Description of Work: We had one specific question at the forefront: Do you have your own trucks or do you contract out? Martin assured us they did not contract out and that the same moving team would be with us throughout. We asked for a 24 hour window since we were waiting in Nashville (from Chicago) to complete the move to Louisiana since they told us it could take up to 10 business days. Had been in Nashville one full day when we got a call at 7PM that they would be in Louisiana at 9AM the following day. We had a 9-10 hour drive so we had to pack and drive all night. When we got here it was a different company altogether. They were kind enough; that wasn't the issue. We had 3 pieces of furniture damaged. We called Martin and he said he had no control over that and gave us a number for damage claims. We called and they said they would send out paperwork. That was 3 weeks ago and we haven't received anything nor heard from them. Just be aware that Martin is just a broker and once the sale is done you're on your own. It appears they will tell you whatever you need to hear to get your business. The gentlemen on both ends of the move were professional and careful and we tipped them. But now we're in a position of having damaged furniture and it doesn't appear that anyone wants to take responsibility. To Martin: "say what you mean and mean what you say". A company/man is only as good as his word. Disappointed.

We apologize for the damages incurred during your move. Our claims are processed by a separate company but we'll send you a copy of the claims form today via email as well. In terms the moving service provided, we are a full service moving company handling moves both locally in the Chicagoland area as well as cross country. We are in no way a broker. Often, moving companies will work together and combine shipments if another company we work closely with is able to deliver to a particular area a bit quicker than we can. We only use trusted associates whom we've built long term relationships with and have full confidence in their quality of service. In the case of this particular move, we performed the pick up using our own employees and truck but the delivery was performed by another carrier. We apologize for the short notice on delivery as well. Our paperwork asks each customer to list the first date they will be available in their homes and we start counting from that date. In this particular situation, with you being out of town, we probably should not have started the delivery spread until you were home and ready to accept the shipment. We try to give as much notice as possible but often aren't certain of the exact date for delivery until the day before. Again, we are very sorry about the damages and a claims form will be sent out to you via email shortly.

Description of Work: Everything was very good except that they needed 2 consecutive days to choose from for picking up items to move. Because I was paying for them to go to 2 moving places for items, the homeowners at the 2 homes had trouble coordinating dates. They initially agreed on the first week of October, but that did not work out for the moving company. It took almost 2 months to agree on a time. I had expected my things in early to middle of October instead of the end of November.

Thank you for your feedback. It can often be tricky trying to coordinate when there is more than one pick up or delivery location and several people involved. In reviewing the notes in your file, it looks like the pick up was originally scheduled between 10/24 - 10/26. When our dispatcher called to confirm pickup on 10/23 for the following day, you indicated that nobody was available during that window and the move would need to be postponed. A week later, the move was rescheduled for a pick up window of 11/7 - 11/9. We picked up on 11/7 and delivered on 11/21. In this case, it doesn't appear as though any delay that occurred with your move was due to a scheduling issue on our end. Glad we were able to get it done for you though. Description of Work: The representatives sent by STI to load were professional and did a good job. |STI was given extra consideration because they would "store" the furniture for up to one month for little or no charge. |We were told we would be given 1-2 days notice of delivery. We were not. We were given approximately 12 hours notice on a Saturday evening. |We were up with the movers unloading until 2 A.M. Sunday morning. |Furniture was damaged boxes were shredded,and five boxes didn't make it at all. |Unless you pay an extra $1500-2000 for insurance you have very few good choices when damage and loss occur. They pay only 62 cents per pound for damages which I understand is the industry standard. |They never responded to my inquiry regarding the damages and lost boxes. |I wonder if they would have been more careful if we spent an extra $1500-$2000 for the "special" insurance? Unfortunately probably so. |

STI was very responsive and accommodating. There was a miscommunication on the initial moving date and they came a day early while I was flying home from vacation. When I realized the date was wrong, I called the next morning and they lined up movers the next day for me without any drama. The arrived on time and worked diligently without any issues. When we initially moved into our 4th floor walk up condo 7 years ago with different movers, they complained the entire time. Not the case with STI Movers, very professional. They were right on with their estimate and did a great job with our furniture, spent time wrapping it to ensure it made the trip safely.

After being skeptical and frantically searching for movers who would move my stuff from MI to AZ, I finally used Angies List to find someone. STI movers had a good rating on angies list but other places there ratings were questionable. I still reached out to them and received a call from Tom. he explained the whole process in a very good way and let me know everything upfront nothing hidden as most others were doing. and I paid the $200 deposit. The Pickup was delayed by 1 day, as the truck they had sent had some technical issues. this did cause me some mental agony but again kudos to Tom who kept in touch and communicated well. Storage was free for 30 days and done well, as none of the boxes were dented or had any water damage. The Drop was done within the stipulated time however they sent a Semi to an apartment complex which could not park nearby, so i ended up paying $120 more to the guys to haul it from the main road to my apartment. The condition of the stuff was excellent and nothing was broken except one of my love seat had a penny size tear on the edges. but then again i packed my stuff so i don't really blame STI for that I should have been more careful. There boxed were not dented, LED TV and Glass table were in excellent condition. so i believe a lot of proper handling went in which is good, It was a great move and I would like to thank STI for being so awesome. so hassles do come in such interstate moves but on the whole i would use STI again and also recommend them to anyone who wants to do a move.

