25 years experience of window repair for windows installed at houses and buildings under construction also home window repair for homeowners who may have window warranty issues, a need for replacement glass, or window adjustments. We also handle Door Service which includes installation, replacing locks, and side lites.
Description of Work: Illinois Window Service replaced the glass in three windows - two casement type windows and one door glass pane in a wood door with five glass panes. The replacement of the glass in the door was especially good because moulding in the door had to be removed without damaging it. The door came out very good. One criticism was that we had a communication problem. The first time I called I left a voice-mail. After if not being returned for two weeks, I called again. Joel told me that he always returned his calls, but did admit that he had gotten other comments about calls not being returned. After I received a written proposal for the three windows, I signed an acceptance line on the proposal, scanned it and sent it back with a note in my email to proceed. After not hearing back for a week, I called and Joel indicated that he hadn't seen my acceptance, maybe one of his employees had opened it. |Overall the work was done very well, Illinois Window Service personnel were very pleasant, and once we got past the communication issues, the job went smoothly, including scheduling of the visits to measure for the new glass and the visit to do the installation.

The interior window repairs were completed satisfactorily and in a timely manner. The worker replacing the non working window jams on the inside of the house was very professional and easy to work with. The exterior trim repairs were substandard and not done in a professional manner. In cases where deteriorating wood needed to be replaced, instead of replacing the entire piece the worker cut a section out and attempted to fit a replacement in the open space. In a number of these repairs the replacement piece was not the correct material or did not fit properly and excess caulk was used to fill the difference. This type of repair leads to two issues, it leaves the repair with additional and unnecessary joints which increases the risk of water infiltration and failure. It also looks bad, which a coat of paint can't hide. The owner of the firm did not inspect the finished work, and has not returned calls or emails.
Description of Work: Contracted to fix interior window slides and replace damaged exterior wood trim around windows.

They lost measurements. Took months to get an estimate back to me. And only gave me an estimate on three out of the four windows I requested. As this company is the primary Marvin Windows Repair company I would discourage anyone from buying Marvin windows. Anderson Window on the other hand does not charge to do estimates and has the repairs done within a month.
Description of Work: The provider is the repair representative for Marvin Windows. I have two custom Marvin windows that need repair. The company said that they charged $98 to come out and do an estimate for repair. I realized that I also needed some new windows. I asked it they could give me an estimate for four new windows and if they charged to do a estimate for new windows. I was told that they would deduct the cost of the service visit if I bought new windows. By the time they got back to me with the estimate for the new windows (this spring) they had lost the measurements for the repairs. So I have spent $98 for nothing. I want a refund.

I called maybe 15 window companies to replace a custom window that was 38x62 (that was within a wall of 9 windows. The wall of windows is ~10 feet wide and 15 feet tall). I heard 10 different explantations -- some companies said I would need scaffolding, some said I would need to replace the entire wall which would cost $20,000. Its ridiculous how lazy some contractors are. They aren't willing to do anything outside of the box. Don't give up calling people. Don't listen to everyone bad mouth homes / condos that were built in Wicker Park. Joel's company was the only one that said it was possible to fix my situation. The prior window was leaking water and became deformed / slightly bent. We ordered a new custom Marvin window with a wood interior and a aluminum evergreen exterior. Took about 6 weeks lead time. The new window fits perfect and we no longer have water intrusion. The new Marivn window also turns 180 degrees, so we are able to clean the exterior glass.
Description of Work: Installed a new custom Marvin window with a wood interior and a aluminum (evergreen) exterior. They also installed a new glass piece on a window that had a air/water leak.

I highly recommend Illinois Window Service as a service provider to someone looking to repair rather than replace a sliding glass door. I struggled to locate a provider willing to do this work. After spending an hour plus on Angie's List and Yelp and making phone calls, I was not successful in finding anyone. After seeing anadvertisement for this Company in my Google search, I was skeptical, but called. The owner (Joel) explained we were outside of their normal service area, and I volunteered to pay a mileage surcharge. After communicating what I thought our issue was via email, the owner promptlyfollowed up with an estimate/invoice that I printed, signed, scanned and emailed back. He confirmed receipt and said that he'd follow up to schedule us shortly. Within a week, he scheduled us. He and an employee came out within the half and hour time frame promised (this is a HUGE help to me as a mom with little ones taking naps/in activities, etc.) and successfully fixedour door. He reduced the original quote of $250 to $170 because they did not use replacement parts. I have never had someone charge me less than quoted. Joel and his employee were pleasant, professional, and courteous (wore shoe covers in my home without being asked). We would utilize this company again.
Description of Work: The service provider sent a worker to my home (showed up on the first date (i.e was not rescheduled) that we discussed within the half an hour time frame communicated) and after a brief discussion of what we thought was wrong (sliding glass door rollers needed to be replaced) determined that the rollers were not aligned properly and that debris was preventing from sliding smoothly. After correctly aligning the rollers, cleaning the track, and ensuring the lock worked again, the owner came in to validate that the work was properly performed.

The owner, Joel, responded promptly to my initial call, and gave me instructions on measuring the glass to be replaced so that he could give me an estimate by email. At the first visit, they made detailed measurements and collected for the cost of the glass. After the glass arrived in about a week, they came back to install and collected the balance for the work. They replaced the glass for a large window for a total of just under $300.00, a reasonable price considering the work involved and the fact that they had to come twice.
Description of Work: Replaced the glass and seal for a large window; work done at customer location.

The name of this company, Illinois Window Service, was given to me after calling another company looking for window repairs. I called Mr. De La Cruz and he returned my call the following day, even though he was out of town. We made a tentative appointment for the following week. He called to confirm the appointment and to get my address and directions. Mr. De La Cruz arrived at the appointment time. He quickly showed me that my window did not need repair. He showed me what I needed to do to avoid the problem in the future. He fixed several screens that did not easily attached to the window frame. He showed my how to properly use silicone spray to make the windows and screens move and attach more easily.
Description of Work: Repaired a window that would not move completely up and down, diagnosed and repaired problems with several screens that did not properly connect with the window frame.
