Al came over on 6/21/14 and spoke to Knute. He said that Knute would have to pay $250 extra to get one tree trimmed. I, Knute's wife, along with Knute, decided that this was not acceptable. We think that $400 of tree services should be able to include trimming five trees. In addition, I listed 3 dates for service. Al could do none of them and said he had many people on the list ahead of me and could not do it in the next two weeks. Also, I text Angie's List today asking him what the $400 would buy me and he refused to answer me. He insisted that I call him. Not liking conflict, I text him back that I did not want to speak on the phone and that I just wanted to know what the $400 would pay for. He never told me and he said I could cancel. You should warn people to get estimates before buying "$400" worth of service when "$400" won't get 5 trees trimmed.

Mr. Rivas is very professional. After I purchased the coupon, he came out to go over the job and then gave me an estimate. It was more expensive than I expected, but Mr. Rivas is a very knowledgeable aborist and explained options for pruning and cut-backs. It was 3 weeks before he could schedule the job. He called the night before the service date and arrived with his crew right on time the next morning. We walked the property again to go over the plan and again when the work was completed. Everything was cleaned up impeccably. His trucks and equipment were clean and well maintained. His crew (3 including Mr. Rivas) was very professional, courteous and worked quickly. I was very pleased with the job, would definitely hire him again and recommend him for quality service.

I called 3 different providers to do the work. Rivas was the lowest bid, at $500. The most expensive was literally 3 times the price. I ran with Rivas. They came when they said they would come. They did the work quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up after themselves. They were polite and business-like. I was 100% happy and would use them again.

It went extremely well. Once he was contacted for an estimate on this job and also trimming of other trees in our yard, he came within two days. When we discussed what needed to be done, we decided that he could remove the walnut tree now and then wait until Fall to trim the other trees, so they would not become damaged or diseased. We had agreed on a date for the removal of the walnut tree, but it had to be postponed because there was a major electrical line running through it and ComEd needed to be contacted and we had to work with their schedule to turn off power. The day before the removal, Al Rivas contacted me, by email, to let me know that he and his crew would be arriving at our home by 8:00 am on the scheduled date to check out everything and get ready for the removal, they were here exactly on time. ComEd had told us that they could not turn off power to our neighborhood until 9:00 am and Al Rivas was here and was able to talk to the ComEd person to clarify all the details so they were both in tune. Al Rivas and his crew started as soon as the power was turned off and once they were below the lines, he contacted ComEd to let them know the power could be turned back on. I was very pleased that everything worked out as well as it did. After the tree was down and the stump removed, Al and his crew cleaned up the entire mess and when they had gone you could hardly tell that they had been here, except the big tree was gone. I will not hesitate to refer Rivas Tree Service to anyone. Again, he will be back in the Fall to trim 5 other trees on our property.

Al was great while he was here. He did not have great responsiveness and actually came by unannounced to give an estimate. We also had some difficulty with scheduling communication, but the actual work performed was fantastic. I was very pleased overall with the quality and value of Rivas and would work with them again without hesitation.

He came out and said that it is not something he is interested in doing and he would not be able to do that because he did not have the correct equipment and asked for me to call and get a refund.

Al is very professional. He had the best price. He and his crew came on time and finished the work on time. He called me to inspect the work when it was done. I would strongly recommend his company.

I'm very happy with the service I received from Rivas Tree Service (847-445-4862). They were working on one of my neighbor's trees when I approached them to get a quote. Al and his crew did the following: Tree and stump removal, brush removal, tree trimming. Clean up was spotless. While I was watching him trim, I noticed some stray branches had fallen into my neighbors yard. Before I could ask him to retrieve those branches, he'd already gone around the block to the other side and retrieved the branches from my neighbor's back yard. He used tarps whenever possible to collect the debris. Al really has a good eye for trimming. He turned an ugly mess of a flowering crab apple in to a beautiful work of art. Al is a certified arborist with 14 years experience.

Rivas was an excellent tree removal service. We had 14 dead trees in our backyard, and stumps of other trees left by previous homeowners. Rivas beat everyone else on price. Better yet - the company is very professional. They even went beyond what I was expecting by repairing divets in yard from the trees, and spreading the mulch created by stump grinding. I recommend Rivas and will be using the company again in the fall for tree trimming service.

Al was very responsive and did a great job of removing the tree and cleaning up all the debris from our yard after it was down. There was a delay in getting the permit because the city didn't have Rivas' EAB Certification on file, but once that was sorted out they were able to come out the next business day and take the tree down.

So far this experience has been good. Mr. Rivas has been quite prompt and helpful. The mistake here was mine. I don't know how I did it, but I purchase 2 coupons instead of 1 for a total of $400 instead of $200. I am in the process of scheduling work with Rivas Tree Service and have no complaints about that so far. Please send a refund for the second coupon. Thank you so much for your help.

The 6 trees (about 30ft tall) were completely removed in about one hour. There were two men working, one with a chain saw and one using the chipper. They left when finished removing the trees and came back an hour later with the stump grinder. They ground all 6 stumps away in about another hour. They were very fast and professional. They did everything we verbally agreed to in the contract. The yard was left clean.

We sought proposals from Angie's list providers to remove an old tree from our property. All three companies who came out were professional and very responsive. Since all the companies were good options, the final decision came down to cost. That is what tipped the scale to Rivas. I received a call back a few hours after the initial message. Al asked a few important questions and came to the property the next day to give a quote. Once we signed the estimate, they were out the very next morning. The tree was completely removed--not even a twig remained. If you had not known the tree was there before, you would never guessed it had just been removed. They left the area clean and tidy, removing any debris. My interactions with Al Rivas were professional. I would contact him again if we needed similar service in the future. I would also recommend that they be contacted if others required services such as this.

Al and his crew were punctual, professional, clean and safe. I recommend Rivas to anyone in the North Shore looking for quality work at a reasonable price.

Al and his team were fantastic. He was not the cheapest of the quotes we received for the removal of just the honey locust tree; however, for the bundled work, he was the best price. More important to us though was his thoroughness in explaining the project, his communications with us and the village, his team's efficient and tidy work effort, and the cleanliness of our yard at the completion. The team arrived early, confirmed each of the tasks, and worked tirelessly to bring down the massive tree. The project took all day and ended with 2 full trucks of mulch from the debris. Riva's Tree Service was professional, courteous, fairly priced, and had strong communication. I would highly recommend them to others and will definitely be a repeat customer if the need should arise.
