Plumber cleaned out two lines when we only needed one and told him that the newer line was not connected to the problem line. Then he told us the price was $350 and came in and charged us $575 because he charged us for the work we told him he did not need to do. What a rip off.

A Better Plumber and Sewer Co. is a great company. The owner is very knowledgeable and very responsive. They are not try to charge you unnecessarily, and I can’t say enough good things about them. I would recommend this company to anyone in Lake County.

Rich and his team were incredibly helpful in determining which system would best fit our needs. In the end, we went with his recommendation and could not be happier. When we need a plumber again, we know who we’ll be calling!

They stayed longer than expected on a weekend and worked until the job was done. We are very grateful and would call them again in a heartbeat. Very knowledgeable and hard working.

We have sewer line protection insurance and A Better Plumber was dispatched to diagnose and repair the problem after another company had tried twice. Rich and his father arrived on a Saturday evening and worked tirelessly for five hours until our sewer was finally cleaned out. When they arrived, Rich found asphalt and gravel debris dumped in the manhole on the street near our home. They hauled it out to take away with them, which was more than many plumbing companies would do. Moving inside and after accessing the clean out behind the drywall in our bathroom, they used their camera to determine where the backup was occurring in the sewer. Power rodding many times, they were finally able to push through the obstruction out by the street. The camera determined there was no damage to our sewer tiles, much to our relief. They left well after midnight, very tired, but grateful the job was done. I would highly recommend Rich and his team. They were professional and very helpful. I don't think I expressed my thanks enough when they were finally able to pack up and head home.

The service was awesome. The contractors did an awesome job. I would refer them to anyone. I thank them and appreciate the work they did. The dispatch was friendly and very helpful as well.

Professional service from all workers, first and foremost. Sewer lines needed to be augered out for roots which is a common problem in my area. VERY good communication with their office if they think they're going to be at all late. I was happy with their fixing of the toilet because now it fills faster and no longer runs constantly and their fixing of the tub overfill drain gave me a MUCH nicer set-up -- with replacing parts that were original from the 70s with updated and more convenient parts that prevent me from misplacing the tub stopper and being able to take deeper baths. These guys are a very busy company since they contract with Illinois American Water and are the "top guys" to call on that list I.A.W. provides if you need home service. Would I hire them again? Yes, because they work with American Water and make that part of the problem a lot easier. They know how to bill according to where the problem is in the line and sometimes it's not the homeowner's responsibility but I.A.W's to fix the problem, depending on where it is in the plumbing line. That makes things easier. The owner and the guys working under him are very polite and professional and have now become our go-to guys when we have a plumbing issue.

We had couple minor floor drainage backup, got several quotes including from our maintenance company, however we decided to go with A Better Plumber & Sewer Company because the technician Misaol was very polite, thoughtful and professional. He even went extra mile to try to figure out other options for us, when I decided not go ahead with those options, he act professionally. Among four quotes they end up in the middle, I decided to go with them mainly because of my experience (both in person and on phone). The office admin Loretta was such a angel, she explain procedures in great details, work around my schedules, and streamline every single possible tackles. I had read good review about her here, and I am happy that I used their service. It has been about a week, everything seems fine. I would highly recommend the company and Misaol/Loretta for anyone with plumbing and sewer service needs.

Mike called A Better Plumber & Sewer Company unfortunately his wife passed away the same day they came out to fix the plumbing issue. Rich (the owner) was very compassionate and understanding of Mikes wife’s death. He did the Rodding for free of charge (usually a $325 job) and was extremely nice to him and I (Mikes caregiver).

As a woman I cannot speak to highly of the superb care that was taken in accomplishing the necessary work. The crew was polite and treated me with great respect. My "woman" questions were not shunted away but answered well so that I cold process and understand the scenario around this break and repair. Do not, I repeat DO NOT hire this company. When you cannot even keep an appointment it makes you wonder what kind of service you will be receiving. Thumbs down on this company. Run, don't walk!!!

I called in mid afternoon thinking my water heater was leaking. From the initial phone call to the finished job, A better plumber certainly lived up to their name. Rich and his sidekick arrived long into the day with a smile and courteous manner despite being far from home, and I am sure hungry! It wasn't my water heater after all (thankfully) and he noticed a drain hole blocked. Brought in the machine to clean it out and they were off to even another job. We received a 1 year warranty and even used a coupon. I would use them again if I ever need them. Calling a plumber is usually stressful, but Rich made it comfortable. Thanks again for the great customer service!

