MJR Remodeling is a small, full-service remodeling business designed to handle the needs of homeowners with a personal touch. We strive to exceed the expectations of our clients and show them that not all contractors are the same. No job is too small, because you never know when the smallest job will forge a relationship with a client that will lead to larger projects. The majority of our work centers around bathroom remodeling and tiling, but we do a fair amount of kitchen remodeling, painting, and drywall. We do all forms of carpentry, as well as building custom cabinetry such as bench seats, shelving, or built-ins.

Description of Work: We hired MJR to re-tile a bathroom. One indicator of their quality work beforehand was the demand they were in, requiring a wait. The work Mark and his crew did was exceptional. Close attention to detail.

There were some issues with the drywall and painting being done right the first time by my employee. The customer was very unprofessional and would call me up yelling at me before I had inspected the work or billed them. I made sure the job was finished to their satisfaction and they still withheld money.

Description of Work: We had them paint our living and dining room walls. Very carefully done. And afterwards the boss made a special trip to inspect the result. First class job and outfit. (I don't remember the exact date)

The ceiling in the master bathroom is pitched and the fixtures were not able to be replaced by going through the attic. Mark had to cut out an area in the ceiling in order to install the light fixtures, and then had to replace the drywall that he had cut through. He did a great job repairing and taping the drywall, and then painted the ceiling (and cleaned up the mess as well). It is obvious that he is a perfectionist! Mark also thinks outside the box for solutions so he is also creative. We are looking forward to having Mark do more work at our home!
Description of Work: Mark replaced two can light housings and a fan in our master bathroom, and replaced all of the fluorescent fixtures in our basement with canned lighting. Mark also did rewiring in the basement and set up shelving in a basement closet.

Mark had a couple of ideas on how to fix the doors. He said that he would write up a proposal in the next few days. I felt comfortable with him during the meeting. He had all of the tools he needed to measure the unit, and he listened to my concerns and objectives. I thought it was a good sign that Mark asked questions and discussed his ideas with me. I was looking for a practical and neat solution. He mentioned that he would have a big project over the course of the next few weeks and asked whether I was able to wait fort this project to start. I said that I could wait for a couple of months. At that point, I was still collecting bids for this project. Mark was busy with the other project, and I reminded him about the proposal about a month later. He quickly followed up with a proposal after the reminder. Although Mark's proposal was slighly more expensive that the other proposals, I observed that he is a perfectionist, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable and that he was likely to complete the project on schedule. In the end my instinct about him was correct. Although we had a slow start during the proposal stage, Mark came through as a superb professional and skillful carpenter during the actual project. He is knowledgeable and resourceful. The doors he built, fit perfectly. The quality of Mark's craftmanship is high. He ensured that the doors were perfectly installed, lining up in places. These are rail and stile recessed panel doors with full overlay hinges that he builed. Nobody would be able to guess that they were not the original piece because Mark did a good job matching the wood to the main unit. I noted that he built the doors in his workshop instead of hoping to have a space to do it in my place. He polished them with lacquer before bringing the doors to my place. He also thought of a new way of attaching the shelves by using shelf pins. In the end, my piece of furniture looks better than it looked when the glass doors were installed in the original unit. In addition to fixing the doors, he also applied a coat of poly to the cabinet and bed frame. Mark is punctual and organized: He shows up on time, brings all of his tools and materials, and cleans after with a vacuum cleaner. He finished the project within the timeframe he had identified. He was efficient. He is quick and dexterous. When faced with unexpected complications, he has knowledge to come up with a solution. He is also responsive when you e-mail or text him. Mark is also personable and is attentive to what you want out of the project. I am detail-oriented myself and was glad to find this in a carpenter. Attention to details and perfectionism in carpenting are key, in my opinion. I found out that he does remodeling. Because I have a project in the bathroom, I asked him to take a look. He had good ideas about how to fix that also. And I am considering hiring him for that project.
Description of Work: Mark Ladendorf, the owner of MJR Remodeling, was recommended to me by a colleague. He apparently had done a great job for them. As scheduled, Mark came out to take a look at the scope of the work and to discuss his ideas on how he could fix the unit. He came when he said he would. In a nutshell, the project was to fix a custom-made entertainment and storage unit in one. A while back, glass doors have become inoperable and had to be removed, exposing the content. The look of the room depreciated dramatically as a result. So, when hiring a carpenter, I was looking for both creativity and expertise. Both were needed to figure out what to put in place of the glass and to improve the look of the unit. I also asked Mark to sand down a marple bed frame and apply a coat of polyurethane. The gist of the main project was building and installation of 4 maple rail and stile panel doors with full overlay hinges and with handles.
