ABC Construction & Restoration

Re-roofed quickly, but we still have have a problem with water run-off from the roof. There is now a "lake" on the ground in front of my dining room window every time it rains (was not there prior). Apparently, the diversion hardware was not reapplied to the roof to divert the water or perhaps the holes at the top of my gutter covers may have been covered by the new roof tiles when they were applied. Whatever the cause, one person returned twice to attempt to resolve the problem, but it's still happening and they haven't returned again, or called, to ensure that the runoff has been alleviated. Last week we had .5 - .75 inch of rain over night in Peoria and my 20 gallon tub I have placed on the ground was overflowing from the runoff from the roof! not acceptable.

Everything seemed to go well until the day that the rep from their company was supposed to show up to help walk through the appraisal with the insurance adjuster. Their rep started trying to HIGH PRESSURE me to commit to using them. I was told they don't work for free and unless I was going to give them a commitment in writing over text that they weren't going to come out and talk to inspector and that I probably wouldn't get a fair deal if I didn't go with them, etc., etc... Now i might have fallen off the turnip truck, but it sure wasn't yesterday. There was no way I was going to commit to them just because they were willing to help with the claim, which the company I chose to do the work started talking to the insurance agent before I ever even committed to the job and when they finally agreed on a price I hired them to do the work.

It took awhile before ABC Construction and Restoration Co/United Construction came to do the work. We were not in a hurry, but it was over a month later after we contacted them and placed an Angie Deal payment of $99 for the work ($99 paid on 8/11/2014). The scheduled day of work ended up not seeing them either but we received a call the next day with an apology saying another job took longer than they thought. When they arrived there were two to do the work. The younger man did most of the work and the other was supervising. The work required the one man to take off our siding and place the moisture barrier and then put the siding back on. This took a good amount of the day for the sections they needed to do. Also they found that hornets had placed a nest of sorts under our siding for some reason and they weren't prepared for that (how could they...who would have guessed of such a thing?). Fortunately no one was stung and they got rid of them and finished the job. After they left I found nails all over from the siding that they had pulled (I am hoping they nailed the siding back up properly and that a nasty wind won't take it off) and they forgot to place my satellite cable back under the siding where it was before....hidden. I contacted them again and the next day someone came out and replaced the cable (I had already picked up all the nails I could find). I would recommend this company for it's prices and it's work but like most contractor companies you will need to have patience on the timing and completion of your job. It will be done right, but it might take a few calls to finally finish the job.

The initial visit on June 7th was satisfactory. I was told that John would be back within 2 weeks to replace some shingles around the can vents that had been damaged by a raccoon. No one ever came or called to reschedule an appointment. On July 14th I called ABC and requested the status on the repair. I was told that my inquiry would be passed along to John. Again, no reply. On July 30th I contacted ABC via email and advised them of my concerns. The next day I received a reply via email that I thought was rather rude. John did contact me later that day and arrived later in the day to complete my roof repair. He did a very good job and I was satisfied with the repair. ABC Construction needs to provide better customer service by keeping their customers informed of delays.

I asked them about a leak I had and I got nothing on that. I don't think the communication was there. I need to call them back again to get my other bids. The called and let me know that they were running late and they were very friendly. The office was very friendly and helpful.

There were 2 workers and they did a great job. The windows and all trim work was done to my satisfaction. They cleaned up all leftover pieces, and completed the job in a very good time period. I would recommend this company to anyone.

overall pretty well, the crew works well together, cleaned up, respectful, worked around the weather creating difficult conditions.

