Water was collecting at the bottom of the dishwasher, sometimes it flooded into the kitchen, then sometimes it wouldn't fill with water. Bill was right on time for the 9 am appointment, and he determined the water sensor float was out of alignment. He adjusted it, showed me how to make sure it was functioning properly in the future, and charge me only for the house call. Last year, when my dishwasher wasn't cleaning completely, Bill found an obstruction in the pump inlet, removed it with tweezers, and only charged me for the house call. A different repairman wanted to charge me $350 for a new pump! Bill also showed me how to clean the gunk out of the sprayers. Last year, when Bill repaired my washing machine, he showed me the part that was failing and how it had deteriorated by comparing it to the new part, and even gave me a discount since he had the part in his truck, ready to install. Bill is also always very cheerful and friendly.
Description of Work: Fixed my dishwasher by re-aligning the water sensor float. Previously fixed my dishwasher when the water was dirty by removing an obstruction with tweezers, rather than replacing the whole pump. Previously fixed my washing machine when it was making loud grinding noises, though I don't recall what part was replaced.

overall it was a bad experience.
Description of Work: Valley Applliance showed up b/c my refrig wasn't running. I found the tech to be abrasive and rude. He said he would be back in a few days with the part. Asked if it could be sooner as i had family in and no refrig. He called Marcone the parts supply store and they had the part on hand. He said he was to busy to go get it that day so i offered to go get it in order to save time. When i got there i paid for it and later called to let him know i had the part. He was upset i pd for it instead of charging it to his acct which i wasn't aware i was suppose to do so he dropped me and never came back. My mother- in-law was here at the time and couldn't believe how rude he was. The first question he asked when he came in was, "Did you even move the refig out to see what the issue could be?" Felt the lack of respect came from being a woman. My father has loved using this company, but i will never again.

Response from VALLEY MORTON APPLIANCE
First of all this matter did not happen in May. The scheduled call was Thursday July 7, 2011 between 10:00 and 10:30 am. The customer posted 2/8/2012. The same day the receptionist recieved a call from her saying she wanted to make sure we were the company that she didn't want to use again. The next day another customer alerted us to the fact that we had a bad rating on Angies' List. We checked and found it was her. We would like to respond. Bill arrived at the customers home at the schelduled time. When I talked to the customer to schedule the appointment, I knew by the symptoms that her refrigerator had a defrost problem. I instructed her to thaw the unit overnight as it would save her the cost of Bill having to do it. She said she would. Bill arrived and diagnosed it as the defrost heater. He carries several, but didn't have the one she needed and would have to order it. He told her he could be back Monday. She had company and wanted to know if he could finish Friday if she picked up the part. He told her it was a distance to go there and he would get it the next day. He had originally planned to take Friday off. She said she was going that way and wanted to pick up the part, so he agreed to finish Friday. Bill told her not to pay for the part, it would go on our account so we could make the profit instead of the parts house. She claims to have misunderstood this step, but while she was at the parts house the associate there called the shop and told us she was insisting upon paying for the part. They told her she wasn't supposed to, but she said she wanted to. The associate also said she had nothing nice to say about Bill. She called later and told us she had the part. We told her that sence she paid for the part we would not be doing the service. No further work was done and she was not charged for anything by us.

Our stove stopped working after a thunderstorm. The technician came and checked the stove, checked the price of the piece needed to repair it and gave us an estimate. He was helpful and friendly. I would use them again. The insurance company agreed to pay for a new stove.
Description of Work: They were very friendly and provided an estimate as well as ideas to propose to the insurance company.

This all happened within two hours on Monday 8 November 2010. The part came in and on Wednesday, November 10, VMA called me for a choice (MY CHOICE!) of time on Thursday, November 11, to repair my oven. (Wow, we can still have Turkey day!) VMA arrived exactly on time. My oven was dis-assembeled, the circuit board replaced, and the oven re-assembled without any hesitation or add-on to the time. I was also told my oven was no more than 10 years old. (I didn't know how old it was as the oven came with the house when we bought it four years ago.) The balance of the bill was paid right there in my kitchen via credit card. He cleaned up after himself and made certain nothing was left behind, including the old circuit board. I would call them again for another appliance repair. The telephone service was professional and pleasant.
Description of Work: I called Valley Morton Appliance and another company to get an estimate from each of them on a new circuit board and labor for my 24" built-in oven. Both companies called me back within the hour. I called VMA back and asked for a service date; I thought I would be looking at two or three weeks. To my very happy surprise I was told if the part comes in, they could repair it on Thursday of the same week! I chose Valley Morton Appliance as their estimate was approximately $85 less than the other company. I paid for the circuit board over the telephone (I found out while the tech was here that he had looked up the code [F7], serial and model numbers I gave him to confirm I told them the correct part to bring. I found that reassuring.)
