Rich is very knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to ensure you get the best result. For radon mitigation, the number one concern should be the health of your family. Rich managed to reduce my radon levels from 8 to 0.8 which exceeded my expectations. His crew is also hardworking and professional. Accurate Radon is not the cheapest but is the best value for money and I will gladly use them for other services like sump pump installation in the future. Highly recommend!

Rich was fabulous. He was very professional, punctual, and easy to work with. He is very knowledgeable about what he does, as well as a lot of other things, and I would recommend him to anyone. The work took him only two days and he stayed until the job was finished. Very impressed!
Description of Work: Rich installed a large radon mitigation system in our 3000 square foot home, replaced a sump pump, and installed a battery backup pump. He also discovered that our sump drainage line is broken, which we wouldn't have known otherwise.

When it comes to mitigating radon in a house, Rich Whisler is a detective, a scientist and an artist all in one. When Rich first came out to give me an estimate on a radon mitigation system, I thought he'd be in and out in 20-30 minutes, however, it was about 2 hours before he had come up with his attack plan for installing the system. And in the process, Rich taught me things about my new house that would have taken me years to discover on my own. He really thought through the best way to run the PVC piping to get the radon out of the basement and from under two slab sections of the house (garage and addition). In the end, the piping is very well hidden and not at all visible unless you are really looking for it. The exterior fan unit and discharge piping blends in really well with my house and is hardly visible from front yard and street. Now, let's talk about results - during the home inspection, we had a professional two-day, sealed house radon test run and came up with an average score of 17 pCi/L. With 4.0 pCi/L being acceptable, our score was pretty high. Now that all the work is done and the system has been operating for over a month, we're seeing average scores in the 2.5-2.8 range. The system is quiet and has run without issue so far. As a lot of radon comes out of the sump pits, Rich really knows sump pumps as well. I had him and his crew replace 3 old pumps and run new discharge piping for the backup pump in the primary pit. I talked with Rich for about an hour on the best pumps and backup systems to install and so far, I am very happy with the results. He also installed "The Silencer" quiet check valves and the annoying CLUNK i used to hear when the pumps shut off are gone. The only thing we hear now is the rush of water through the PVC pipe, but that is unavoidable as the main sump pit is directly below our master bedroom and the the piping runs right under the bed (the only way out of the basement). Lastly, Rich's entire crew was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. When the work was done, everything was cleaned up very well and they checked everything several times before leaving. I was educated on the proper operation of the radon system (minimal) and the new sump pumps. All the piping and wiring was buttoned up well and looks really clean and neat. I enjoyed talking to the crew about the work in my house, home repairs in general and other fun topics. I would recommend Accurate for radon mitigation, sump pump work and any of the other services they provide.
Description of Work: Accurate provided and installed a radon mitigation system for my house. In conjunction with the radon mitigation, I also had Accurate install new primary and backup sump pumps in two sump pits in my basement.

Phone calls were not returned. One email was returned with a promise to call, but it never happened. My neighbor (based upon my original recommendation) called Accurate and set up a meeting to get an estimate for his house. The estimator visited my neighbor, and then dropped in on me unannounced, and asked if I had time for him. I accepted him in and had a good discussion with him about the new routing. He promised to get back to me with an estimate, but I never heard from him again. Of the several radon remediation contractors I interviewed, he was the most knowledgeable, but the least responsive. Unfortunately, I will not be recommending him any more.
Description of Work: Accurate Radon provided me with an estimate for radon mitigation in spring, 2013. We did not proceed with the work because we were not comfortable with the routing of the radon piping or the negative aesthetics of an outdoor installation. We were impressed by the knowledge of the estimator. In the late spring of 2014 I came up with a new piping routing that would allow me to vent through my garage roof and called Accurate for another estimate of this plan.

Radon control is personally very inportant to me and is something I do not take lightly. The competition is very intense in this service area. There are entites that will provide an immediate quote over the web, based on the sq.ft., without knowing the interior construction and space constrains of the specific home. I do not understand how the others can do a credible job. Rich was more costly than the competition, but I felt very comfortible with his initial detailed review and his attention to detail, which I felt was worth the additional cost. Not only did he select the best possible position for the equipment, provided added insightful enhancements (additinal electrical plugs), he was very conscious of how the equipment fit in with the other untilities and the current ascetics of the building. He made it clear he was not there just to install the system and leave; he would provide a lifetime warrenty with yearly testing to assure that the radon levels do no increase in the future. All in all, I felt Rich (Accurate Radon) did an excellent job and I felt the additional money was well spent.

