CASTLE CONSTRUCTION REMODELING

J.J. came over after we again contacted Bill from Henson Robinson. J.J. must have come from a roofing job because he left foot prints in the kitchen and upstairs. He suggested that we purchase another fan (we only had one at the time), so we did. He never send us a written statement regarding the exact work to be done, despite his promise, twice, to do so. We always had to initiate contact, and he never updated us to when he might "get to" us. Larry made a final call on Monday, July 26, 2010, and J.J. informed us that the work would not be done before Thursday of that same week. Without any notice or confirmation, he showed up Saturday, July 31, at 9:30 a.m. We just happened to be home because we got a late start. I was very unhappy about the "surprise" visit and felt we were being pressured. Although J.J. quoted us a very low price, and he was very personable, I began to feel uncomfortable about him doing the job. Additionally, he purchased a flue pipe for the bathroom fan that we did not authorize. The whole episode just seemed hinky and was unprofessional. This whole process began on June 7, 2010, and we hoped to have the fans installed to assist with cooling this summer. Today is August 5, 2010, and we received an estimate from another roofing company on Monday, August 2, and he called today to inform us that the job is scheduled for today or tomorrow at the latest.

An inspection when I bought the house a year earlier stated that the roof was good for "a few" years and impled 4-6 years. A leak in the kitchen proved otherwise. Got several estimates (some of them downright crazy, ranging from $7k to $30k) and Castle seemed the most realistic. Recommended by a friend. Estimate to finished approximately 2 1/2 weeks (actual working time was only two consecutive weekdays). These guys were great. Friendly and willing to explain everything to a new homeowner. Cleanup and preservation of my shrubs (such as they are) was great. The day they started it seemed like they had brought an army. Both Jim and J.J. were on site (while I was there) and solved any problems immediately (runaway shingles bent a gutter). They took and gave me 21 pictures of the decayed sheathing and chimney flashing found while doing the work and called me to let me know the adjusted costs ($700) to repair these things. These really weren't a big surprise. I anticipated them given the age of the house and the state of the previous roofing job. Cleanup and preservation of my shrubs (such as they are) was great. The work is fabulous. Almost a year on and no more leaks. I couldn't be happier.
