Mr. Handyman of Wheaton-Hinsdale

Ed was very flexible and responsive. I had been waiting for weeks for the cabinet pulls to come in and he was very accommodating to my schedule. He arrived promptly at 930 am as planned and was careful and courteous. Price was fair but not cheap. Job was done perfectly and on schedule. No extra charges. Custom Cabinets are his real passion. I wish I had met him before I installed these. I Definitely recommend Ed.

Initially everyone was very professional. The work was to be done in 2 days and estimate of $1700 which got pushed to 3 days because the person doing the work did not come prepared with door knobs. The door was left half painted for over a week and plastic on the glass that would not come off. Third day L**** arrives instead of 1.5 hours he spends 5 hours and we were expected to pay for the difference which was $135. When we spoke to the office manager Jill, she threatened to SUE us if we posted any negative comments on the internet. Well all i can say is that this is "freedom of speech" and the review written here is the truth. We have pictures which prove all the poor quality of work done which includes a french door with a 1 inch gap in between, the paint on the door is not even and the glass panels still have plastic on them that will not come off. RESPONSE TO COMMENT BY MR. HANDYMAN*****i never told any of your team members over the phone that the quality was good and that we were satisfied. Your team members threatened to "SUE" me if i posted anything that is all that happened. This is inaccurate information on the part of this handyman company.

They were very professional. The fees they quoted upfront were accurate, they confirmed the appointment in advance, and their technician was prompt and did excellent work.

Fortunately, the window and door company that we purchased the door from was able to meet our scheduling needs and budget.

They did a good job. It was basically done on time for the price that they quoted. All the way around I think they did a good job. It went well, better than I could have don. I don't like climbing ladders going up two floors. The work was done right and fair but there's always small issues. Its not like it was a class 10 work. It was one mark below it. If it was a scale of 1-10, I'd go a 9. If anything, there was a slight problem, it was probably the caulking aspect of it. That could have been probably done a little bit cleaner but you can't see it that much. The quality was very good. They did everything that I asked them to do. The beginning responsiveness was kind of lengthy. In other words, I didn't get a response back after the quote for awhile and I have to call a few times. Once they started the work and he had a job in there, it was like everyday until everything was done. Punctuality was very good.

He charged me a service fee but he wasn't able to fix the problem. He wasn't able to get it up and running but he was very helpful and he suggested a couple of places in the area where I could take it to. He was very professional and timely and everything so it's great service. He was 10 minutes early.

They are very good. Some people think they may be a little high but if you need help, you have to go with it. They are reliable, they are prompt, they are clean, and they have good men working for them. They were very good. They cleaned their shoes and they put booties on when they came in, and they were very clean. If they weren't like that, I wouldn't have them back but I've had the handyman here several times. They are out of Wheaton. I just call the number that I have and I just keep in touch with them. I work with 2 different men. One is Scott and one is Tom. They are here when they are supposed to be. I don't have to call them and ask them when they are coming. I can depend on them. They don't hire anybody that isn't good.

They were excellent. I would highly recommend them.

They were great. The handyman was courteous, professional and cleaned up well after himself. Scheduling an appointment was very easy.

It was a bit pricey, but they were reliable and they showed up on time. They did what I needed them to do. They came on the day that I wanted and the time that I wanted.

The handyman was prompt, did good work, and did a nice job of cleaning up after himself. However, he was very rushed when completing the projects for me.

He arrived on time and was very polite and professional. I appreciated that he made it clear that if any parts or supplies were necessary, I would be paying him to go to the store so he gave me the option to take care of that myself in order to save money. Fortunately, that was not necessary. In addition, he had a hunch that my leaky faucet was not reparable so he said he'd spend 30 minutes max taking a look at it rather than wasting a lot of time on a job that couldn't be fixed. He also gave me the chance to help him out with a few minor things and showed me how to do other easy jobs by myself, thereby saving me more money. It's too bad that hiring a handyman is so expensive, especially since he didn't really do anything that my husband couldn't do. But time is money, as they say, and it was worth it to get those things off our list.

From the initial call, Mr. Handyman was courteous and took the time to understand my needs. On the day they were supposed to repair my soffit, the Handyman introduced himself and quickly got to work. Everything was completed to my satisfaction.

Outstanding from start to finish. Glenn, the owner, takes your call, sets up an appointment that is convenient for you, and Pete the Handyman showed up exactly on time, if not five minutes sooner! Pete replaced our old bathroom faucet with a new one, and noted the pipes under the sink were quite old and corroded, and suggested they be replaced at some time. Pete was willing to do that job for us also while he was here. Absolutely no pressure. Pete has a wonderful personality, very hard worker, doesn't waste time, and did a fabulous job. I highly recommend Mr. Handyman for all of your needs. They are honest and won't do any job they are not comfortable with, and are not pushy. Their response time is incredible. Their price was very reasonable in my opinion, and I will be having Pete return to my home often to do other odd jobs that will need to be done. Again, I highly recommend Mr.Handyman, you will be very pleased with this company.

