Description of Work: Water tank and regulator were acting up. They fixed it without having to replace the tank. I asked them to shock the well and they did that for us.

Description of Work: We hired these guys to replace the pump in our well 11 years ago, so when the pump went out again we called them back. This time they took advantage of us, WAY over-charging us. I agree that labor should be at least twice the regular rate on a holiday but they were ridiculous. They did an ok job, but I don't trust them at all. They left an estimate for a new pressure tank that was extremely high also.

Description of Work: They added air to my well tank and told me it was torn and needed replacement for $800. 5 months later it is still operating just fine. He tried to upsell me and I was suspcious enough to see if the tank would fail and he told me it would within days. I was disappointed that a family run local business would operate that way.

Hi [member name removed], When I added air to air cell I don't recall if the was leaking out of air cell at faucet when draining tank ??? At any rate I have never told a customer that the air would only last a few days. I tell them 6 months to a year ,they are all different. As far as a upsell I inform customers that there are bigger storage tanks than the current 5 gallon tank that you have to increase the life of the well pump. We are a honest family business for 92 years.. Scott Snelten -- Vise President

Description of Work: This was the third time I've used Snelten's as I've owned two houses that use pumps and they only last ten years or so. My current pump lasted over 14 years and Snelten replaced that one. I've used Sneltens three times over the last 25 years and have always found them to be responsive and professional and friendly. They always arrived on schedule, always were very helpful on the phone and I presume their prices are very reasonable. When you have no water due to a failed pump, you don't have a lot of opportunity to shop for the best price. I was always impressed with their timeliness and the work they did so I wouldn't think of using another company to do this type of work. Snelten's have been in business for three generations, so they must be doing something right and must be pleasing many customers.

We changed our pump from a ¾ horsepower to a 1 horsepower and had it lowered from 180 feet to 200 feet. When they were done, I asked Mark about chlorinating the well. He said it was easy to do and that I could do it by following the instructions on their website. I told him that I had wanted them to do it but I would try doing it myself. Luke asked if I wanted to have them put in their chlorine but I said I thought I could handle it. I asked Mark if there were any tips he could give me and he told me to pour the bleach down the side of the casing to avoid the brass fitting, make sure to rinse the fitting with the 5 gallons of clear water so it doesn’t corrode and don’t pinch the wires when putting the cap back on. Over Labor Day weekend, we followed the web instructions using 3 quarts of bleach (1 bottle, which I diluted) but the strong chlorine odor never came. We went out and bought pool test strips because we thought we were missing the odor. No luck. We added another bottle of bleach (full strength) followed by more fresh water but still no odor. We continued with the instructions anyway and let the water sit in the pipes for 2 nights and flushed out the system on Labor Day. But I was very frustrated with the fact that I never smelled chlorine at any time during the whole process. On Tuesday, I called Peter. He started giving me the address of the website when I stopped him and told him about my weekend and what I had been told when the installation was done. He told me that the guys should have given me better instructions because every well is different and mine is very deep. He said the water comes from the bottom of the well and the bleach is stuck on top along with the fresh water that I added; I needed to run the hose from the outside spigot back to the well and circulate the water until you get the odor after about 15 to 20 minutes. I told him that is not what the website says. He said he really needs to look it over and update it. He said that he’s had people tell him that they don’t smell the chlorine and then it shows up a couple of days later. (I have yet to notice it.) He also said that the guys will put chlorine pellets down the well when they replace a pump because by law they have to and it should have been done when they started up the pump. I told him that I didn’t see them do that and they didn’t tell me they had done any type of chlorination. (Mark only told me they would run the pump about 10 minutes until the water was clear as it was pumping out the calcium at the bottom of the well.) That being said, everyone was professional and friendly and Peter was very nice on the phone. The equipment installation was good but the chlorination was a nightmare and I’m sorry that they talked me into doing it myself. The chlorination headache is what keeps me from giving a grade of “A” and they should not be immediately directing customers to their website instructions.
Description of Work: They installed the following: Pump - $1,060 Wire from pump to existing exterior line - $400 Additional pipe section - $35 Pressure tank - $800 Pressure switch and gauge - $60 Misc. Fittings and valves - $75 Labor - $900 I called Peter Snelton for a well chlorination (I have iron bacteria) because another review said they had done a good job of showing the homeowner how to do it. At the time I asked them to check the cause of my drop in water pressure. The receptionist told me that chlorination instructions were on their website but I told her I wanted someone to come and show me how to do it. She asked me if I wanted a light chlorination or shock chlorination and I decided on shock chlorination. She also recommended that I do a light chlorination every 6 months. Al came to check things and said our pump was constantly running and he couldn’t tell if it was the pump or the tank. He said our tank was the original from 1977 and wrote up an estimate for a new pump, tank, switch, etc. because he said well components have a life span of about 10 to 15 years. As far as chlorination, he said I would probably only need a light chlorination and instructions were on their website. He also recommended that we don’t use pellets because it makes it hard to get the chlorine out of the well. His charge for the estimate was $105. The next week, Al, Mark (I believe that was his name) and Luke came to do the installation.