If you only read 1 review toady, this is the review you will want to read. Lets begin with my credentials. I am a veteran of he United States Marine Corps, a member of the National Honors Society and a graduate of Bradley University with Honors (Magna C U M Laude) With that being told, I originally had an appointment with ABC construction at 5:30 on June 21st. 6:00 came and gone and the appointment I had at 5:30, written on my calendar, was now crossed out and read and quot;no call/no showand quot; ...So,originally, I listed my experience with ABC as and quot;averageand quot; with a C on Angie's List. HOWEVER...the contractor that came out (John) saved me $12,800!! Yes, you read it correctly, $12,800. I will explain. See, my house incurred damages from the National Disaster we had in April (major flooding). Josh Banister, from Betterway Siding and Windows came out to give me an estimate. I told him his estimate will be for FEMA b/c of the damages. He said ok, then crunched some numbers, and then gave me an estimate of $12,800 for 12 windows. Then he said, and quot;sign right hereand quot; at the bottom. I hesitated and replied and quot;are you holding me responsible for thisand quot;? To which he replied and quot;No, this is just for FEMA, to make it look legit, to get it approved and to help you out.and quot; So, me (as the ignorant fool I was to this stuff) signed the and quot;estimateand quot;. Long story short,...FEMA said the damages were pre-existing (even though water was dripping from my windows). Pre-existing means FEMA is saying the damages were before the flood in April...and funding was denied. So, I called Josh Banister and w/ his and quot;estimateand quot; in my hand and I said, and quot;look Josh, FEMA is not approving this, I will have to chose a different contractor who is more affordable to fix my windowsand quot;, then I noticed it said and quot; WINDOW CONTRACTand quot;, so I asked, and quot;Is this a legal binding contractand quot;?? get ready for this....he said and quot;YES!and quot;and quot; oh snap! now it's on right?! I said and quot;Josh, I am a single parent, been raising my son on my own for 13 years now (I got full custody from the courts in AZ b/c his mom abandoned him Christmas of 2001) and I only make $18,000 a yearand quot;. He laughed at me and ridiculed me b/c of my income!! And made me feel as a indigent. He talked over me and didn't even care what I had to say!! I began to mention the BBB and the Attorney General and he hung up on me!! NEVER, I MEAN NEVER IN MY LIFE WAS I SO HUMILIATED AND RIDICULED AS THE WAY JOSH BANISTER WITH BETTERWAY WINDOWS TREATED ME!! So I called Betterway windows and siding Monday night (July 8th) and reached Mike Walraven. Although my experience with Mike was good, he was not correct! He told me it is insurance fraud if funds through FEMA are approved and then the customer chooses a different contractor. He told me that I have to re-submit a new estimate to FEMA for the contractor I chose. This is NOT TRUE MY FRIENDS. FEMA is not insurance! FEMA does not approve the contract and or estimate for the price on the paper! They go by market value according to the area you live in! For example, Josh Banister told me $12,800 and FEMA will say, and quot;ok, we approve you, but for the market value set price in your area which is $6,000and quot; my Point #1) they are ignorant (Betterway windows). point #2, they deceive. After Josh Banister hung up on me and after I talked to Mike, I said I am coming in at 4 tomorrow! Game on, right?! My friends, I tell you , you never want to show up the same time you mention, simply b/c they know when you are coming (they will be expecting you). SO...w/ that being said, and with a very lenient work place, I showed up at 3:00!!! :) I walked in, standing tall and spoke with Mike Walraven. He said I will be speaking with Dave Smith (owner of Betterway). I will say this, Dave Smith is for the consumer. However at this point I was so @#$! mad that I didn't care. Now this is where John with ABC Const. comes in. When John came out on June 21st he did his thing and sat in his van. As he sat in his van we began we began to talk. And out of nowhere he said and quot;don't sign anything for any contractor for any estimateand quot;. I was like OMG! I told him I signed a so called estimate from Betterway windows and siding, he said and quot;Did they show you a CONSUMER FRAUD PAMPHLETand quot;? I replied no, and he said and quot;then your are not held liableand quot;. So, as I sat in that office with Dave Smith (Tuesday of July 9th 2013) Betterway windows, I remembered what JOHN told me! I said and quot;what about the Consumers Fraud Pamphlet?? He said and quot;This oneand quot;? and pulled one out. I said and quot;YES! Josh never showed me thatand quot;, and Dave said and quot;and I have no record of you signing it, so you are not held responsible for this!and quot; and then, as i witnessed it and as it is written on my contract, Dave Smith wrote on all 3 copies and quot;I'm letting Home Owner Out of Contractand quot; signed Dave Smith . YES! YES! YES! Thank you John, thank you, thank you. John may of not been on time, but I'll tell ya what, he is HONEST, he is KNOWLEDGEABLE and above all I recommend ABC Construction!!. I apologize if comments are lengthy, but the truth had be told. John saved me from my ignorant ways. Without him I would of owed $12,800 and court fees! (the fine print on that contract even mentioned paying attorney fees and a lien on my house). Don't waste your time with anyone else, for me its ABC construction or no one at all!