Glen and his team are always punctual, courteous, thorough, and clean. I will continue to use them regularly and encourage all of my family and friends to do so too!

Great guy. Arrived early (sat outside waiting to be "on time"). Got the job done quick, and installed my garbage disposal. Also took a look at my ceiling fan.

For the deck staining and sealing, there were several spots on my gazebo that were missed. The rep then came back and finished those spots after I pointed out the places that we're missed. Perhaps this was a miscommunication between the manager and the person performing the job. Maybe they thought he was finished with the job when he was not. The deck stain also ended up costing a bit more than the original estimate as I was informed that the deck took more stain than what was originally anticipated. I would have preferred to receive the actual cost up front. Overall good quality work was performed, however communication could use some improvement. Even though deck work can be dependent on the weather there were some days where nothing was being worked on even when the weather was nice. I would have preferred a call or text as to when I should expect them to come back next and what the estimated finish date would be.

It was a top quality job and went as expected.

Chad was 45 minutes early, which was great. He got right to work assembling the smoker my wife and I struggled with for over 2 hours. We just stood back and chatted with Chad as he put it together without needing any instructions. We had 2 other tasks for him. We had a ceiling fan that we couldn't change speeds. He told us it would be cheaper to just buy another one instead of him trying to fix it. He also told us the pitfalls of portable air conditioners. We received one as a birthday gift, and had no idea of how we would install it. When we buy a new ceiling fan, you can be sure we will call Mr. Handyman and ask for Chad!

Wayne and Larry arrived on time on appointed date. They were very professional. Larry has more than 20 years carpentry experience and Wayne is the firm owner. Both are technically competent craftsmen. They removed old window and patio door, hauled away both items. They discovered wood rot under old patio door and performed an excellent repair and water proofing of the area. Repaired window screens were completed earlier and delivered to me prior to work above. I highly recommend this firm to other Angie List members.

He began by going over everything I wanted done. He measured the shed and told me what type of wood to purchase. He would have gone and bought the supplies but I felt it was a better use of his time to work on the projects while I went shopping. I had prepurchased some supplies so that he could begin the work as I went shopping for the rest of the supplies. He looked over the outlets that were loose and was able to fix them without replacing them. He fixed the drain in my sink. He replaced some rotting boards on my shed and replaced the locking devices. He replaced two light switches that were broken. He replaced the pipe for the sump pump, my only complaint was that he did not replace the insulation that was surrounding the pipe that was exiting the house. He rehung a door in the basement that had come off the hinges. He was unable to assist us with a ceiling fan that was wobbling. He also cut a hole in the drywall to add a vent in the basement. He was very methodical in his work and completed all the tasks that I gave him. I had even added a couple that we had not previously talked about before he arrived. He accepted my coupon with no hassel and only charged a small amount for the supplies he used from his truck.

Electrical went well. He put a cat tree together for me but it wasn't tight enough and one of the pieces fell of and broke and the tree sways.

After 5 working days, stonework repainting was done over existing chipped paint that will never last or adhere after one cold winter. House was not power washed. Back concrete sidewalk was power washed instead (not requested). Paint used was of very poor quality, requiring multiple coats at a billable rate exceeding $65 per hour. Paint was applied in a very unprofessional manner (noticeable brush strokes, lines and edges uneven and over alternating colors. Back porch painting incomplete. Front porch and flower boxes trim in much lighter color (bright white instead of sand; request was for same color). Pool deck repainting was 1/3 completed, with visible brushstrokes and use of lower quality stain, requiring multiple coats at an hourly billable rate of $65 per hour. Gazebo deck restaining incomplete, brush strokes very visible. Gazebo screen door purchased at my own cost and pickup; attached at $65 per hour rate. Inside floor of gazebo restrained with edges incomplete (no paint at least an inch away from gazebo wall. 5 gazebo screens were the only job completed, taking an entire day at the same billable hourly rate. In addition to high billable hourly rate, a daily service charge of $45 was applied for every day of work (travel distance between Wheaton office location and my house less than 4 miles. After cumulative total bill exceeding $4k, I elected to cut my losses, and seek assistance from a more reputable provider, at more realistic rates based on complexity of work. Scott the technician tried his best to improve a difficult job. The "manager" also came by to see how Scott was doing and to see if I was satisfied with the work. The cost of the job was $20 under the estimate. It took approx. 4 1/2 hrs. He cleaned up after his work.

What stood out is their price and workmanship. Someone from Angie's List wanted $350 just to come out and Mr. Handyman of Hinsdale did it and it cost me $85. It didn't even take an hour for them to do it. I have saved a lot of money and I never thought of it. He came out, got on the ladder, he even put more hold downstraps that were already there so he made it even stronger.
