Scheduled the job in the early afternoon, Alex arrived at my residence a couple of hours later, on time. I threw in a second location and more takes. Trouble shooting and problem solving, all done in slightly under two hour, which included following me from one location to the other and a couple of runs to the hardware store. Nice and smooth. These tasks have been on my to do list for 10 weeks. All done in under two hours-Well Done. I am pleased.
Description of Work: The original job was at my residence. Alex helped me sort through some issues with light fixtures- a couple of outdoor lights and a light in the house (which was a silly task simply due to my silliness). I then called the home office to see if if could have Alex help me out with some electrical issues at my office, which involved a malfunctioning ballast in the fluorescent lamp. While I went out to get the part, he replaced all the blown fluorescent bulbs throughout my office-12 in total. Then proceeded to fix the malfunctioning lamp. Given this was all planned this later this morning and I threw in an additional location and additional tasks I was pleased with the outcome. Thanks Alex and Becky being accommodating and making it all easy.

The entire project went very well. Betsey promptly scheduled the appointment time and date. Herb arrived promptly on that date and proceeded to review the work needed. He covered his shoes upon entering the house and covered the entire work area. He determined the best way to move the electrical box and wiring. He worked efficiently and finished as quickly as possible. He thoroughly cleaned the area before leaving. The electricians at Oakwood have completed many jobs for me over the past several years and I have always been very pleased with their professionalism and their respect for my home. Oakwood will continue to be my ?go-to? choice for electrical work.

I just bought an older home and I've had quite a few contractors of various trades do different things around the house. I haven't been too impressed by most of them...even the super high rated guys on The List. Oakwood is hands down the best I've had do work so far. They actually asked where I wanted things installed and didn't just assume (seems basic, but I've had a few bad experiences). They communicate exactly what they are doing before the work is done. They did a great job and they actually clean up after themselves. And it's not the cleaning where a broom is run down the middle of the floor and they think they've done you a favor. One guy was on his hands and knees with a vacuum and lifting shoes near the door to make sure none of the dust was under there. I've used them twice and the experience was solid both times. I wish they did other trades, because they're one of the few I trust.
Description of Work: Installed can lights throughout the house, added an outlet and some switches.

My first time working with this firm and very happy with the results. Easy to work with, professional and prompt. Herb was able to install the coach-lights and even give me tips on their usage. The other outlets were simple installations and he worked fast. Very happy with the quality of the work.
Description of Work: They installed two coach lights on my garage, 3 new GFCI outlets throughout my house and a new outdoor insulated and waterproof exterior outlet.

We were very pleased with this company. They came on a day when we didn't need the heating or cooling system to be on so they could do the repairs. They said it might take up to 8 hours to fix the problem. The workers kept us informed of when the electricity was off and it didn't end up being turned off for the full eight hours. They were very professional and informative and I really appreciated their thoughtfulness. I would highly recommend this company to others.
Description of Work: They changed 100 old style amps to 200 amp service. with a 40 circuit panel. They installed ground rod, 2 inch conduit HW M meter socket. 200 amp mogal ground strap, pipe ground water meter. grounded through the water meter. There were two men who worked for 8 hours.

The electrical lines were not buried properly at all. They did not have the electric wire long enough. They did not have the internet and cable wires long enough and was not a thick enough grade. The landscaper (who was subcontracted by Oakwood) did not complete the job and did not properly fill in the trench for the underground electrical wires. Oakwood electric made the contract based upon Commonwealth Edison owning the utility pole and Rob calculated the length of the electric wire using their standards. The electrical wire did not go up to the utility pole far enough and I had to have another electrical contractor come in which cost an additional $2200. The ownership of the utility pole was not properly identified, the underground Comcast internet/cable/and TV line was too short and was of a thinner grade than Comcast requires, the underground electrical lines were too short, and the landscaper did not properly level off the top of the filled in trench.
Description of Work: He buried our electrical lines and cable lines.

Response from Oakwood Electric & Generator
It is unfortunate that this customer has decided to leave a bad review for our business when his dissatisfaction is due to his miscommunication and expectations for the job. His ultimate dissatisfaction is with the landscaper. When we bid the job, he told us the pole was owned by Com Ed. We did our portion of the job and then we assumed he was working with Com Ed to complete the job. He later informed us that the utility pole was owned by him. We referred him to another electrician that we often work with who has a bucket truck to help with the pole work. The $2,200 he is referring to was a cost that had to do with the work on the utility pole that he had no choice but to do and had nothing to do with our work. We spoke with the other electrician and he was not charging him extra due to the length of the wires. We hired a landscaper to dig a trench for the work we were doing. The landscaper dug the trench, we did our work and then the landscaper returned to cover the trench. The day he did it in August it was muddy. The landscaper said he would return to rake the dirt and tidy up the trench on another day. The landscaper returned and did the work in the fall. Over the winter, the customer called and said that the landscaper never returned to tidy up the trench. The landscaper in fact had returned and did the work and the customer was mistaken. The landscaper went out an additional time to verify. The customer is dissatisfied that the trench sunk in over the winter and wants the landscaper to add more dirt to the trench. Landscapers do not warranty their work for digging ditches. Mother nature, wind, rain, and snow impact the earth. This customer paid our landscaper to dig a trench and cover a trench when the work was completed. The landscaper did what he was contracted to do. If the customer had contracted with the landscaper to continue to monitor and grade the ditch over a period of a year, as the seasons changed, and the landscaper failed to do that, then the landscaper would be at fault. That is not the case. We rely on reviews as a referral source for our business. We did the electrical work we were contracted to do for this customer. I believe his miscommunication about the ownership of the utility pole in his yard and his inappropriate expectation of the ditch digging resulted in what has led to him being unhappy and posting this review.

