I spent $10000 on that work. The work went very well. He did exactly what he said he would do and when he said he would do it. He was completely honest with me about any problems that could come up. He stuck to the budget and the time frame. He did a good job.
Description of Work: I used Chris Kosecki Construction Inc. in February this year to remodel my bathroom.

I had a previous install that went really bad. Most of the cabinets had already been installed. I hired Chris to undo and re-do the kitchen cabinet instal l(minus the island). Per my request, Chris came in and set up masonite on the floor to protect the new and, very fragile, hardwood floor. I was very happy about how he did that. He and his partner quickly and efficiently uninstalled and reinstalled all cabinets and pantries, taking care to level and straighten each one. I was impressed. As someone who was new to working on construction projects, I didn't know that I had to tell the contractor ahead of time to stop working when defective materials (island veneer, corner bead, and cabinet doors) were found. I didn't know that I would have to visually inspect and physically measure the material before it was installed to prevent installation of defective material. Consequently, it was installed...the island veneer and corner bead were glued in and could not be removed easily, so the manufacturer decided to comp me with fake doors to cover the poor quality veneer panel. I didn't know that I would have to pay additional to correct the situation after the inadequate materials had been installed. The previous contractor created the knee wall for the island and it was not level. Chris leveled the island top, but did not back fill the space, so the decorative quarter round had nothing to adhere to; hence, was floating. on one side I didn't know that I would have to tell him to backfill the gap. When he came to fix this, the quarter round sustained a crack. Post-inastallation, we noticed that one of the pantry doors was hung at a different height than the other. There was @3/8" difference. It took several months to get him back to correct this. Chris is easy to talk to, and does a good job at a good price, but you must be there to watch everything to make sure it is done to your expectation because you will probably have to pay to have it corrected. Be very specific about what you want up front; think about all possible worse case scenarios. discuss them and you will have fewer problems. This was my first project, so I didn't realize that I had to spell out everything. I thought that these were things that would get flagged and we would discuss the issues as they came up.

This man is Chicago's best kept secret as far as I'm concerned. We were so happy with his work that we tipped him. After having been burned a couple times by other contractors my wife and I were determined to find someone that we could trust with all of our projects. We were referred to Chris by a friend of ours who had hired him previously. We had him give us an estimate, which was well below other estimates; we had already had contractors bid at nearly 4 times Chris's quote, most of whom told us it would take twice as long as Chris said it should. Having been burned by a low-baller before, we initially decided to get some more quotes, but none of them were within our tight budget. Since we had gotten his name from a friend, we followed up with Chris - asking him lots of questions and requesting referrals, which he gladly provided. A couple of his referrals responded enthusiastically within the hour by sending me pictures of his work, recommending him without reservation. Chris also offered to let me see him work first hand on another bathroom remodel he had been hired to do - it was clear that he did quality work and was respectful of the space he had been entrusted with. We finally decided to hire him, so he sent us a list of the materials we would provide. Once we bought them and picked up what we could, Chris offered to pick up the graywater toilet we bought, for no additional charge, and provided the fan and vent at cost. Chris and his assistant were prompt, efficient, and finished ahead of schedule. Chris kept me updated on his progress frequently throughout each day, and let me know about an issue with our dated electrical work that caused a slight deviation in the plan after he spent hours trying to make it work according to the original plan. Along with his assistant, Chris did all of the work himself and did not subcontract any of the work out. He kept his workspace clean (though he did leave some of his tools during the course of the project, which was not a problem as the unit was empty) and removed debris at the end of each work day. Also, for no extra charge, he installed a ceiling fan for us, and took a look at two other ceiling fixtures that had been malfunctioning. He finished this high quality job (and all the extra work we threw at him) in 2 and a half days, when other contractors told us it would take them much longer. This man deserves every cent we paid him (and then some). Overall, Chris is a very competent and honest contractor, who loves his work. My only reservation in submitting this report is that it may help to make him too busy to work on all of the other projects we have waiting for him. UPDATE: There was a leak in one of the pipes he soldered behind the wall of the bathtub. We did not notice it immediately, so it was probably a bigger problem than it needed to be. Chris was prompt in fixing the leak and was honest about his mistake. I have hired him since then without any issues, and he has responded promptly to my emails and requests about other jobs. I would still highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel Remove tile in tub area and plaster; install cement board for tile underlayment Remove old tub faucet and install new Install tile in tub area up to top of window, tile window jams and sill Remove old vanity, install new vanity, top and faucet Remove vanity mirror and light, install new Supply and install exhaust fan, vent and wire to separate switch Remove old toilet and install new Install toilet paper holder and towel bars Install ceiling fan
Chris listens to his customers carefully and performs their requested services exactly as specified. He is very knowledgeable in the fields of carpentry, wiring and cabinet hanging. He did some work for us in our former house in 2004 - installing a garbage disposal and tiling our kitchen backsplash. Chris does careful work and cleans up the job area thoroughly when leaving for the day.
Description of Work: Chris installed a new bathroom door which opened outward instead of inward; makes a small bathroom feel much less claustrophobic. He removed the old bathroom ceiling and installed a new drywall one. He installed a new vent fan, a new can light, a new vanity mirror and a wall cabinet. He also cut a hallway door shorter, so that it would close better over high pile carpeting.

Chris is a laid-back guy who runs his business with tons of integrity. His workmanship is good and he handled all the details putting in Woodmode cabinets, as well as my sink, dishwasher, range and vented micro-hood installation in a completely professional manner. He cleaned up after construction work every day and answered all my questions about the logistics of gutting a kitchen and was very reassuring, and then lived up to my expectations. Chris also had an assistant whom he was patiently training, and who he oversaw completely. I trusted Chris totally and would not hesitate to have him to work in my condo in the Loop while I was not at home. He can also suggest vendors for cabinets, tile and marble that he has relationships with if you are interested.
Description of Work: Contracting work for kitchen gut: demo cabinets, hauled away appliances and debris, removed backsplash tile. Installed cabinets, appliances, sink & lighting.
