A&J Sewer & Septic Service, Inc.

We live in an older neighborhood with a unique older sewer system that uses a septic catch basin/tank (~500 gal) that discharges to the main (city) sewer system. Most of the plumbers and other septic companies I spoke with had no experience with this, but A&J has worked in this area before and understood what to look for. We are new owners of the home, but according to our neighbors the tank has not been opened in over 30 years! We provided all the details on the system that we had discovered and even sent photos. We scheduled for a septic pumping, rodding and camera of the discharge line. The septic crew gave us a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to arrival and wanted to make sure we knew there was a digging fee to unbury the tank lid after the first foot…We were not told that while setting up the appointment. We postponed the service and dug up the lid ourselves, which A&J had no problem with. Once the lid was exposed, we rescheduled and again the septic crew gave us a courtesy call. They arrived on-time and were professional but brief. Our sanitary solids were right at the bottom of the inlet, and the septic crew did a decent job pumping and a good job taking care in our yard and keeping their equipment organized. Unfortunately, their power washer was broken and they had to use our hose and water. We had to ask to get my hose cleaned off afterwards – you would think they would do that automatically, as a courtesy, after having to use it. Additionally, we were told we may have a soil bottom and they couldn’t spend “all day” (<1hr) pumping. (Afterwards, I called the city and they said that was very unlikely). If the crew brought the right equipment (working power washer, crust buster or equiv.) then the pumping would not have taken so long. The sewer rodding staff, Kyle, was the star of the show! He called us 1.5 hrs before the appointment to let me know his current job was likey to go long and there was traffic getting out of Chicago, so we pushed the appointment – he arrived exactly when he said he would. He set up his equipment quick and efficiently, the whole time explaining what he was planning to do and asking questions about my system. Kyle noticed our outlet baffle was loose due to its age and looooong neglect, was at risk of breaking during service. Note my outlet baffle is almost 7 ft bgs. Kyle provided us with a few troubleshooting options and explained the risk and benefits clearly. In the end he worked carefully, protected our baffle and had the line cleared all the way to the main in no time. Kyle even saved us a few hundred $, noticing there was a fair amount of sludge on the rodder cable. With the tank still filling (no water discharge) the camera lens would be obscured by the sludge, but we still would have to be charged for the service. He recommended waiting a few weeks to allow the line to clear and either reschedule the camera service then or just monitor the tank and request the service as needed. All in all, A&J did good work, but I was not fully impressed with the pumping service and was considering another contractor next time until Kyle showed up. He was knowledgeable, clear and truthful and got the work done efficiently. That’s how a service should be provided – having the tools to perform the work, well trained, up front and courteous staff.

It was very easy to schedule service with A&J. They gave me a courtesy call 25 minutes prior to arrival and arrived as scheduled. Shaun did an excellent job of rodding and televising the sewer line while keeping me informed of progress and recommendations. The office followed-up the following day to ensure that everything went as expected. I used one of A&J's company website promotions offering free sewer line televising with power rodding which was an excellent value. I would not hesitate to use A&J again as their level of service is far beyond what I've experienced elsewhere.

The guys shows exactly when they were supposed to. The were courteous and professional. This was the second time I have had the catch basin cleaned out--A&J's first time. When A&J was done, it was clear that the first company did a bad job. With A&J's work, I could see the bottom of the basin and they had sucked up bricks, bits of metal etc. Not so with the other guys, but I did not know any better. They rodded and took a video of my main line. The will download that and keep it in their system to compare with the next time they do this. Their price came in exactly as estimated. Their price was several hundred dollars cheaper than another estimate that I had gotten. When they were all done, they power washed the area clean. I will use them again and recommend them to my neighbors.

Everything went smoothly. Job was done as scheduled, for quoted price, professional, friendly, perfect. We've used their services since at least 2011, if not before. They call us every 3 years to remind us it's time for the basin to be pumped out, and we appreciate the reminder. If you need a sewer or drain line cleaned or rodded out, these are the guys to call.

I scheduled to have my catch basin cleaned. I received a call from Danny asking if he could arrive an hour before the scheduled time. I was done with the errands I had to do and welcomed the call and earlier visit for the cleaning. Danny was very polite and professional. He explained what he was going to do and got it done in a reasonable time and cleaned up before he left. I will definitely recommend this company for future plumbing and sewer work.

