Description of Work: Mr. Handyman repaired a section of fence that had fallen. I was happy with the repair, but when I called for a quote to have some other work done, their prices were much too high. I would only use them as a last option.

Description of Work: They cut my ceiling and replaced drywall, sanded and painted drywall. I've used them for several projects, and would def. recommend them.

Description of Work: The owner was fine. The job was assessed and a quotation was provided. We agreed on price and timing and the work was set to begin. This is painting in the basement and in one bedroom. The person he contracted to do the work (a painter who has been painting for over 30 years) and his assistant came and assessed the work. They looked very troubled. They said the estimate was inaccurate and it would take more than double the time to do what was on the quotation. He wanted to add time and add $1000. I told him that's not right. I did what I needed to do, ask someone to assess the work, give a quotation - now we can't have this "bait and switch" as it's terribly unprofessional. We went back and forth for a while, got the owner involved and finally agreed to proceed. 30 min later the painter came back in and said, "Change of plans and you're not going to like it." We have another job to go to and we'll let you sort everything out with the owner. So I got back on the phone with the owner and said this was unacceptable, that they have everything in the house, they should just proceed. So they did. In fact, they completed the work in much less time than even the quotation stated. I have it proven that they did not work a full day either of the two days and they said it would take four. Additionally, the work is very very sloppy. Not at all impressed with someone who says they have been painting for over 30 years. PLUS his assistant showed up the next day reeking of alcohol. I wouldn't recommend these painters. This is the second job I've had with Handyman. Even the first one, where we had his drywall guy come in and patch holes and get it ready for painting, has done substandard work. He forgot some of the holes and some of the patching work has come off. We are not at all happy and are wondering now if we have to get another company in to do the right thing. I even asked the painters, "Please do the work like you would do your own house." I overheard him tell this to the owner and he went on to say, "If I had to do that, it would take twice as long." WHAT? So you're not going to treat my house with the due respect you would your own? It was unbelievable. Sadly, my husband has decided we should probably start looking elsewhere for referrals. Sorry, but this was a very disappointing double experience with these folks recommended by your firm.
