ACKERMAN'S REFINISHING

We received a quote which was 4 times as mcuh as other refinishers. We wanted an 18 year old solid wood table and 6 chairs restained. The quote was $4,000. Other reputable businesses quoted $1000. The response to our request was quick and professional but unbelievable price for a fairly straightforward project with furniture that didn't need restoration.

This company never contacted me. I contacted another Angie's List recommendation. They got back to me the next day, came to my house to see the job and I decided to go with them.

Did not end up getting work done. Received in home estimate and had a couple fabric sample books dropped off. Picked out most of our fabric but was told on several occasions that the sample book with one fabric could not be found. Then he called to say he would drop it off, but never showed up. Spent several days at home waiting for him to show up. He never did and never called. He was scheduled to pick up furniture on a saturday before we went on vacation and never showed up or called. Decided this was not who we wanted to take our furniture. No guarantee if and when we would get it back. Searched out several other facilities and found their prices were much less for beautiful work.

It was awesome. They were wonderful. At first it appeared as if it would be between 4-6 weeks to get the couch back, but it was only 3 weeks. The quality is remarkable. I'm a picky person and I'm hard to please, but I'm thrilled. A large selection of material to choose from. The salesman who arranged all the work and did the estimates accommodated my schedule so I didn't have to take time off and met me at the house after work to pick up and drop off again.

Unfortunately it is so firm now that it is uncomfortable to sit in but it looks beautiful. They were very good about detail and select proper fabric and different elements along the way. He was very good how much different things were going to cost so we could make decisions along the way so we could break down cost on the repair and what the repairs would do. They were very open with the process.

It was excellent! I went with them because of Angie's List recommendation. The workers showed a very high level of professionalism. They had a very clear explanation with very low pressure sale.

I did shop around and found a refinisher who was 30% lower. We went with the lower company. Ackerman's was very responsive and professional.

The person from Ackerman's was very professional. He showed up promptly to give me an estimate for the work. He returned my phone calls quickly. The work was done beautifully. I don't think my table and chairs ever looked so good. The job was also done on time and delivered when promised. All in all a very good experience.

I could not be more pleased with their responsiveness, work quality, or the ease of working with Ackerman's. They do what they say they will, when they say then will, and do a quality job. Because of their quick response, they got the job. I did get lower estimates as they were literally leaving the driveway, but I was swayed by the professional demeanor of the gentleman who came to evaluate disassembling my couch. I don't know about the quality of work I would have gotten from two lower estimates, and will evaluate them when it's not a crisis. Ackerman's did a a great job at a premium price on time.

They delivered the finished table within the time estimated (about a month). Todd and the refinisher delivered it to our house. It looked absolutly stunning! The refinisher commented on what a pleasure the table was to work on and the quality of the piece. Try as we might, we could not tell where the water damaged spot was. The grain of the wood throughout was beautiful. They used a modern and long lasting finish on it and I anticipate years of continued use with the table. The geared extension mechanism, which had previously been balky, works as smooth as silk. It took us another month to decide on an upholstery fabric, but once we did it took them only about 2 weeks to order the fabric and complete the chairs. Again, the work was top notch, all of the joints are solid and the upholstery work is fabulous. The staff at Ackerman's were all very informative and accomodating. The workmen took obvious pleasure and pride in there work. While it initially seemed like a lot of money to me, the end result and the price of a comparable dining set (if you can even find one) was truly worth the cost to us.

Ackerman's was tasked with this job and paid for by the insurance company that insured my move. A large number of items were damaged in the move including numerous pieces of furniture. They were able to either fix the damage or disguise it on almost everything. The only pieces that couldn't be completely brought back were my leather dining room chairs and that was, by no means, Ackerman's fault. They were simply too damaged in the move. The manager from Ackerman's thought they looked fine but I, not unreasonably, wanted them to look like they did before they went on the moving truck. We agreed to disagree. They were very helpful and came to my condo numerous times as well as took pieces away to be worked on at their workshop (yes, there was that much damage). Other than a difference of opinion on the repairs to my leather dining room chairs, I was very satisfied with everything - their customer service, the quality of the work and the timeliness of the work. I can't speak to their prices as the insurance company is paying them but I would certainly call them for any other furniture repair work that might crop up in the future.