I understand that we have had a lackluster review from this customer and I want to clarify some points. They said that we were late at pick- up and delivery but, my records indicate this was never the case. We agreed upon picking up this shipment on 6/29/12 in Schaumburg IL and that is what we did. Based on my paperwork, that I have attached, we did do the pick up on the day they wanted. As for delivery we give a 10 business days window from their first available date. The customer put down 7/9/12 as the first day they are able to accept the delivery and we delivered the shipment on 7/20/12. I understand that it was the last day in their delivery spread but it was delivered within the 10 business days that we both agreed upon. In terms of broken or damaged items I encourage them to call our claims dept. and they will be able to reimburse the customer for the damages. After I requested an estimate online, sti movers contacted me. I gave them a very precise list of what furniture I needed moved: a queen-sized bed, a twin bed, a small tv, a glass coffee table, a dining table and four chairs and two small bookshelves. They emailed an estimate of $650 which seemed very fair to me. After I accepted their bid, they billed my Visa for $200 and said the remainder was due when the furniture was returned to a different condo. On the day we had agreed to have the furniture collected, they called me and said they needed to arrive a few hours earlier than we had agreed. It wasn't convenient, but I need the furniture removed that day so I had my adult daughter meet them at the condo. Immediately there were extra costs--extra charges for wrapping each bed, extra charges for packaging the small tv and the glass coffee table. My daughter was given two choices--sign to agree to an extra $200 charge or lose the deposit and they wouldn't take the furniture. Needless to say, she felt stuck accepting the extra charges. I called and complained to the management who told me that they were well within their rights to charge extra for packaging. I kept repeating that I had told them about all of those items BEFORE I got the estimate and any extra charges should have been included in the estimate. They kept saying that it was an ESTIMATE. When it was time for me to get my furniture, the movers told me there were extra charges due to my condo being on the second floor--once again something they had been told before the original estimate. They said I had to pay the remaining $1000 in cash before I could get the furniture. Of course I didn't have $1000 in cash in my pocket. I offered to write a check, but they didn't accept checks. It was my understanding that I could charge my Visa as I had with the down payment. Oh--a credit card? That will cost another 3%, they said. Because they had all my furniture, I had no option but to keep paying. In short, they took good care of my furniture, picked up and delivered on the days I requested, but a $650 estimate ended up costing me $1200 in actuality. I would never use them again.

AMAZING! These guys are the best. This is the third time we have used them for an in-town move and they have yet to disappoint! This time, they arrived at 6:30am, and promptly got to work. They wrap and and move at your direction, what you say goes. They have broken nothing of ours - and are quick to point out scratched or broken items prior to wrapping them for transport.I am elated with this moving company. I recommend them to everyone I know. I know multiple people who had great experiences with these guys, and none with bad experiences, I wonder why more people do not give them rave reviews on Angies List. There is no other moving company I would hire for a local move. Call STI, they do a great job, on time and fast

I went through a lot of quotes with other companies before deciding on this one. They were very professional and provided a contract explaining everything. On the day of the move, the crew arrived on time and got started right away. They moved everything very quickly and wrapped furniture that needed it. All in all, they took much less time than was quoted (which cost us less money) and were very professional. I would use them again.

I am planning to move from Chicago to Springfield, IL, so I started STI Movers' online assessment and submitted info, without a complete box count. The company emailed me at least twice, once with a quote for delivery to Springfield, stating my cost could be around $800. I believe they called more than once w/o leaving a message. I was not hooked on the quoted price for a 450 mile round trip service. So, I wanted an in house quote to minimize sticker shock on moving day. I called, and while on hold the phone system touted that STI handled long distance moves. Also while on hold, I reviewed their Web site again and it clearly stated how they handle all sorts of moves including long distance. I spoke with a rep and I relayed my need to the man and after many ah-ah-ahs he said that Springfield was far so ah-ah-ah ... I said so you cannot do it. He said ya. I am leary of positive reviews of this company. Are they real or are they provided by this company's staff who are members of Angie's List???? It is so-o-o-o hard to find good help!

Their only saving grace was a woman by the name of Beverly who was extremely cordial on the phone; however because she was new seemed to be slightly out of the loop. I had scheduled them to show up between 8 and 10am to move everything out of my apartment. At 9am, Beverly contacted me to make sure I was aware that because I was using a credit card, there was a service charge, which I was happy she contacted me to let me know. I told her that was fine, to go ahead and charge the credit card ($1000) and asked if they were still planning on showing up to move me between 8 and 10 in which she said yes. At 10:40, she contacted me again to ask if I was still planning on moving that day, in which I said of course, I just paid you $1000. She said that the company wasn't sure and that they would have a crew out there within the hour. By noon, my patience was beginning to run thin and I contacted them again, in which to ask what the hold up was and was told they would be arriving within 30 minutes. At 2pm, fed up, I contacted another company who was more than obliged to give me a very similar price and come out later that day. Finally, at approximately 2:30pm, two movers finally showed up and were less than cordial. I explained to them that they were supposed to be there 4.5 hours earlier and they told me that I should be happy they showed up at all. I spoke with Beverly again, who was very apologetic and explained to me that even though I had spoken with them on numerous occasions that day I was in the wrong for cancelling the move. I immediately contacted my credit card company and prevented the $1000 from being charged; however STI blamed me for their lateness and refused to refund my $200. If you're a gambler in Vegas and feel lucky, by all means try your luck with STI; however if you want to save yourself the hassle and frustration I went through, find someone else!!!

I had planned for them to show up in the morning to move everything out of my apartment and move forward.