The serviceman showed up right on time. He was courteous and had no problem answering my many questions. The job was completed in an hour. When I asked if we needed the pipes rodded he told me it was not necessary. The whole experience was painless! I would definitely use this company again. Their serviceman was the most patient person I've ever dealt with. A job well done!!!

They always call prior to the due date for the service to remind you. They call when in transit. They do not over charge and do a great job.

On 1/8 Randy and another team member came to pump my catch basin. In order to get into the alley, they helped my neighbor dig his stuck truck out of the snow. They were friendly, prompt and efficient. They explained to me exactly what was happening, and showed me the pipes and catch basin structure. They were careful not to let my dogs out of the yard. When they realized that my drains also needed to be rodded, they arranged for a crew to come out the next day and gave me instructions to prevent any further back up into my basement for 24 hours. On 1/9 Joe arrived to rod my drains as scheduled. He also was friendly, prompt and efficient. He took a look at the location of the street sewer and walked me through how the drains and catch basins function. I learned something new about the drains and access points in my house. April, in the office, was helpful and informative. She was easy to work with for scheduling the initial visit, and kept me informed for the follow up visit.

We had an overflowing toilet in the first floor every time we took a shower. We called AJ Sewer Service and their price was relatively reasonable plus they were able come out on one of the worst snow days this season. There was a cancellation and they were able to dispatch someone within the hour. Joe arrived and was very courteous and professional from the beginning. He explained the pricing and the service before he started. He took and look and determined that there was a clog leading from the house. After rodding, he was able to pull out some roots that were causing the clog. He took his time to show and explain everything. He proceeded to rod from the access out to the main to make sure. Afterward, he came in the house to check everything and make sure that the water was draining correctly. Joe was very knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to explain everything. I would definitely use their service in the future.

I've used this provider since 2006, I think they are terrific. Over the years, they have tuckpointed my catch basis, taken camera views of entire line to main sewer connection, and provided regular maintenance. I especially like that they keep a record of when you want them to come back. And even if it's once every year or two, they remember. Very courteous, professional and reasonable. Call 'em!

Courteous service from start to finish. Accurate estimate of pricing; good estimate of when the service person would arrive; removed a lot of debris that somehow had fallen into the basin.

Great experience (if cleaning out a catch basin can ever be a pleasant experience...). Called on a Wednesday afternoon and had someone on site the next afternoon. Tony, the serviceman who was on site, was prompt and extremely professional and courteous, and a wealth of knowledge on how the entire plumbing system worked for the building as it relates to the catch basin.

The job went very well. They were responsive, on time, professional, explained the problem and took care of it in a timely manner. What really impressed me was their knowledge. When I asked him why the lines got clogged so soon after they were cleaned out by another plumber he said that the wrong sized head was used on the router. The previous plumber cleaned the line from the toilet (a 2 1/2" line) but when it reached the line outside the house (a 4" line) he still used the same head. This meant that the main line was not fully cleaned out. The man from A & J made sure he used the proper heads for each line. Very satisfied and would use them again.

I discovered that my elderly mother's basement toilet was backing up the evening she came home from the hospital. I thought the problem was the catch basin. I called A&J Sewer on my daughter's recommendation - they had cleaned out her catch basin last year. The servicemen came the following day (right before a holiday weekend) and discovered the real problem was that the main sewer line was clogged. They returned with the equipment for a sewer operation and quickly rodded out the line. Afterwards they cleaned up the basement area. They even gave me mother a senior citizen discount. The repairmen were very professional and pleasant to deal with. I would definitely recommend A&J Sewer!

Called at 8.15a.m. and they had someone round by 10.30a.m.. Office was efficient and businesslike. The job was completed by noon. Quite a lot of roots needed removal as it had been many years since previously done. Water was flowing freely at completion.Technician Tom explained everything he was doing and gave advice on repeat rodding and use of root killers.Altogether a pleasant experienc in the circumstances.

The pump truck pulled up right on time and Jeff was very helpful in explaining how my system works. He wasn't here to troubleshoot but called an experienced installer about a problem I was having with my drain field before he started the work and gave me advice to solve the issue. He located two additional septic tanks that didn't look like they'd been serviced for a long time and pumped out 2300 gallons(!) of sludge from all three tanks combined. He gave me advice on installing tank risers, so that it'd be easier to locate the covers next time. Then he promised to call me in two years to take a look and see how the system was performing.Definitely very pleased with the service and the free education on my septic system. I stayed with him the entire time because he was both friendly and because I was eager to learn more about how the system works.
