Great! The plumber called prior to arriving and was courteous while at my home. He analyzed the problem and gave a quote to fix. I agreed to it and then he went to work - he had the parts needed on his truck and was done within 30-45 minutes. Really nice and provided answers to my questions. I would definitely call again for any plumbing issues.

Excellent! We had called a different company, who came out and tried to sell us on replacing the sewer line, indicating that it could not be unclogged. Because of the very high price this other company quoted, we decided to get another opinion, so we called Steve. After discussing the situation on the phone with him, he offered to come out the next morning with a camera and cleaning equipment, and told us exactly what we could expect to pay for several possible scenarios - all of which would cost a fraction of what that other company wanted to charge us to dig up and replace the sewer pipe. True to his word, Steve showed up on time the next morning and set about working. He was able to clear the pipe completely and charged us exactly what he had quoted - no surprises. No one likes to have to call a plumber, but the next time we need one, we'll definitely call Steve!

I received a call within 10 minutes, scheduled someone to come out on Monday. They called about 15 minutes ahead, which gave me time to get home. They got right to work, the problem was a bit more complicated than was anticipated. They kept me informed through the entire project. I feel like I paid a fair price for the work that was needed to correct the problem. I am very happy with Rick Ray Plumbing and will definitely use them again in the future.

They pulled the toilet, unclogged the drain and reinstalled the toilet. After they left, I notice the toilet was leaking between the tank and the bowl (almost $400). They sent someone back out. They looked at it, and informed me that the seal and bolts between the tank and bowl would need replaced and it would cost me an additional $132! I refused, told them it wasn't leaking before, I wasn't happy with this. They packed up and left. I went into my garage, got a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. I tightened the 2 bolts holding the tank to the bowl, and that fixed the problem! I later found out the part they wanted to replace was $6 at lowes! Also I've since noticed that the toilet was not mounted square with the wall.

Response from Steve Ray Plumbing Svc Inc
[Member Name Removed] and to anyone reading reviews on this list, As the owner of this business i always go the distance to make sure that all my customers are treated with respect and fairness. I was actually on this job myself. I brought the larger eel machine out to the house after my techs told me it was not a small kitchen drain as the customer implied. We did pull the stool, we also checked the crawl to diagnose plumbing design to identify location and distance of problem as well as pipe type and configuration in regards to what size and strength of blade and cable to use. While we where unclogging the drain with the machine, we seen the condition of the stool. It had blue chlorine gel deodorizing product in the tank. This type of product in the tank is what causes the gaskets for tank to bowl, fill valves, flapper issues and flush valve gaskets to leak. We expressed concern over the chlorine product and advised customer of its behavior. He did not want anything done to stool at that time, Just the drain issue fixed. When we pulled stool, we literally picked it up and set it straight upright and just set it off to the side just outside the room. When we put it back we just set it right back. We flushed it several times and collected and left. As we got down the road , i received a call from [Member Name Removed] that he had a leak. Without hesitation, i sent a tech immediately back and had him check out the issue. the stool was leaking tank to bowl. This did not surprise me, however i wish we would have seen it prior to leaving so we could have fixed it for him then. That being said, it would have still been work that would have been chargeable. It would have made no difference who moved the stool, the same problem would have occur'd. It is old and the gaskets were corroded and weak. In the event that we seen it prior to leaving , we would have pulled the tank and rebuilt the gaskets and put it back at a charge. The customer in this case thinks since we left and came back , that it is our fault for the leak. In this case, it would have been any company that would have pulled it to unclog or any person including the homeowner. The only difference is that we did not catch it before we left. For that i apologize. I did not charge him to drive back, we simply told him the cost of the repair in parts and labor to replace what was necessary to cure his problem. He was not happy, because it was costing more money. I understand his frustration, but i cannot be expected to rebuild a old stool because of its poor condition because it was moved. The stool was not damaged or set in any other position but upright due to its condition. We are a professional company and care very deeply about our customers and the way they are treated. I believe we were fair in returning at no charge and provided a fair price to make all those repairs that should have been done after we advised of this problem. In business you cant please everyone all the time, even if that is the goal. [Member Name Removed] called me and expressed his unhappiness and i sympathized with his condition, but also explained that we had just talked about the issue of these gaskets and now that we were facing a problem within this result. I told him no charge to return , but to rebuild would be a charge. That's fair. If it would have happened while we were there , it would have been a charge and we would have fixed it then, which he understood. But , because we left, now its on us. The only difference is we had to drive back. Thanks for reading my response Sincerely, Steve Ray

Steve indicated that this type of work would be done with more expertise by a company that specializes in water filtration. He made a recommendation. It was great. They had a replacement pump on the truck for $400 but Menards had one on sale for $240. They let me go and buy that one. They were great to work with. They were professional and did a great job of keeping us apprised of what was going on. Turns out our builder installed a sump pump in the sewage pit. I will definitely use them again!!!