We had a great experience and are very happy. Since purchasing our house in 2009 we performed occasional long-term tests for radon. In late 2013 we found elevated radon levels in our home after we had installed new windows and added insulation. We educated ourselves about radon and called a number of firms on the list to quote for mitigation systems. While many were more than happy to quote a price over the phone, Rich and Joyce from Accurate shared their experience that every situation is different and their solution would be designed and priced accordingly. We look for this consultative approach when we work with any firm doing work on our house. Rich came out to review our house, our past long-term test results, further educated us about radon and how it can seep into the house, and how Accurate works with their clients. Rich is a professional, knows his trade well, and trustworthy. We received a quote and the design the same day, as well as paperwork Accurate would file with the state. We agreed on the price and scheduled the work. Rich and his two assistants spent approximately 6 hours to install the mitigation system and install the sump pump cover. The system draws air from under the foundation, and with a very quiet fan mounted on the outside of the house, pulls the air through a plastic pipe and out into the air. The outside housing is a nice fiberglass unit and you don't really notice it, nor hear it - just a soft humming noise. Inside the basement, the plastic pipe is in our laundry room where the J tube air pressure monitor is easily visible so we can monitor it. They are careful to not make a mess or be disorganized. The work area inside the house was neat and clean, as well as the work area outside with their truck and all the different supplies and tools. After the work was done Rich showed us all they did, went over all the paperwork that stays with the system, and records we should keep in our permanent files. He tested the system to see how much air was being drawn from under the basement floor, and recommended we have them come out once per year to maintain the system, and what we should do to monitor the system. We also discussed the sump pump systems we have and areas for future improvement. We'd like to thank Rich and Joyce and their great team. ***Update September, 2014. Our short term test was under 1.0. Long term test results just came back and were 0.9 for 93 day of testing.

Sorry, but we do not do radon testing so you must have us confused with someone else. As a radon mitigator, we are not allowed to test our own work nor do we have a license for testing. Please check your sources again before you give someone a bad review as it is very important to earn and receive good reviews on Angie's list as we strive to do.

I am in the process of purchasing a house and had a radon test done and found out that we needed to put in a radon mitigation system. At the last moment we found out that the buyer wanted to use a company that had a less than stellar rating on Angie's List. I called Accurate Radon and asked if they were able to come out the next day and install the system as time was of the essence and any delay could put our closing in jeopardy. Knowing it was last minute I expected Joyce to say that they weren't able to accommodate me; instead she told me she would talk to Rich and promised she would give me a call back. An hour later Joyce called and informed me that they would be out there that night to take a look at the home to see where the best place to put the system was and explain everything that was going to take place. I showed up to the house that night and met Rich and he explained the work that would be done as well as the warranty. Rich then said that he would have a contract emailed over to the sellers first thing in the morning and gave a start time for the following morning. Even though Rich had a job to finish up before starting ours he was there on time and got almost everything done that day so that it did not have to go into the following Monday. When it came time to pay there was a glitch on who was paying between the seller and myself which caused a delay but Joyce was able to squeeze us in first thing the following morning. Accurate Radon, I feel, went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy and even calmed me down when I lost my checkbook. I highly recommend Accurate to anyone who needs a radon mitigation system installed.

Rich from Accurate Radon came out to the house on the first visit to discuss the placement of the system and how the system operates. We discussed the best placement so that it works effective and it is out of sight. The appointment for install was to follow 3 weeks later and I asked if we can get it done sooner. The following week a appointment opened up and I was notified if I would like to have the service the following day. I jumped on it. Rich worked quickly and I barely noticed he was there. He was very meticulous in his work and the system runs quite and is not an eyesore like some I have seen and heard.

