until Friday night so I called Discount the next day (Saturday 7/15/17) and spoke to Doug. Doug was professional and courteous but said he couldn't get the motor I needed at that time as the supply places were already closed for the day (which I knew to be true) and to get the fan unstuck from the motor if possible as that would save time and $. He said they'd have someone call on the following Monday (7/17) which they did. I eventually got the fan unstuck and the motor bolts loose so it would be an fast and easy job for the service guy.

Absolutely outstanding experience!!!!! New A/C & coil also 75 gallon water heater (replacement of both) Great installation - their installers were courteous, hard working and went out of their way to maintain a clean environment as they went in and out of the house. It was a difficult installation because of the removal of the old water heater...and they did a fantastic job. In and out...in just 3 hours...could easily been an all day job. Owner is awesome to work with. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Possible the best experience with a contractor so far, worked with Doug over the phone on Sunday and he helped me troubleshoot my problem and game me instructions to try and fix it myself. He was upfront with price difference between emergency call and regular, their parts supplier was closed on Sunday so I opted to wait until Monday before having them come out. Turned out parts needed to be replaced. My furnace was still under warrantee and discount brought the replacement parts on monday and repaired the furnace with no issues. There was a charge for diagnostic, labor and warrantee processing and I didn't have to do anything else.
Description of Work: Furnace was shutting off after a few minutes and not keeping temp up.

I have been a customer of Discount Heating and Cooling for years. I first contacted them when both my furnace and my A/C died. They replaced it with new units. No drama, always professional. A couple years later, my A/C coolant experienced a leak which they were able to fix, and I signed up for their preventive maintenance agreement (PMA). They visit my home twice a year to clean and tune up my system. I don't even have to call for this; they call me to schedule the appointment. They have always been on time and I have seen the same technicians year after year, which to me is indicative of a quality operation. I am now in the process of selling the house and moving far away and am sad that I will have to find a different provider for these services. Highly recommended!

This was a big deal purchase. It was not that great. They came out the same week that I purchased the service. They asked for an additional cost but I did not take that service. I am not for sure I got the whole pound of refrigerant.

I received a call from Doug, an owner, explaining that the company doesn't service my old humidifier type because they cannot get parts if needed. He offered to check it himself, but I declined. I understood his explanation and thought that was extremely good business that he called. Very pleasant experience from Discount Heating and Cooling.