My experience with them was good overall because they picked up and delivered, they were on-time, good responsiveness on the phone. It wasn't particularly cheap but it was competitive and it was high quality work.

NO DOWN PAYMENT WAS REQUIRED AND THE CHAIR WAS PICKED UP AND DELIVERED WHEN DONE. WE FELT THE PRICE WELL WORTH THE QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP. ONLY COMPLAINT: THE CHAIR WAS PICKED UP 8/1 AND WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 3 WEEKS. WE GOT THE CHAIR BACK AROUND THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER. MOST OF OUR CALLS SEEKING INFORMATION ON THE DELAY WERE NOT RETURNED AND WHEN WE DID GET A PERSON TO TALK TO, THEY DID NOT FOLLOW UP ON CALLING US BACK WITH INFORMATION. THE PERSON I TALKED TO WAS PUT OUT AT MY CALL. THIS CHAIR WAS MY MOTHERS AND SHE WAS NOT INFORMED ACKERMAN'S WOULD BE SENDING HER CHAIR OUT TO A CAINERS. I AM NOT SURE IF I WILL DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN. MY HUSBAND HAD A CHAIR SEAT DONE FOR ME AND HE WAS MADE TO PAY FOR A WHOLE YARD OF MATERIAL. VERY LITTLE OF IT WAS USED AND HE WAS NOT GIVEN THE REST.

AFTER I GOT OVER THE INITIAL REACTION TO MY DINING ROOM CHAIR BEING BROKEN, I DECIDED TO TURN TO ANGIE'S LIST TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYONE LISTED THAT DID THESE TYPE OF REPAIRS WITHIN A CLOSE PROXIMITY OF MY HOME. I SAW THAT ACKERMAN'S WAS LOCATED VERY CLOSE TO ME, SO I CALLED. I EXPLAINED THE CONDITION OF THE CHAIR AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN AND SURE, THEY COULD FIX IT. WHEN I DID COME IN, TODD WAS VERY PLEASANT, TAKING THE TIME TO REALLY LOOK AT THE CHAIR AND EXPLAINING ABOUT THE DAMAGED SUPPORT DOWELS INSIDE THE CHAIR CONSTRUCTION. HE EXPLAINED THE REPAIR PROCESS AND WROTE UP THE BILL TO MUCH LESS THAN WE'D DISCUSSED OVER THE PHONE AND DIDN'T HESITATE TO SHOW US SOME OF THEIR REFINISHED PIECES IN THE BACKROOM. HE OFFERED TO DROP THE CHAIR OFF TO MY HOME WHEN IT WAS FINISHED AND EVEN TOOK OFF HIS SHOES TO TAKE A LOOK AT AN ANTIQUE I'VE BEEN LOOKING TO HAVE REFINISHED AT A FUTURE DATE. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH HIS SERVICES AND PLAN TO USE HIM FOR MY REFINISHING PROJECTS IN THE FUTURE.

WORKMANSHIP IS EXCELLENT AND PRICING IS FAIR. HOWEVER, THEY EXTENDED THE COMPLETION DATE THREE TIMES AND ONLY AFTER I CALLED. ALSO, THEY FORGOT TO (1) TAKE SAMPLE FURNITURE PIECE FOR MATCHING STAIN AND (2) THEN FORGOT TO RETURN IT.

THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB. THE DESK LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND WORKS PERFECTLY; WE CAN'T EVEN SEE WHERE THEY REPAIRED IT!

GREAT WORK DONE. WORKMAN WAS ON TIME, FRIENDLY AND POLITE. ONLY PROBLEM WAS DELIVERY OF FINISHED PRODUCT. PROMISED REPAIR WITHIN TWO WEEKS; AFTER THREE WEEKS, I CALLED AND ''REMINDED'' THEM. SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT BUT SLOW.

IT WAS A VERY TRICKY JOB, AND MOST OTHER COMPANIES WOULDN'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO FIX, AND THEY MADE IT LOOK BRAND NEW AGAIN. VERY NICE JOB!
