House Smart Remodeling

He did a good job, was always great at getting back to me.

I wanted to add a wooden accent wall to a bedroom. Chris of House Smart found a beautiful wood look tile (it even has "nail heads" painted on it!!) and installed it and redid the trim. Chris had the brilliant idea of not grouting the tile to make it look more like wood and the result is a gorgeous wall that looks like wood, but even better. It's stunning!! I am super happy!!!!

Came about 3 mos. ago, measured, took notes about type of things we wanted. Made a rude remark about having this done 'at our age', but promised to get back to us with a basic floor plan, quote. Never returned calls, e-mails, until this afternoon when he blew us off. Claimed he couldn't find a specialist he needed, though I googled it after he hung up, & found a list of close to a dozen companies, one less than 5 miles away. No idea how far out these specialists are booked up, but general impression was he didn't want to bother with a big job for 'people our age'. Very poor communications skills to say the least, & very unprofessional.

Chris did a great job with a variety of projects. He was very professional and pleasant to work with and we were very pleased with the completed work.

Did a great job at a very reasonable price. Even though the directions that came with the railing were not very thorough, Chris was able to install the railing in a short amount of time. It's solid and sturdy and when he left, everything was clean as a whistle. I will be hiring this provider again.

Chris and partner did a solid job with difficult new heavy vanity install, plumbing work, and installing a free standing tub. Chris is experienced and creative in his craft. Chris was on time and fair with his pricing which is about $110 per hour for two people. I would look to use him for bigger jobs around the house all the time.

To say that I am a satisfied customer would be an understatement. I was so pleased with the work Chris had done in my bathroom that I will be hiring him in the near future for other projects. From the time of first contact to the completion of the job everything was smooth and easy. Chris is very personable and easy to deal with. He is a hard worker and wasted no time in completing the job. His prices are also very reasonable. I will be recommending him to others that need work done.

Chris did a thorough job repairing gaps in caulking, a hold in the siding and a hole on a fireplace place cap hole. He was easy to communicate with and empathetic to my concerns. I highly recommend Chris for anyone in need of a handyman service.

The job went better than expected! This was part of an Angie's List special for two hours of handyman work. Chris did everything right. He communicated well, was punctual, was friendly, was prepared, brought his own materials, and got right to work with no wasted time. He asked the appropriate amount of advice for the work to be done, but was also good about making suggestions when I asked him to. Everything looks great! I would definitely hire him again for handyman work as well as more involved home remodeling projects.

I’ve used House Smart in the past for extensive remodeling, so I knew Chris has the skills to handle anything that’s an issue. Chris spent the day here and knocked out the list of annoying problems in the house. He also gave me great advice on the best choice of Ring doorbells for my house to provide additional security. He installed the doorbells and came up with a really clever way of installing the camera. It makes all the difference in the world to have someone working on my house who is really skilled. Chris doesn’t just fix the problems, his work adds value to my house. Highly recommend.

Chris of House Smart is a master craftsman! I wanted to replace an interior door in the kitchen and Chris came up with the idea of using a barn door. Chris designed, built and installed the door and it’s fantastic! He gave the wood a vintage look and had the great idea of using chalkboard paint, which is a fun thing in the kitchen. The door works perfectly and everyone comments when they see it! I highly recommend House Smart.

We interviewed 5 different contractors but absolutely loved the design Chris provided for us. He provided us with a beautifully designed kitchen, brand new cabinets, counter tops, took out a wall to open up the space, completely refinished the oak floors, all the plumbing, electrical etc. The total project from start to finish took about 2.5 months. As you can see from the pictures the remodel is absolutely breathtaking! Highly recommend.

The project turned out amazing. Chris and his team were professional, careful of our home/family and managed other contractors for our cabinets, flooring and counter tops very well to make sure everything was in on time. Everything went smoothly and the results are beautiful. We would hire him again for future home needs without hesitation.

Chris Freund was the only contractor that was willing to take on our renovation project that resulted from a water damage insurance claim that another contractor had caused. He addressed our plumbing issues, gutted the bathroom, tiled the bathtub walls, installed a beautiful vinyl floor, and put in a sink, tub and fixtures that try to mimic a period look. He contracted the drywall work which turned out great and trimmed the bathroom and living room with an eye for trim work to match the age of the house. The hollow core sliding closet doors that another contractor had bought were too long but he trimmed them down and reinstalled the core in them! He is a master carpenter, and we will be using him again when we remodel our kitchen. He has a lot of great design ideas and is not afraid to tackle any aspect of a project. I am very happy with the job he did for $14,000 when we had an estimate for 2 1/2 times that from someone else.