The owner came out and did the work himself. He took a great deal of time to explain how a well system works and advised how to properly care for our home system. I would not hesitate to recommend this business to anyone.

The holding tank for our well failed leaving us with no water in the house. I discovered this at about 5:20 pm and called Snelton, expecting to leave a message. To my surprise, the telephone was answered, and the person on the other end of the line asked me a number of troubleshooting questions to try to determine the problem. He then told me that he could get someone out to my residence the following morning, and would call between 8 and 8:30 the next morning. I was concerned about the time involved because I had plans to leave town early that afternoon. I shouldn't have worried. Mr. Snelton was at my house about 8:45, back with a replacement tank by 9:30, and finished and gone by a quarter to 11. His work was high quality. He was professional, friendly, clearly explained options, and charged me a bit less than his estimate. This is a family business, operating since the 1920s, and in its 4th generation of family.

We purchased a home with a well/septic system and we were getting that very strong "egg" water smell from both the hot and cold water in the house. Given how things have been going with repairs on this house, we were expecting to need some expensive system installed to deal with this problem. We were happy to learn about this simple, affordable process. Snelten's actually posts the "how to" directions on their website - but we wanted to have them do this the first time around. They were completely professional and I tagged along with the technician who explained everything he was doing and why. We had to close off certain valves to bypass water softener. We were prepared with gallons of bottled water to hold us over the 24 hours required. Thankfully, we were allowed to flush - but no other water allowed to run thru the taps. We were left with specific instructions on how to flush the chlorine out of the system after wards - and it worked like a charm. They recommend doing this each year to keep things clear.

Snelten did a really good job and was very responsive. They made a very stressful situation tolerable.
Description of Work: During some unrelated repair work not being performed by Snelten, our main water line into the house was broken approximately 1 inch into the foundation. Needless to say, water was gushing into the basement-a real mess. This occurred after hours. Snelten had been at my home previously, and I looked at one of their repair stickers and the HOME phone number of one of the owners was actually on the tag. I called the home number, got an answer, and they told me what I needed to do to shut the water off. They actually came out to the house within 30 minutes of my call. We needed to crack open the foundation around the broken pipe, which was accomplished by 9:30 pm that night. Snelten then worked on fixing the pipe until 10:30 pm so that we could have water.

The whole job took under 2 hours to complete. Peter and his assistant Todd came out and confirmed that my well pump had failed. They removed the old pump and replaced it with a used pump that they had on hand. The electrical circuit serving the pump had to be changed from 110 to 220 in order to work with the new pump so they did that as well. They also replaced the pressure switch. There was some damage done to the concrete block that covered the well room when it was removed.
Description of Work: They came out to replace the failed well pump. They worked with me over the phone to come up with an affordable solution. I called at 10 am and they were at the house ready to work by 1 pm.

They had excellent workmanship and was on time for the estimate. The workers arrived on time, very clean, removed cartons pumps were boxed in without asking and they came in at the estimate. I am very happy with the outcome.
Description of Work: They evaluated the proposition of a new pump and provided a less expensive fix by adding two 25 gallon storage tanks that provide excellent pressure.

WONDERFULLY RESPONSIVE, VERY PROFESSIONAL, EXPLAINED EVERYTHING THAT THEY WOULD BE DOING.
Description of Work: DUG A 5 FOOT HOLE NEXT TO OUR WELL TO FIX SOME CRACKED PIPE. WHILE THEY WERE THERE, THEY ALSO REPLACED A PIECE THAT WAS READY TO CRACK SOON SO THEY WOULD NOT HAVE TO COME BACK NEXT YEAR. CHARGED A FLAT FEE OF $700 PLUS PARTS, WHICH WAS LESS THAN WE EXPECTED. I CALLED ON MONDAY, THEY CAME OUT THE SAME DAY TO TAKE A LOOK, ORDERED JULE TO COME OUT RIGHT AWAY, AND THEY WERE HERE WEDNESDAY MORNING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. OUTSTANDING!
