He found the problem and it was solved

I have a contract so they come to service the air conditioning and the heat. They come twice a year. I have a special contract where everything is replaced free if they find something wrong. They installed it a number of years ago. They come and really clean. They spent about an hour cleaning everything doing the inside and outside. I always ask them how certain things are doing and they always tell me. They are always willing to answer any questions I have or tell me what to watch for. They are just very good.

I scheduled an appointment for Pat to arrive at my house to look over some duct work I wanted to complete. I was also interested in Aerosole to be sprayed into the ductwork. Pat arrived was punctual. He studied the ductwork and drew a sketch. I explained I wanted two additional vents added to the first floor. I a humidifier I wanted attached to the furnace. I wanted the remaining ductwork in the basement to be closed. I wanted the ducts to be cleaned. I wanted his company to provide Areosole to be sprayed in to the ductwork. I asked for a quote. He gave me an approximate verbal dollar amount. He assured me he would send me a quote by the end of the week prior to his taking a vacation the following week. I did not get the quote. I sent Pat a text the week he was to be back from vacation asking for the quote. I did not receive a response. I called Pat a week and half after the sent text and spoke with him directly. He assured me he would send the quote out by the end of the week. I never received a quote. If he was too busy to do the work perhaps a referral to a different company would have been the professional thing to do. But why waste my time and his if he was not interested? I have since contracted with another company to have both the ductwork added, cleaned, closed and Aerosole sprayed.

They are excellent and very nice people to deal with. I got them through my plumber. They followed up with everything. I am happy with the price compared to others.

We've used them for 25 years since we've lived in Illinois. The people that we bought the house from used them and they left a page on the furnace that said, "This was installed by Elgin Sheet Metal and we have used them for the furnace" so the next fall came and we wanted furnace service for the winter and we called them and we've been with them ever since. They're outstanding.

Great service. No pressure to buy or upgrade. Explained different types of units and benefits of each, along with pricing for each one. Recommended unit per house specs. One of the few providers who didn't include rebates in their overall pricing structure. Provided completed paperwork and instructions for homeowner to send in to get rebates directly. Very competitively priced. Offered a variety of payment options. Quick response to many of my questions over a period of time. Did the installation on short notice in the time frame I requested. Heater and air conditioner work great.

We bought a deal on Angie's list but the business did not accept it. They claimed no knowledge of offering a special deal on Angie's list. While Angie's list eventually made good on that, we weren't able to use the purchased deal for the service call....but we ended up hiring Elgin Sheet Metal anyway. The price was fair - less than half what others quoted us. It would have been even cheaper with the deal but I digress. The service was prompt - since we desperately needed air conditioning to work, they were kind enough to fit us into their schedule the same day we called. The technician was courteous, knew his stuff and fixed us up quickly. Despite the Big Deal mix-up, we would gladly hire them again.

My furnace would not start, and so I called Elgin Sheet Metal. They have done my furnace maintenance in past years, and I found them to be an honest good company. The technician spent an hour inspecting the problem, and then I was told he would have to order a part. When I asked how much he was not sure, he guessed it to be $300. I told him to go ahead with the repair; and he came back and installed the part, and my furnace was up and running. I asked him what I owed him, and he said we'll send you a bill. The bill came and was approximately $800, 500 was for the part and 300 for labor. I thought the labor charge was fair, but the part cost I was not expecting. In any case, my only problem was that I think the company should have been more upfront about what the total repair would be. A simple phone call would have been nice. I would use them again, but my advice would be to get a good solid estimate of the price of the repair before you go ahead so that there are no surprises.

The blower in our furnace stopped working and I called them to inspect/replace it. I called at 8am and was told a technician would arrive in an hour or so. I was glad to find that they could dispatch someone so quickly. However, 2 hours passed and nobody arrived, I called back and the service manager said that I was next on the schedule. I told him that I had to take the day off work to get this scheduled and would have appreciated an update. His response was, and quot;well you didn't tell me that when you called beforeand quot;. I also learned at that time that there is a fixed $98 charge just to get an estimate for repairs. Calling other HVAC companies, I found that it is standard practice. However, this contractor did not tell me that up front. That customer service experience could have been better. When the technician arrived, he was courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. The job was well done and my Air Conditioning is working once again. He did not try to upsell any other services or expand the scope of what was needed. That was appreciated. Beforehand, I checked prices for the blower motor on the internet and found their parts prices to be comparable. I also asked whether they would honor a competitor's Angie's List coupon and after some persistence, they finally agreed to accept it.

I purchased the Angie's List deal for A/C manitenance for this provider and then called the provider. When I called to schedule appointment, the people were nice on the phone but when they heard I had purchased the deal they said they did not honor the deal and don't know why Angie's List has them as part of the deal. Not happy about this. A big waste of my time and is my first negative experience with Angie's List. I got a refund but that's not the point after wasting my time and feeling like a fool when calling the company to schedule. May be Angie's List's fault or the business - not sure and don't really care at this point.

The heat exchange on our furnace broke and since it was cold we needed immediate help. We called Elgin Sheet Metal and someone came over within minutes. We spent some time discussing our options with a salesman and the work was scheduled for the next morning. The workers arrived very early and it took all day to remove our old, huge, and heavy furnace, but by late afternoon we had a new furnace up and running. A new air conditioner was also purchased and installed but since it was fall, they didn't prepare it for use. On the first hot day -- which came very early this year -- Elgin Sheet Metal called us. They were out prepping air conditioners and wanted to take care of ours. We were delighted. They came and started it up and everything works fine.

Service man arrived on schedule and was not at all put off by my 3 very friendly dogs. He checked out my leaking A/C / furnace, explaining everything as he went. He showed me how to perform simple, standard troubleshooting tests. He clearly explained the problem, how to resolve it, and what not to worry about. This is the 2nd time I've used Elgin Sheet Metal Heating and Cooling and I'll definitely continue to call them and recommend them wholeheartedly to others.

Owner was very knowledgeable about Carrier heating and A/C systems. Price was not the lowest of all quotes received but the installation was professional. Technician carefully patched hole in siding when A/C unit was relocated. Installation took 2 days as quoted. Liked the fact that the owner gave me his cell phone number to call in case of problems.

Great and honest service. The blower had a loose bolt and so they just took care of that and got me up and running. Honest business.

ESM was one of 5 estimates we received. This was a non-emergency maintenance replacement of 40+ year old system. Estimator was very prompt, very knowledgable with assessment of our needs. Installation seemed to go smoothly and on schedule (note that I'm not one to 'hover around' while the work is being performed...after all, we hire to DO, not 'teach'). Provided detailed maintenance and operational instructions. Meticulous clean up afterwards.

Was very thorough in quoting exactly what we needed for our system. One of 4 very competitive quotes for top of the line equipment, but we decided to go with a different brand due to previous issue with sister company of their brand.

They were very prompt, courteous, and the staff was wonderful! They came back out a second time in July 2007 and there was no charge at all for service or for the replacement part.