Very unprofessional company. I called this company to get an estimate for a new flood control system. when they answer the phone they actually pick up and say "yeah, can i help you with something?" anyways after talking to a lady she scheduled me for a Saturday appointment at 11am. I waited and waited and waited by nearly noon I call and ask whats going on. The owner says yeah I'm gonna be honest with you we aren't there and I say no kidding, where are you? I've been waiting since 11am. The owner starts making excuses and actually gets confrontational on the phone with me. I tell him to forget it and call another plumber who actually came out within the hour and helped me. 3 days later their receptionist calls and says how did everything go? Did the plumber make it out to your house on Saturday? They clearly have no communication with each other. If they cant even make a simple appointment to give an estimate would you really trust this company to do work on your home? Steer clear of this business.

We had a leak from our water heater relief valve. Rich explained what needed to be fixed and how this happened. The leak was fixed and they even vacuumed the floor. Very nice people and I feel reasonably priced

It went terribly! I have asked repeatedly over the past month for a refund of my $3,000 deposit, minus $165.00 which their workmen charged for removing the wall paneling from the basement. We do not dispute that charge, but want the balance of the $3,000 refunded. Rich, the owner, will not respond to my calls. I have hesitated to give a very bad review here because I am aware he has some personal problems, but due to my husband's Parkinson's disease, I also have personal problems I'm dealing with. I would definitely NOT recommend A Better Plumber and Sewer Company, Inc., based on my very unpleasant experience.

This is actually a review for the same company doing 2 different jobs for me within 2 weeks. First, on May 27, 2014, my hot water heater went out in the late afternoon. I called A Better Plumber and Sewer, as they had put in the last one, and Loretta set up an appt. for me the next day, May 28,2014. I had to leave for work by 12:30p that day, so I needed them to come no later than 11:00a so I could still get to work on time. Jordan and his assistant Brad came about 11:15, had a truck break down so had to get another which is why they were a little late. However, they got the new water heater installed and running in an hour so I had plenty of time to get to work. They were amazing, very professional and efficient and cleaned up after themselves. I was a very happy camper. Then, on June 4, I had to call them again as I had a faulty gate valve on the inside pipe to my outside hose. The appt. was set up for June 5, again I had to request that they arrive before 11:00 due to my work schedule. Unfortunately, the job they were on before mine had complications which delayed them getting to my house, and both the company and Jordan/Brad called me to advise me of such, so we rescheduled for Monday, June 9 as this was not an emergency situation. Again, Jordan and Brad came out and Jordan assessed that the old valve's threads were stripped and I would require a new valve. He removed the old valve and soldered a new ball valve on. There was a gap between the outside concrete wall and where the spigot is supposed to be flush up against the wall, and the pipe was very wiggly, so Jordan adjusted the pipe to close that gap and anchor the pipe better. There was still a little gap after he was finished, so he grabbed some sealant and filled it in, which I appreciated to prevent insects or tiny critters from getting into my house. Then, since they were already here, I had Jordan check my toilet, which had been dripping water into the bowl for several months. It just needed a new flapper, which Jordan made sure was installed correctly and he tested it several times before deciding it was good to go. I am extremely pleased with the service that I have received from this company and their employees, especially Loretta, Lisa, and Jordan and his assistant Brad. I appreciate their calling to advise of the delays and Jordan was very helpful answering my questions and informing me as he performed the procedures. The cost above is for both jobs, broken down: Hot water heater 40 gal. gas-- $1050.00 with 6yr warranty ,1yr on the pipes; and : Valve, soldering, toilet flapper replacement-- $240.00 1yr warranty on pipe work, 90 day warranty on flapper. All in all, I give them an A+ and highly recommend them. I know I will not hesitate to call them again for any plumbing problems that come up, especially if they send Jordan.

they came out on an emergency basis and gave me a written estimate. they pulled all permits, contacted all the utilities and arranged for the water company to come out for the inspections. gravel was poured around the PVC pipe and trench was refilled with dirt. excess dirt was hauled as gravel was delivered. they cleaned up every day before they left. they kept us informed along the way as they progressed. work was completed on time and budget.
