the windows leaked in spring i got mold in the walls. wen i stoped in a man at the counter said maybe it is the roof or other reasons. he made lots of excuses and never offered to come out. finaly john tobin said he will take a look. he said he will bring a camera and a calk gun? three calls later three no show! . i called the manufacturer they sent out a guy who made more excuses and said there was some questionable calk on the stone sills. I had a masonry restoration co, come out they removed the sills and found that the window installer tore out a section of the wall flashing. also did not use a flashing under the window. the windows leak at the snap in mullions . the water leaked into my walls no one will do any thing. i had to pull out walls in 2 rooms clean, kill the mold and repair my house i also had to calk the windows at the mullions to stop the leak it is ment to be calked there an considering i paid 3000$ for new windows they look bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a set of windows installed in 2001 (approximate cost $10,000). This fall the seal in one of the windows failed. We called to see about having it fixed (we knew it was not a warranty). On our first contact they claimed they never put the windows in and did not do that kind of work. Finally we were told they would check if a replacement window was available (after ? 3 phone calls). They did not call back and we called at least 2 more times. Each time was the same story; they would get back to us. If you use them, you can probably assume it will be a one time only proposition unless the second job is of significant charge. I certainly would not recommend them nor use them ever again.

It's been awhile since we had our Windows installed but they were punctual and did a good job. Things were done when they said. I do remember it was a shock to have the house opened up like that, but it was worth it. 7 years later I still am very happy with the Windows. We have had no problems with them. As a bonus one of the cranks on the window broke, I brought them the broken part, and they gave me a replacement part (no charge).
Description of Work: The provider replaced all the Windows in our house in 2005 and installed them on our addition.

Seven months ago, February 2013, I ordered a sliding patio door. In May, Gerard Tobin installed the door, however, many fixes are still needed, but, months later my calls and emails go un-addressed. It?s now almost October! The sliding door came with a screen door that was coming apart at the bottom, since the screen was cut too short for the frame. Not Tobin?s fault, they promised to fix it, but haven?t. The sliding patio door came with a huge handle with no opening to grab it. I did not choose this handle. It looks like a big fat stainless cocktail shaker, and it?s almost impossible to open. They promised to replace it but, haven?t. Gerard Tobin had to remove my very expensive sliding plantation shutters in order to replace the patio door. He assured me everything would be fine. But, he re-installed the shutters lop-sided, with a huge gap at the bottom narrowing to none at the top, yet, he calked everything anyway, thinking no one wouldn?t notice. However, because the shutters were installed badly, they no longer close! They promised to fix this but, haven?t. The inside trim had to be taken off to install the new patio door. Again, Gerard assured me it would all be re-calked and re-painted. There are now several gouges in the walls above the door, and on both the sides of the trim as well. They promised to fix this but, haven?t In fact, I have been emailing and calling Tobin Millworks for almost 5 months, since this door was installed in May. Only after I finally CALLED AMERICAN EXPRESS and took back the 2nd $1000 I paid Tobin Millworks, did John Tobin evencall me back!!! He was unaware of the screen and other complaints, yet, I have been emailing him directly. Finally, John Tobin set up an appointment for his brother Gerard to fix everything on a Saturday (my only day off).....but, they never showed up! When I called, Gerard told me his son has football on Saturdays and he couldn?t make it!?! OMG! Football season is more important than customers, or the repairs that Tobin Millworks caused months ago? I wish I had used THE DOOR STORE instead! This has been a nightmare. Never again!

We had a front door installed and they installed it wrong. It is not level and the lock is wrong. We paid for them to stain it as well, but he has never contacted me back or come back to stain the door.
Description of Work: We used them to install a front door and also to stain it for us.

They were very thorough and informative. They are someone that I am still considering to do the work. It was all very positive impression. They provided me with different options and time frames, which was all very good. He answered a few of my questions since then so, they were very accessible. I am considering the estimate keeping in mind everyone else’s. He was uninformed on one thing that kind of irked me. Prior to siding they have to deal with dryvit, he was not familiar with what dryvit was. Maybe because he was a door guy but I thought he should be more familiar with exteriors.
Description of Work: I used the services of John Tobin Millwork Co. to give an estimate for front door replacement. They came out about a month ago to provide the estimate. They quoted $4000 for the front door and a sidelight as everything was ripped out. I have had three other quotes and they are all about the same. They said the same thing, which is why we have not done the project because I think it could be done much cheaper.

I have used their service in the past. They have been replacing our windows 4 to 5 at a time for the last 4 years and we have got one more set of windows to do this year. We have a 75-year-old house and we just need windows, so we have been going through a few at a time. He has got an older Chicago home and he has worked with a lot of home. They were able to come in and they measured up each window. They did a very good job. They have an excellent crew. They were not the cheapest out there, but the products he is selling and the service he is rendering is definitely very high. Their work is fantastic. They are especially good with homes. They are specialized in using a good quality tree and in wood work for windows. They have also done two exterior doors for us in the garage in the past, the entry door and the back door. They have done an excellent work on our doors also. They actually had to build a frame and measure it out and hang the door and that was a work of art. We had a barn door and there was an opening. They just kept chipping small pieces of wood in to it to make the opening small enough to fit the door. They had nails and wood and they could have just nailed a wood, but they did not do like that, which was good. They were not happy to finish with the job until I said I am happy and finished with job. They did not just stop and drop or in a big hurry to get in and get out and get the job done. They were very understanding. They were very professional. They will tell you what is going to happen and you have to touch up some paint and plaster here and there and they show you everything. They did not come in and do a rip out kind of thing. They took great care. They never had to come back for a patch up or repair of anything. They just do things right at the first time. They are most responsive and accommodating for our schedules. I would use their service in the future too.
Description of Work: I used John Tobin Millwork Co service to replace our kitchen windows (3) and our storm door. As a repeat customer of Tobin's I can only attest to their work and as usual they came through. We replaced a sagging / squeaking storm door with a superior Pella unit with twin panes of glass and a screen which rolls up into the door so no more dogs poking their inquisitive noses through it and in the winter no more remembering to take out the old unit. What made this section of our remodel process wonderful is the new double window in the kitchen where two side by side windows with a 6" center brace (hiding the window ballasts) was replaced with Anderson windows which reduced this to a 2" frame and what a difference in brightening up the kitchen. And to boot, some old soft pine was replaced with gorgeous oak and trimmed in so there were no gaps in the sills and cabinets (a prime dust catcher). Chris and crew were professional and patient with the family and dogs eager to help in supervising. A rear kitchen/porch door frame was also installed and the transom never worked better after they re-aligned the crank. I am gonna miss that creak and squeak (not). What also impressed me was that for the first time in years a door bell which did not work on the back door suddenly worked (no miracle as the crew capped the storm door frame and found a wire had been knocked loose when the house was sided 8 years ago and that contractor never got around to fixing it. This may ramble but as I review the work I can't help but admire the job and the attention to detail. Thanks Gene, Chris and the crew at Tobin Mill Work for another job well done.