I found out on a Sunday night that my senior citizen in laws' hot water heater was failing. I was going to be out of town on business that week. I called Steve on Monday, based on other Angie list reviews. I was able to reach him right away. He was very professional and knowledgeable; talked me through the process. gave me an estimate, and we scheduled the work for the following Wednesday morning. His crew arrived on time, handled everything very professionally and completed the job without a hitch. Everything was left clean and in order, which was important because the hot water heater was in a utility closet off the kitchen and dining room. My in laws were very happy with how everything worked out and are enjoying tons of hot water.

Steve took my call and was professional and courteous throughout. He ensured that we had a clear understanding of the work I was requesting and what that would entail for his crew. The team of two showed up on time, were clean in appearance, and were extremely polite and professional. I had several questions and concerns throughout the inspection and they were very patient, and thorough with the explanations. Cost was $120 (minimum for house call) but I used a coupon which took it to $84

[Removed Customer Name], Thank you for the opportunity to bid your job. I know from talking with you via the phone , that i lost the job and i was quite a bit higher. I figured the man hours and the materials and provided a price that reflected the installation according to our state code. It also called for inspection of such an installation of these sorts, to protect you as the homeowner. I was shocked to hear i had been beaten on price to that extent. From my stand point, I don,t think the other contractor and i were bidding apples for apples. I know it is hard for homeowners to understand the the differences between bids when they don't know how our business works. I hope your contractor permitted your job and had the work inspected by The city Plumbing Inspector. Sorry we could not do business. Sincerely, Steve Ray

I called the company to give me a price on several things including evaluating the standpipe in the basement so that I could move my washer and dryer to the basement. Garin came out and took one look at the scary maze of ancient plumbing and said, more or less, "Wow." The following day he came out with the owner, Steve Ray, and co-worker Ryan. I sat in the kitchen and listened while they conferred in the basement. This went on for well over an hour. When they were done, Steve Ray explained to me what needed to be done to update and correct the scary maze and gave me an estimate. I decided to go with it. It was something I was going to have to do sooner or later and the current state of the plumbing was making it difficult to do any improvements to the house. Steve Ray sent me a contract. I reviewed and signed it and at the beginning of the following week they started. They were here for three full days and a few hours on another to wrap up some things. There were usually two guys here at a time. (I met a fourth co-worker, Jacko.) Everyone was professional, courteous, and wore paper footies in the house. It was a noisy time but that was the nature of the work. At the end of each day, Ryan gave me a walk-through of what had been done that day. I appreciated this very much. They worked it out so that I wasn't without water for more than a handful of hours. I always had toilet and water services in some part of the house at the end of the day. When they were finished, Steve Ray came out to inspect the work. I sat in the kitchen again and listened to him confer with Ryan. It was more than a cursory look around and I appreciated Steve Ray's thoroughness. Finally, Steve Ray told me to be on the lookout for any little leaks that might occur, especially under sinks where leaks are not always immediately noticeable. I did this and noted a couple. They came out right away and fixed them. It's now ten days later and everything is peachy and this includes increased water pressure and no more bad odors. I'm so glad I had this done. I would hire them again in an instant.
Description of Work: Repiped drainage and water in the basement of my 100 year-old house. Installed new vent stack to replace incorrectly configured venting. Here's the detail: 1. Took out out existing cpvc and galvanized water lines. 2. Replaced three outside spigots with new ones. 3. Installed new PEX water lines to all fixtures fed from basement to first floor. (Second floor fixtures were OK.) 4. Resized water lines to increase volume and pressure. 5. Installed new shut-off valves at fixtures supplied with new water. 6. Replaced old cast iron tee drainage lines and rerouted upstairs main drain to new drainage tee. 7. Tied old vents into new drainage by sewer outlet. 8. Replaced drainage from two kitchen sinks and corrected venting in island sink. 9. Installed new laundry water and drainage in basement as well as new dryer vent. 10. Ran new venting for drains through attic and out roof. 11. Left a drain location for future work.

I had gotten about 4 different quotes for a water based sump pump system. The first quote was by telephone only. For the 2nd and 3rd quotes I could tell the tech was thinking hard how to get a water based system installed. When Garron from Steve Ray showed up to estimate the work I found out why two of the other vendors where struggling. We have a Radon system, and the seal on the cap limits what can be installed. Garron showed me all the details of how the the system would be installed, how it would tie in to the plumbing, and how it would drain. The estimate was about the same as the uninformed telephone estimate, and a little more that the estimates that removed the radon cap. Thanks to Garron's complete explanation, I had no doubt taht Steve Ray was the right plumber, and the Base Pump was our best solution. The installation is done and I will use Steve Ray Plumbing again.

The facet refused to completely turn off after watering the garden area. It was a slow leak and for the moment corrected it by leaving the hose attached. Ryan did a great job. He was punctual and professional and talked to the guys doing the waterproofing to determine how much of the pipe he needed to remove. On the second day, he went upstairs and determined he also needed to replace part of the drain pipe under the sink so the new basement pipes would fit better around the support beams. The new pipes look much better than the old ones he removed.
Description of Work: A cast iron sewer pipe for a kitchen sink was preventing proper installation of waterproofing sheeting and support beams for basement walls. I called in late afternoon and Ryan came out first thing the next day and removed a large section of the pipe so the work could proceed, then returned the following day and replaced it with PVC drain pipes configured to go around the support beams.
