+ -1 moreExcellent work! The table has a parquet top that was damaged from every day use. The chairs were sticky. Fred picked up table and chairs and returned them - restored them to perfection. They look like new. The price was very fair, based on other estimates.

+ -1 moreThere was a small scratch of some sort on my antique chair and I called this guy and he fixed it up for me. He did such a nice job that I called him to fix to get some work done on my dining table and he did a nice job on that too. The pedestal was loose on the dining table so he actually took it with him. He repaired the pedestal brought it back and reinstalled it on the table. If I need him I will use him again. I just needed somebody to do the job, I found him and he did a good job.

+ -1 moreInstead of buying a new table and chairs, we decided to have our current table repaired and refinished. The table and chairs are like new. Fred put a coating on the table and chairs and they are now water repellent... so really, better than new. He also added new sliders to the bottom of the chairs so they do not scratch the floor. It took a little extra time to get the table back; however, Fred kept in touch. Worth the wait.

+ -1 moreI called Fred again in Feb 2014 to repair drawer he installed in the table (it was not extending fully). He made an appointment with me for the following week but didn't show up. I called him an hour after appointment time (10 am) and he said he didn't remember making the appointment but said he'd come out on his way to another appointment. He did show up and repair the drawer (took only a few minutes). At that time I asked if he refinished kitchen cabinets and he said he does do that kind of work. He suggested I call later to make an appointment for an estimate for the cabinets. I made an appointment about a week later and he never showed up nor did he answer his phone when I called within an hour of the appointment. Giving him the benefit of the doubt (again) as I recall I called the next day with no response that day either (or ever for that matter). He's a pleasant, very competent refinisher but recently does not answer phone calls or return messages. I can only think he just doesn't want to refinish kitchen cabinets. Sorry that he never called back as his work is quite excellent
Description of Work: In 2011 I had Fred refurbish two wood kitchen spindle back benches that were looking a bit worn out (at least 30 years old) and he also repaired the wood supports on the bottom of the benches. (300.00) He did a marvelous job and I later had him install a drawer on the kitchen table as well. (125.00) Drawer was great too although I think it should have been made a full extension drawer as the lip of the table prevents full access to the inside of drawer. Not that big a deal but probably would have been a better idea. He refinished the benches at his worksite and did pick up and deliver the table (no cost to me).

Excellent communication and a fair price. I would use him again and he has very high quality work!!! He is a true craftsman.

Fred did have a family emergency during the process and had to be away from his work for a few days, but upon his return he missed his first delivery schedule. When he did arrive he was friendly and professional. Despite minor flaws I would use him again.

He just delivered it this morning, on time, and it's even better than I had expected. I will definitely use his services again. + -1 moreI do not know if they do fine furnishings. I could not get anyone to even come out. He came out. I did not think that he over charged me. Everybody else wanted a lot more. It took him a couple of days to call me back and then he came out that afternoon. He was very honest with me. He attached the leg, and then he came back the next morning, took the vice off of it, and fixed a scratch on it. I thought it was very good. I would use him again.

+ -1 moreI was very pleased with the entire process. I had originally asked for an estimate to refinish the top only, which was $ 300. When I dropped the table off, Fred said he could refinish the whole table for $400. The estimated time to do the work was two weeks, and it was finished in just under that. Fred did a fantastic job on the table. It looks like new.
Description of Work: Fred refinished a Stickley coffee table. He completely stripped the worn finish and re-stained the entire table.

+ -1 moreOverall, I was very pleased and happy to work with Fred, who was very knowledgable and helpful in restoring my furniture. I plan to have him work on a few more pieces in the near future.
Description of Work: Fred offered to come to the house to give me an estimate on several wood pieces (some old) that needed a makeover. I was most interested in having a 100 year old oak desk restored that had been mistreated in recent years. I love the lines of the desk, but the beauty of the wood had disappeared and needed to be restored. When Fred saw the desk, he was very postitive about being able to bring it back to life. The desk had to be totally strippped and refinished. When Fred returned the desk to me I was amazed how beautiful it looked. The finish seems very durable, which is another plus for having it refinished. The desk was from my grandmother, so I decided it was well worth the money since I plan to keep it in the family for a long time. Another piece that Fred refinished for me was a smaller job, but also, well worth the money. My coffee table top had been damaged in a small area and other than that, it was in perfect shape. When Fred looked at it he said it would be better to refinish the whole top rather than trying to match the stain to repair just the damaged area. I agreed and was very happy with the finished product.

+ -1 moreFred came to my house within an hour after my phone call and gave me the quote and took away the desk. He brought it back in probably 4 weeks just as promised. The desk was totally re-built and refinished more beautifully than I ever saw it in my lifetime. Really nice guy, very personable and may have charged more than I wanted to pay, but the finished product has the wood grain brought out more than I ever knew was possible.

+ -1 moreFred said it would take about 2 weeks and it did. He managed to remove the extra stuff on it without resorting to using veneer to cover up the defects. The piece looks beautiful, and finally lives up to our expectations of how we initially envisioned it.
Description of Work: We've had an antique linen press circa 1985 for about 25 years. Somewhere along the way someone defiled it by adding some bric-a-brac on the doors. It was stripped down to the original wood, which wasn't very attractive. Fred stripped all the wax off, removed the extra decorations, and stained and refinished it.

+ -1 moreFrom the initial call to Fred during which I received answers to all my questions, to the moment my repaired chair was carried out to my car, my experience as a customer was perfect. Not only did the requested repair get done in a timely fashion for a reasonable price, but Fred also noticed that another leg was loose and he tightened that AND also did some extra fastening down of some loose leather cording without even mentioning it to me or charging me extra. Excellent professional service!

+ -1 moreYou can tell Fred takes great pride in his work. His prices are very reasonable. You can't go wrong with him. He needs to put more "before" and "after" photos on his website because what he does is amazing.
Description of Work: EVERYTHING Fred has done for us is beautiful and his prices are very reasonable! His workmanship is exemplary-he's stripped, stained and/or repaired chairs, an antique bookcase, a desk, and a rocking chair. I inherited my parents antique silverware case and asked him to refinish it-it had scratches and was dull. I was very hesitant since it was lined with velvet and couldn't figure out how he could strip it and stain it without damaging the velvet. He told me not to worry. I shouldn't have worried since it came back with not a drop of stain anywhere and it looked brand new. He has done solid oak doors for a friend and those also are beautiful.
