BLACKHAWK ROOFING

It went well. The estimate stated if unforeseen things came up he would contact me right away. Once he got up there to tear off the old shingles, he realized they were double layered so that changed the cost by about $800. It took him 2 days to complete the job. The only thing I noticed was one of my flower pots was broken but I can't honestly say that Dan or his crew broke it since I was not present for the work. They removed my solar lighting so they would not break any of them. They however left the steaks in the ground and I could not find them when it was time to replace the lighting. I will have to buy new steaks but that is a very minor issue and would not hold that against the great work they did.

They were the lowest by far when I was getting estimates at that time.They said they would be there early in the morning and they were at our house at 4:30 in the morning. They were covering the bushes and getting everything set up. I left and went to work. When I came out at 4 pm, they were done and gone. They had 18 people working on the roof at one point. It was a fantastic job. I had 3 people in the neighbor come and ask who they were. Their estimate was $7,000 less than another company. He did a walk around after talking to him on the phone a couple of times. He gave me a price and said they were booked for 2 weeks. He said he would call within a 3 day window and he called and said they would be there early the next morning and they were. They tore a screen when they were doing part of the teardown. I saw it when I did the walk around and I called. He asked if I thought $100 would fix it and I said yeah so he said to talk off $100 on the bill.

Very satisfied with the job. Two story house and they had it done in a day and a half. Workers were they promptly and the cleanup was very detailed - there was ALOT of cleanup. They ended up having to tear off 4 layers of roofing and replacing all of the wood. It was crazy with debris falling while they did the tear off but I was informed ahead of time since there was so much to tear off. The initial bid was for a single layer tear off and replacement, they let me know of any damage they found ( no way to tell from the ground) and once I authorized them to do what they needed to do they zoomed right thru it. Our smaller lower roofs were done by them in the Fall so the overall cost of the roof of both jobs came to approximately $13,000.00. I gave a B for quality because I don't know much about roofing to say confidently what quality of the work should be other than not leaking. The representatives were very professional and respectful.

I took a couple days to get the quote. I asked them to fax the quote, and it took them a couple weeks to receive the quote. I called him back to find out if the quote was negotiable. He said he would come out to remeasure and would call back. He never came remeasure. I always had to keep calling him to remind him or get quotes. He was voted best roofer in the town by the local paper. I was definitely surprised and wouldn't agree. It may have been that he had too much work and didn't have time for the job, but he should have let me known that.

Very fast and professional. Job was done in a single day, including clean-up.

I called May 8th for an estimate and spoke to the owner Dan. He said that he was going to be busy but that he would try to get by to look at the roof and give me an estimate. I told him that he didn't need to rush and anytime was fine. To my surprise when I came home from work that day there was an estimate from him. The estimate was based on the "squares" which he figured as 14. Three later estimates I received came in as 12 "squares" so my first concern was that I was being overcharged. Even with the "extra" squares, he was the second lowest estimate I received of five. The estimate also specified the removal of one layer of shingles even though I actually have 2 layers on 3/4 of the roof and 3 on the rest. I was concerned about a "surprise" charge at the end of the job for the extra layers to be removed. The estimate also didn't list the brand of shingles and other materials that would be used, so I called him ten days later to ask about that and my other concerns. I asked him if he actually got on the roof to measure and he said yes. He said that 12 and 14 squares are not that far apart. I am unfamiliar with the formula for measuring roofs so I can't comment on that, but the difference in price between 12 and 14 on his estimate would be $560 which is significant on my tight budget. When I asked about an additional cost for the multiple layer tear off, he said that if his "squares" estimate was off by two then that would cover the cost of the additional tear off. He said the estimate would be about the same as the original. I didn't feel completely comfortable with this explanation as I like things to be more precise. Dan said he used CertainTeed brand shingles which I was happy about as that was my preferred brand based on my own research. Overall, I feel that Blackhawk provided a quality product (CertainTeed) for a reasonable price in his estimate. I didn't choose to work with him based on the fact that I needed additional work done that was beyond the scope of his roofing license. I would have had to hire a separate HVAC person as well. I appreciate that he let me know this information instead of just doing the work, risking his license in the process and possibly doing harm to my house. I would reccomend him to others based on this alone.

It went great. The work was done by several men and was done in an afternoon.

I asked Blackhawk to provide me with an estimate to do a complete tear off of the roof. They estimated the job at $11,000 plus any additional to fix any holes that MIGHT be found during the process. I thought that was a bit high so in February of 2012 I had another roofer provide a second estimate. His estimate was considerable lower (more reasonable). But he also pointed out that I had a gaping hole in the roof that had to have been there for some time. I am appalled that the Blackhawk representative did NOT mention that hole in the estimate nor the need to fix it immediately to avoid further damage to the interior of the house. There is no way I would recommend that anyone use Blackhawk for this type of service.
