+ -1 moreDave Westwood of Harold Westwood Concrete poured our backyard patio in the summer of 2019. During the following winter, we noticed that water was pooling on it near the foundation (at the time he poured it, he assured us this wouldn’t happen because it would be graded so the water would run away from the house). I e-mailed Dave twice about the problem, but he did not respond. Despite multiple attempts, I was unable to raise him on the phone, either. Frustrated at his lack of response, I finally reached out to his father, Harold. He admitted that his son Dave “wasn’t good about returning calls”, but promised he would prevail upon him to reach out to address the problem. In his defense, he mentioned that Harold Westwood Concrete had recently lost two employees and was simply overwhelmed with work, and that contributed to his son’s lack of response. In any event, it’s inexcusable. I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced such an utter lack of follow-through by any local business. If you’re looking for someone to pour your deck or driveway and then wash their hands of you, this is probably the company for you.

+ -1 moreWe provided the plans to Harold to quote the work. Then he re-quoted it with a higher price. We still planned to use Harold, but he delayed the project multiple times. He indicated he had issues with labor and health issues. He told us he could not start the job until September. I called August 30th to confirm and he claimed he did not have the job planned. He is disorganized and does not prioritize his work. Now we wasted several months of the season and are back to square one.

Description of Work: They replaced my front stoop, sidewalk, and driveway with new concrete. Arrived on schedule to do the work. The crew was professional and efficient - they definitely knew what they were doing. Harold has made followup calls since the work was completed. I have already talked to them about additional work on a patio.

+ -1 moreMy colored stamped concrete driveway had chipped and lost patches of color and was a real eyesore Dave fixed all the chips restored the color and sealed the driveway.I think it looks better now than when it was first done.We have had many neighbors remark how good it looks..Some other companies said they would have to replace the driveway.

+ -1 moreI called his office at least two times before he responded. When I finally reached him he stated that he would come that afternoon or that evening to take a look . I wanted my cement porch resurfaced . He also stated that he didn't like doing porch projects because of legal liability. Even if he didn't he should not have told me he would come. I do not recommend this contractor.

+ -1 moreThe work performed was outstanding. The stamped concrete looks great. After the job was already underway, and the concrete was already being poured, I made some requests for slight changes, and Dave took my request and made the changes with no issues at all. I also asked for them to add a new post for a basketball hoop, which they also did at no additional charge. Overall, it was a great experience working with Harold and his son.
Description of Work: We recently hired Harold Westwood Concrete and it was a very good experience. They removed our blacktop driveway and replaced it with concrete, and they also removed our front walkway and back patios and replaced both of those with stamped concrete.

+ -1 moreI called to have him come out for a quote on a replacement concrete porch with a larger replacement walkway with new concrete along the sides of the driveway. That was fairly prompt. He came just when he was supposed to, etc. I discussed the concrete job with him and he said he'd get back to me with a quote. I felt like he gave me some good advice concerning a critter problem I was having...and then I never heard from him again. Never did get a quote from him.

+ -1 moreHarold came out and provided the estimate promptly when I requested in March. He stated that he would not be able to fit us into his schedule until June. He phoned in mid-April and was able to fit us in the following week. We paid $3500 before work started and the balance upon completion. The job took just two days. We were happy that there was very minimal damage done to the end of the lawn and planting beds with the forms.
Description of Work: Obtained permit, removed existing blacktop driveway, cut curb, formed, poured and sealed 41'x26' concrete driveway.

+ -1 moreHe told me this job was too small to justify working at my location (Lombard) from his location in Wheaton. He suggested that I check with companies located in Lombard or Villa Park for smaller jobs such as mine. I did appreciate the fact that he returned the call so quickly.
Description of Work: Called for an estimate to have a concrete stoop, step and section of concrete sidewalk replaced. I left message and he called back within an hour.

+ -1 moreAs I stated above we thought we were off to a great start when Harold came over and gave us a quote and work date, but he never contacted us again. Only when we called several times over two months did we finally get him to call back, only to find out that he didn't want to do the job anyway. It wasn't profitable enough for him. We never got the job started or finished.
Description of Work: We contacted Harold Westwood in May to get an estimate and work date for repair of a crumbling front stoop. He called back, came over, gave us an estimate and work date. So far so good. When it rained and we had to postpone the date he said he would recontact us in June. We waited for his call. No call. We called him and agreed to talk after we returned from a short trip after June 21st. He didn't call. We called him twice before we got him on the phone. He got irritated at my husband and he accused my husband of "pressuring" him about the job when all he wanted to know was whether we were still on his schedule. We should have gotten out then, but we backed off and gave him July to get back to us. No calls. We called twice more and I finally got his wife on the phone. It was now the first week in Aug. I asked her to have Harold call us about a work date, or to tell us where we were on his list. He did not call. A week later I called again and got his wife again. I explained to her that we had to hear from him as we were leaving in August. He finally called me back and the first thing he said to me was, "Am I supposed to do a job for you?" I got over my surprise and explained the job we had agreed to. He now said he remembered the job and said that we had talked in March and that he had quoted us "winter" rates. The implication was that his price would now be higher. He also said that he "wouldn't make any money" on our job it was too small. He was going to start a big job with a housing development and that he probably couldn't get to us until September, if then. In other words find someone else. We now had been waiting since May (March?) and the summer is more than half over with no work done on a project we had planned to have done by early summer. We are now starting from scratch. I have no idea why our experience was so different than the people who have recommended him. I have never run into a contractor with less integrity or regard for potential clients. If our job was too small he should have said so from the very beginning and given us a chance to find someone else.

+ -1 moreMr. Westwood returned our inquiry phone call promptly and came over the next day to give us an estimate. We agreed to hire his company for the repairs, and the work was scheduled for the day after. The crew arrived on time and went right to work. All the repairs were completed the same day and to our satisfaction. The workers were very competent and did an excellent job. We are very pleased.
Description of Work: The crew repaired several cracks, one of them fairly large in the stucco/concrete exterior walls of our attached one-car garage and also repaired a large crack in several courses of cinder block on the interior of the garage.

+ -1 moreExcellent experience. Harold had replaced this porch for us 23 years ago, but not even his work can stand up to critters tunneling underneath -- a problem we since have solved. Scheduled the work about a month in advance, were told it might be done earlier. Harold kept us updated on his schedule and the removal and concrete pouring in fact were done about a week early. Crew arrived on time, worked hard and quickly. New porch looks great and is properly pitched. Our porch is covered and has pillars supporting the covering roof; we had to hire a carpenter to brace the porch roof so the support pillars could be moved out of the way, but that was not a problem.
Description of Work: Over the years, critters had burrowed under our concrete slab porch (9x30 feet) and caused it to sink toward the house. Harold and his crew removed the old concrete slab, poured a new porch. Work done on schedule, on time and extremely professionally.

+ -1 moreTHIS IS A GREAT COMPANY. THEY ARE VERY HONEST AND PROFESSIONAL. THEY TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR WORK AND THE WORK WAS COMPLETED PROMPTLY AS SCHEDULED. HAROLD KEPT US UPDATED ON WHEN THEY WOULD BE HERE AND HOW LONG THE PROJECT WOULD TAKE. THE WORK AREA WAS LEFT NEAT AND CLEAN. I PLAN TO HAVE THEM REPLACE MY DRIVE IN THE FUTURE WITH A STAMPED CONCRETE DRIVE.
Description of Work: REPLACED AN 8' BY 22' SECTION OF THE GARAGE FLOOR AND APRON.