Had previous installation within past 2 yrs of 20kw triple phase generator for small office building. Crew, when they come, are great and Rob does seem to want to 'make it right'... 'do it the right way'. However last week, for the first time, the generator become non-operational. This is an emergency situation in my opinion that I was willing to pay overtime/double time or even triple-time to just get the service accomplished. The biggest problem with this company is the receptionist that you get when you call --Becky. She she doesn't seem to care or has given up on the business or something. No customer service skills whatsoever. I called her last week on Tuesday AM (~8AM)--> told her our situation with the generator being non-functional. She indicated that they "might be able to get someone out later today, but probably tomorrow." Being patient, I accepted this as possible solution. But in retrospect, I was never offered the option for late night/after hrs work, double time, triple-time, etc. for which I would have paid $$. They are certainly NOT a 24/7 operation and why they have an answering service is laughable. Suffice it to say, they did not come out that Tuesday/first day, nor was there any follow-up call on status that day. The following day/Wed, there was no status/follow-up call from the company all morning. I politely called around 11AM asked Becky where my company/service request was in the queue. She then went out to overtly say that I was being inpatient...that I should realize how hard the guys are working on a then, current installation job. No offer of coming after, or at night, etc. Again I would have paid $$ for this. And notably not just 10 days earlier, another lady/receptionist from their company cold-called me to ask about maintenance service for my parents' generator --> they are 'looking' for business, but when it counts, in an emergency, they're nowhere to be found. Be warned---> they will take your money and perform a nice job on the install, but in a pinch when your generator fails for whatever reason, they're not gonna help you. Best advice to this company is hire one or several new receptionist(s)/coordinators that know how to show some compassion for a customer's plight...and to Never say no to someone who wants to give you money!
Description of Work: Previously installed triple phase generator for ~2800sqf office building. Now request was for emergency service due to non-functioning state.

We pride ourselves on our reputation and do our best to help each and every customer that we have. Over the last few months, we have been so extremely busy that we have had to turn work down. We have actually stopped taking on any new service call work, in order to focus on the work that we have already committed to. We are grateful for all of business, especially after the roller coaster of the economic downturn that all construction trades went through over the last few years. In regards to this customer’s disappointment with our service, we were honest with him throughout the process and explained what he should expect. We have 2 Generac Factory Trained Technicians that are authorized to complete repairs on Generators. We cannot simply send another one of our electricians that is not trained to troubleshoot a generator issue. All of our factory trained technicians had been scheduled to take care of other customers. Those customers had been on the schedule for a few weeks. We were attempting to assist [member name removed] with his needs, but explained that we had to see how their scheduled jobs were progressing as the day went on. This customer was disappointed that I couldn’t guarantee that they would be there in the afternoon. I felt it would be wrong to promise something that I truly couldn’t promise. The customer threatened to post bad reviews on Angie’s List and Yelp and then hung up on me. It is unfortunate that despite our efforts to communicate honestly about our abilities to assist this customer, and because we couldn’t help him in the timeframe that he wanted, he has chosen to tarnish our reputation. I hope that any potential customers that have taken the time to read the review that was posted and our response will understand that there are always two sides to every story and still give us the opportunity to earn their business.

Rob was very prompt in answering all my calls and very clear in answering all of my numerous questions. His crew was outstanding in their knowledge and experience with regard to working with all of the electric and gas settings and hook up for a large generator. They had to run the electric and gas lines through my crawl space to get to my gas meter. They put on booties over their shoes each time they came in to do work under my house. This unit was installed by Oakwood Lighting Electric Service, Inc. (now known as Oakwood Electric & Generator). Rob Rheingten and his crew arrived when scheduled and almost finished the installation at the end of the day. During repair work in our subdivision, ComEd's crew inadvertently cut the power. Rob and his crew then stayed at our job until it was completed that day and we had power again from the generator. Rob & the crew followed up with the installation, village permit inspection and all details. We are very pleased with all aspects of their work and attention to detail. Both the generator and Oakwood Electric & Generator are highly recommended.
Description of Work: Oakwood Electric & Generator provided excellent service and information. At our first meeting, Rob Rheingten explained all of the features and costs of various generators which enabled us to make an informed decision for a unit that met our needs. The installation went smoothly and the generator works well. The follow up was, and still is, excellent. I would highly recommend this company and its personnel.

Once again Oakwood Lighting was extremely responsive. I'm toward the end of a complete bathroom remodel when the general contractor advised me he was unable to properly install the light/fan unit. On Saturday morning I contacted Oakwood Lighting and Betsey responded almost immediately. Alex called me Saturday afternoon and arranged for someone to come on Monday afternoon. Albert arrived around 11:00am to check it out and immediately went to work. He called Alex for the appropriate cover plate/switch unit and they were both done by 1:00 am. I could not be happier!!!!! Albert also pointed out some other electrical issues he noticed that I should to resolve in the future.
Description of Work: Albert pulled a third wire and installed 3 switches for a bathroom light/fan/nightlight unit. He and Alex also check the GFCI outlets installed by a different contractor.

Luckily I had my wife send me a picture because they did not follow the city code or their quote. Owner came out and fixed the problem but did not follow the city code for grounding. We pride ourselves in our quality of work, customer service and follow through. Unfortunately, despite all of our efforts to satisfy this customer, it appears they feel we fell short. In order to represent both sides of the story I have provided some additional details. The customer had very specific desires for the outcome of the job. Unfortunately, he could not be on site when we completed the work due to his job commitments. When he was unhappy with the job, he called and expressed his dissatisfaction. The installation we provided was correct, but was not what he desired. The owner of the company wanted to make sure the customer was happy so he went back out to the residence, had it re-installed per the customers request without any additional cost to the customer. We left the job feeling that although the customer was unhappy at the initial installation, that he was happy with the end result.