My furnace was under Nicor Maintenance and was cycling. On December 1st Discount Heating and Cooling was dispatched for a clean and check and the cycling issue. They advised it was not the furnace and the issue was with the thermostat. I had just replaced the thermostat on 10-22 so the tech advised it either needed to be covered, moved, or I should consider a remote thermostat. He couldn?t find anything wrong with the furnace that was causing the cycling. Based on this I dropped the Nicor maintenance on the furnace. On January 6th my heat went out. Since Discount was the last to work on the furnace I called them. They came out and advised the high limit needed to be replaced and they didn?t have one and would have to drive to Waukegan to pick one up. When he returned I didn?t see any box and when he left there was no indication of packaging or the defective part. He mentioned the part was under warranty and chuckled when he said it would probably go out again. I reminded him my furnace was no longer under maintenance because after the December call he said the issue had nothing to do with the furnace and I wasn?t happy with the $252.00 I had to spend because he was wrong. He also mentioned the furnace was very dirty which caused alarm since he had just cleaned it. The furnace continued to cycle I bought another thermostat and cover early February. I called Carrier and opened a ticket for assistance because I didn?t want to keep pouring money into this issue. While waiting for a response I called Discount and was on the phone with them for about an hour. They told me to turn up the heat and we counted how many times the furnace turned off and right back on. The error 33 limit circuit fault was the error. While on the phone we discussed the remote thermostat the tech had recommended before. They also talked about their daughter having this same issue and it was the duct work, insulation, and everything else except the furnace. I felt at this point they were pointing the real issue away from the furnace since they had already advised twice it was not the issue. I mentioned concern about how much this cost and that if it was diagnosed correctly the first time it would have been covered. I also asked for the model number of the part they replaced since it wasn?t indicated on the ticket. They advised he had the part on the truck but when I told them he didn?t they said they didn?t have it. They advised to make another appointment and there would be an $85.00 trip charge but I advised I was waiting on carrier. Carrier Rep TEC contacted them on the issue. I spoke to them and advised I was not confident based on what was said they would take responsibility financially since they were not originally correct with what was wrong. TEC had conversations with Discount and myself. One question I had for Carrier tech support and TEC was the comment discount made in January about how dirty the furnace was. I was afraid this issue had taken a toll on the furnace but was advised by both the only way it was that dirty a month later is if it had never been cleaned. I felt based on conversations and what they never said that they would not take responsibility. Nicor also advised since I cancelled the maintenance they were no longer responsible even though it happened when it was under maintenance. They said I could file a claim but the chances of recouping the money were slim. On 2-13 I called another hvac place they came out and checked everything which Discount should have done the first and second time out. Within 5 minutes after starting they found the gas pressure was set higher than the guidelines indicated. On the discount ticket from 12-1 he had checked the fuel pressure box was checked. Once this was adjusted to Carriers recommended setting the cycling stopped. They went on and checked every vent and all furnace components which Discount didn?t do. I have never had one issue with the furnace cycling and removed the cover on the thermostat which the second hvac place said contributed to the issue. Carrier also confirmed the incorrect gas pressure would have caused the high limit issue that cost me $252.00. I don?t care how many A plus ratings or how much certified training people have. The tech that came out twice was wrong and his mistake cost me $500.00 between calls and replacement thermostats, covers and install. Even with lead in conversations they never offered to take responsibility for the two incorrect diagnosis I?m glad I didn?t go for the remote thermostat that is over $200.00. I contacted Nicor (Pivotal) Home Solutions to advise Discount responded that I never had the coverage to fix and only to clean and check which was not true. They confirmed at the time of service I did have the repair service and not only the clean and check and had no indication of who if anyone had provided Discount with this incorrect information. Even though I no longer carried the nicor home maintenance they encouraged me to file a complaint. I provided all copies of work tickets for this issue and Nicor Home Solutions sent me a check for $234.00 to cover the cost of the hvac service that was able to fix the problem. I must thank Discount because if I wasn't upset they responded with incorrect information regarding my coverage I would never have filed the complaint and gotten my money back from Nicor Home Solutions.

We understand your concern. We spoke to NICOR and you never had coverage to FIX your system or any problem with your system. The coverage from NICOR was only for cleaning. Your unit had a 33 code which is for an overheating condition which can be cause by many things such as : Dirty filters, Restricted cooling coil, Bad or slow running motors, Ductwork or Venting undersizing, Gas Pressure settings ect. We were at your home on 12/1 under NICOR for cleaning and again on 1/16 for the limit, the gas pressure was in spec and all performed as it should have at that time. We were notified of an issue afterwards a we advised that if it was the same issue we would NOT charge you to come out the ONLY charge you would see would be "Continuing Time" as if we never left. You didn't want to do that even after telling you that it may need further adjustments.

The technician (Brian) came out first on Wednesday, 3/4/14. Very professional. Had to bleed the lines and make sure the system seemed to be working properly. Then left after 2 hours, since would take some time for house to warm. He was scheduled to come back the next day to install a new thermostat. On the next day, the house was still very cold. He replaced the thermostat and bleed the lines some more. On Friday, the house was still pretty cold. I called the company and talked to the owner, Doug. He said he would visit the house that day and he did. He found that the system needed a new pump (system is pretty old). He installed the new pump and felt this would correct the problem. It did. Doug and his staff (including Kathy, the office manager) are excellent and very responsive.
Description of Work: Discount came to my sister's house in Arlington Heights to repair her radiant heating system. Was not providing enough heat (like on cold nights, house was at 42 degrees). After some hard work, the system was repaired.