Very smoothly. Communication was timely and informative. Owner and two staff performed the job. Work plan was explained in detail before work began. They were even kind enough to change their plans somewhat mid-stream due to my need to take a half hour business call when they had planned to be boring a hole in the slab. Still completed the work in a timely manner, in accordance with original time estimates. Installation was professionally done, including proper caulking around ridges in a stucco exterior (keeping water away from the pump/fan assembly while still allowing stucco to dry to the outside when it inevitably becomes damp due to humidity along the drainage plane behind. This was a careful, well-planned and well-executed job.
Description of Work: Basement and under-front porch crawl space radon mitigation. Advise homeowner regarding alternative approaches. Complete and submit state paperwork to support a variance required for best possible installation configuration. Seal cracks between concrete slab sections. Install plastic membrane in crawl space and seal. Install 2 points of under slab suction including boring holes in concrete slab. Install one suction point in crawl space with exposed soil prior to covering with plastic. Install radon pump/fan assembly on side of house, in outdoor-serviceable position. Install PVC pipe conforming to all requirements for suction and slope to connect this all together and to vent expelled gas above roofline, 10 feet away from any doors or windows. Install pressure device to easily verify correct system operation at a glance. Instruct homeowner in correct operation and maintenance. Clean up area when work was completed. Supply short-term and long-term test kits.

He was great. He came out and repaired our radon abatement system. Our fan was broken and it was still under warranty so we just have to pay for the service and it was great. We paid $200 but that included a $75 radon test kit that sent me so I could test for radon. I didn't really did a price comparison so I'm not totally sure but I was pretty pleased with the fact that he actually didn't think it was under warranty and then he took the extra step to go back to make sure and actually it was so he called me and let me know that I owed much less than what I paid him and so that was nice.

The job takes most of the day but all the work was done very professionally, is high quality and the system works great. The test results went from 5.2 to 0.7. Rich cleaned up everything before leaving. He, and his helper, are very friendly and will answer all questions.
Description of Work: A spot near the center of the basement was chosen to drill the hole beneath the floor. 3" piping was routed out of the basement, through the garage exiting through a side wall. A fan unit and exhaust pipe were routed to clear the garage roof line. Open seams, cracks and the rough-in plumbing was sealed. Rich then contacted a testing business and they set up the test the next day.

We were very pleased by the results of our service. He was a bit late for our intial consultation but he called us personally several times to apologize and let us know where he was at and how long he thought he would be. He gave us several options to choose from to solve our radon problem. He obviously was a little late because his first appointment ran long due to being extremely thorough in his estimates. We ultimately decided to excavate the portion of the basement that needed attention ourselves which he tookinto account in his estimate but he did offer a reasonable solution had we decided to hire someone. This took several months but he not only held to our estimate he reduced the cost of it when he saw we had done all of the work. The technician was neat, clean and professional. My husband felt comfortable leaving the house for an errand while they were working. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. His price was very fair and comparable to other estimates we received. Our radon problem is solved and we know we can call if we have an issue.

We had tested for radon prior to phoning Accurate Radon. Our numbers were within the EPA acceptable range but still higher than we liked. Rich Whisler did a thorough tour of our house in order to determine how best to achieve our goal with the least impact on our rooms. The solution he put in place lowered our radon numbers but not quite as much as we had hoped. He returned and installed a larger fan free of charge. We appreciated his dedication to doing a good job and providing excellent follow up.

We did a Radon Home Test on the recommendation of a home inspector. Our readings came back from the lab extremely above the government limit of 4 pC/L. I got 3 quotes on the job. two were over the phone the only one that would come out to estimate was Accurate. Rich explined the causes of radon and the process of abatement in detail. Our jjob was somewhat difficult because we have a finished basement, but Rich came up with workable plan that met the venting requirements and did not affect the basement aesthetics. On the day of the job he and his crew were right on time (I had taken the day of of work ) and the three of them worked for a solid 8 hours to complete the job. They finished with a proper cleanup and clear explanation of the next radon test. The test results came back above the 4.0 limit (4.8) and I found that the system had stopped working. After running through a causal checklist over the phone, he sent one of his crew out and replaced the suction motor that had burned out. We re-did the test, and the results came back at less than 0.7, well within the safety limit. Rich Whisler and Accurate Radon are professionals in their field, and deliver on their promises. I would highly recommend them to deal with such a potentially dangerous health concern.