I hired House Smart to do extensive work on an investment property and they did a great job. The house had been gutted so the project was a complete redo. Chris identified and resolved some structural issues and arranged for subcontractors to install all new electrical, plumbing and HVAC. He then did all the interior work, which included two baths and the kitchen. Chris had some terrific ideas for how to best make use of the limited space while keeping costs under control. He figured out how to fit in a second bathroom and his kitchen design, which added sliding doors opening out to a new deck, was genius and transformed the dim kitchen into a wonderful room. House Smart is a great company to work with!

I have used House Smart remodeling in the past and knew that Chris would do a great job with remodeling my basement. The basement had been finished by the previous owner and was not a nice space. I'm attaching pictures to show the custom carpentry that Chris did using oak to cover the ugly mental support columns and replace the tiled tops of the low walls. The new look is almost too beautiful to be in a basement! Chris's team did a wonderful job replacing the worn carpet and tile with tile that I chose, refinished the existing oak doors and trim, painted, replaced missing ceiling tiles, and did a million little things that made the basement perfect. I couldn't be happier with my beautiful new basement!

My basement was finished by the previous owner and it was not an attractive living space. Chris of House Smart has done other remodeling work for me in the past and was able to make these rooms beautiful! I'm including a before and after photo to show just a small example of the wonderful work that House Smart does. In the photos you can see the ugly metal support columns. The pictures don't show the original horrible tile that was on the tops of the ledges. Chris designed and installed custom oak panels and trim, which almost seem too gorgeous for a basement! He covered all the other support columns in the basement, refinished all the existing oak doors and trim, painted the walls, replaced missing/damaged ceiling tiles, removed worn carpet and floor tile and replaced with new tile, plus a million little things that he did to make everything perfect. House Smart remodeling is a top notch company!

Chris of House Smart turned a nightmare foreclosure property into my dream house. Every step of the way he and his crew cared about doing things right, not just getting the work done. Chris has a wonderful eye for design and had suggestions that improved my remodeling ideas from good to great. He has a wide breadth of knowledge and gave me invaluable advice even on the portions of the remodeling (e.g. a new roof) that weren't contracted thru his company. Chris never lost patience when I kept finding new problems in the house that I added to the project and worked hard to minimize the resulting additional costs to resolve them. While working on the house he also identified and fixed numerous issues (e.g. loose support columns on the front porch) that I had not yet discovered, thereby saving me from future trouble and cost. Chris is an amazing carpenter. On more than one occasion he took my request for custom work, did a quick sketch to show me options, and then created something beautiful. I can't say enough good things about House Smart and highly recommend.

Chris of House Smart was a joy to work with. From the very first call he understood our vision and was not only eager to do the work, but was genuinely as excited about the project as we were. We met a few times to review our budget and scope of work before he began. He helped us walk through a couple different ideas and gave us much needed input and guidance. Together we feel we came up with the best plan to utilize our space to the fullest. Chris transformed our boring plain kitchen into a work of art while utilizing our existing cabinets. He reconfigured an awkward oversized island into a beautiful peninsula that we now use every day. His attention to detail and woodworking skills are nothing short of amazing. Chris and his guys cleaned up after themselves daily and did all they could to make living in the home during renovation as comfortable as possible. We are extremely happy with the entire project and would not hesitate to hire Chris again!

This is a rental property that was in need of repair due to water damage--the entire floor needed to be taken apart and drywall along the side of the house needed to be repaired. At one point there was only the siding that separated the living room from the outside. I am an expat living outside the US with a time difference of nine hours and Chris was easy to work with from the quote, to getting the job done. He worked with my budget and this was very important as well. We are already looking at fixing other things he spotted that needed care--he's very professional, on time, reasonably priced and gets back to you on time even though you are literally nine hours away! Excellent clean paint job. Taped all that needed to be taped and cleaned up after job leaving no excess mess behind. Love the color and the finished room. Will definetley use House Smart again and recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and professional contractor. Thank you Chris for taking on a paint job we did not want to have to do ourselves.

Scheduled time with Chris for an estimate and he didn't show nor did he bother to call to say he didn't intend to show. Thanks for wasting my time!
