to figure out what we are going to do for dinner for us and our kids. He keeps telling us we need to sign this otherwise they don’t get paid, pressuring us to sign it. In hindsight I wish I would have stood my ground and told them to come back on Thursday and we’ll finish it up, which would have given us a chance to talk to the project manager, who again we still have barely heard from and still hadn’t made it out to the property, and take a good look around the house to make sure everything was good and finished. Instead I signed it just to get rid of them for the day, hoping to talk to the project manager later. We waited for AAA to call us and they didn’t call us until about midday on Friday. The project manager said some version of “So it sounds like they are about 30 minutes from finishing up” and I was dumbfounded. I said no, they finished Wednesday evening and no one has been over to our house the last 2 days. He seemed very confused and I told him I would like him to come out to the property so we can talk about some of the issues we have and want fixed before we consider this project done. Among some of the issues: Retaining wall was knocked over, some missing areas of siding, garage door trim work was terrible, an outside outlet no longer worked, nails and debris all over our yard, some sloppy siding work in areas, nail pops inside our house, and as far as I could see NO BUILD OUTS FOR THE WINDOWS. He came out the following Monday to look at the issues and did say they would drop the build out charge since they didn’t do it (obviously) and said they would work with us on the other issues to make sure everything is to our satisfaction. He asked us if we could pay the 2nd half, or even just part of it at that time. I said no we won’t be paying the 2nd half until the work is completely done. So over the next few months we work with them to address all the issues. Someone came out and fixed the missing areas of siding, some came and fixed the nail pops, and someone came to fix the retaining wall. But about a month after the original work was done we received a note left wedged in our door. It was from the subcontractor company and they said they need to get paid and that we need to talk to/pay AAA so that they can get paid for their work. At the end of it they threatened that if they don’t get paid they will remove the siding from our house. I immediately call AAA and tell them about the note and email them a picture of it. They said they will talk to them and that threatening customers is not who they are. We did not hear from AAA the rest of the day. The next day I called them back to ask them what happened and what they did to address this. They said they talked to the owner and told him it’s not acceptable and that they will get paid when the issues they cause are fixed. A couple more days went by and as I thought about it and realized the issues probably wouldn’t be fixed for a couple more weeks I decided to call the police to let them know about the threat as I felt AAA response wasn’t adequate. So at this point the police have been involved twice, which is about 2 more times than I ever thought was necessary for a siding project. 3 months after the original work all the issues were finally fixed. The project manager comes back over to make sure there aren’t any more issues and to collect the final payment. I told him that I thought given the issues and difficulties we experience that a discount on the original amount was appropriate. He said he thinks that’s fair but he can’t make that decision, so he went back to his car and called the office to see what he could do. He came back and said that he talked to the owner and that he said he wants the full amount since the work has been done (did he even call anyone or just sit in his car? I’ll let you decide for yourself). So we spent the next 5-10 minutes expressing our extreme disappointment, as throughout this entire process we had been extremely patient and understanding. We never yelled or cursed at them, and tried to meet them where they were. But the bottom line is they hired an incompetent subcontractor to do the work, had absolutely no oversight on them or their work (didn’t even know when they actually finished the work), had extremely poor communication throughout the process and throughout 2 different police incidents, and most of these issues wouldn’t have happened if they had a project manager that was halfway competent in their job. But I paid the other half and signed the contract. The project manager said he’s sorry and doesn’t think this is right and that he’ll talk to the owner again the next day and see what he can do. He said he’ll call us back the next day to let us know. If you’re still reading this you already know that he absolutely did not call us back the next day and we haven’t heard from them since. At this point I’m just glad it’s all over.
