We were very satisfied. Mike used his years of experience to safely install a complicated, non standard European fixture. He seemed to enjoy the challenge and we were very happy with the results. We are impressed with the consistent level of service we continue to receive from North Shore Electric.
Description of Work: NSE removed 2 fixtures and then installed 2 new fixtures. Also added a dimmer switch for one of the fixtures.

Everything went great. Nora communicated thoroughly, the estimator came when scheduled, the work was done when they said it would be. The quality looks excellent. The new outlet was put in a highly visible, wallpapered wall. Everything looks good and works well.
Description of Work: Run a 220 line for a window air conditioner. It had to run through the basement, out an exterior stucco wall, along the wall and back through the wall. There was no receptacle there so they had to install one.

went very well. Very pleasant and careful to explain what he was doing and why. Neatened up prior electrician's work. Made good suggestions about what I or someone else could do to improve other sockets. Was quick and efficient, but took time to answer questions. Cleaned up what little mess there was. Did work within initial one hour service call, so I paid only one hour charge plus materials.
Description of Work: checked and replaced malfunctioning GFI socket and and wired in an adjacent subordinate socket.

North Shore did all the planning, including arranging the city permit and initiating contact with the gas company to ensure adequate gas service. They came on time, did the work as promised and arranged the follow-up city inspection. I especially appreciated how little damage was done to existing walls and ceilings, considering that they had to run an extension of the natural gas line and install a new electric panel, all running to the generator located outside the house. And they cleaned up afterwards!
Description of Work: Installed a gas-powered back-up generator.

I didn't find the receptionist friendly, but the electrician came on time and performed the jobs quickly and efficiently. I had called primarily because my outdoor lights weren't working. I had no problems with his work, only with the bill. He replaced a part of my 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch. He was done within an hour, but the bill was $195.00, meaning he charged over $90 for a little part. The whole unit runs about $70 as far as I can tell from prices on-line. I tried to question the bill in the office, but to no avail. No, I won't call North Shore again.
Description of Work: He adjusted the fixtures on 2 light bulbs that weren't working, and he repaired a mechanical time switch connected to my outdoor lights. He also closed the outdoor telephone box that was dangling.

North Shore gave us a competitive quote for installing the light, which we bought. They called ahead of time, came when they said they'd come. They also installed an outside power outlet (at no extra charge), for things like an electric lawn mower, Christmas lights. They finished around 4:00 pm. The light works fine. I recommend them. They are really professional.

I called on a weekend and spoke with a very nice man who obtained the details of the projects. He was unable to schedule an appointment at that time as the scheduler was not available over the weekend. I received a phone call on Monday from the scheduler and set up and appointment for the following week. I was quoted $75 an hour plus materials with the anticipation that it would take 2-3 hours to complete the projects. I had received other quotes from contractors and electricians who provided similar quotes. I received a message from NSE on Monday April 28th but was unable to return their call until Tuesday April 29th. I returned the phone call and she said she was calling to confirm the appt for Wednesday morning. She asked if I was at work and I said "Yes, did you have a cancellation? She said yes and if I was available at 2pm that she "could send two guys over". It was 1:30pm and the earliest I couldy make it home was between 2:15pm and 2:30pm. I pulled up to the house just behind the NSE van at 2:15ish. They promptly got started and found that a handyman we had hired to put in additional electric in the garage had tapped in to the junction box of the old welder lines. In order to make the electric safe again, they would need to put in another 20amp line. They completed all the work and finished around 4:30pm. I thought all had gone well until I received the bill in the mail a couple of days later. Based on quotes that I had obtained from other companies and the rate and time NSE quoted me, I was expected a bill for $300-350. I was shocked and disgusted to find a bill for $916.84. The invoice only included my comments from the initial phone call and line item for parts and one for labor. I called and asked for a itemized bill, which they emailed to me within several hours. I was billed at $150 an hour for the 2 workers they sent. All the other quotes I received were for a one man job which was what was the implication when I set up the initial appointment. I feel like I paid for double the labor costs because I agreed to move the appointment up a day because they had a "2 man job" that cancelled. If they sent 2 men to complete our projects, they should have finished in half the time quoted - that was my expectation. I feel that the communication between NSE and the customer (me) was poor. I should have asked more questions about the cost of materials (instead of assuming the costs would be similar to that of other companies) and I should have requested an overall anticipated cost of the job (although I had an hourly rate and estimated hours to complete the job). I feel "dooped" by NSE and will not use them again. NSE should be more clear when providing quotes on their hourly rate (how many men will they send for the job) and on anticipated cost of materials. I paid NSE but I am still absolutely disgusted and will not use or recommend them again. I learned my lesson, I will be more diligent in gathering more detailed information about the cost of a job.

It amounted to 60% versus what everybody else quoted me. Did the job WHEN he did the diagnosis, so I didn't have top wait days for him to return and do the job. Hired him on the spot based on earlier Angie's List recommendations. He may also be able to save me more because the work he did may fall under the coverage provided by the phone provider.

The installation took about an hour, and he was very careful to leave the area clean when he left. He installed the new phone for us, so we were very happy with the service.
Description of Work: He installed a telephone jack in the room in which my handicapped husband sits. He had to string the telephone line from the basement all the way upstairs, through the walls, and into the new room. We had received a free telephone from Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation that is amplified, but we had no jack to plug it into.

We are very happy with our generator installation experience. These guys arrived on time for the estimate and on-time for the work. We got a very detailed explanation and written estimate with itemized costs. I wanted the Kohler generator (instead of a Generac) for its superior power quality (cleaner power) and reliability. I paid a few hundred extra for the pre-cast concrete pad (GenPad) that the generator sits on (vs just a gravel base). I'm very glad I got it - it looks great plus peace of mind. There were other upgrades that I didn't buy (software for remote monitoring, etc.), so your cost may vary. There were no surprises or cost overruns. We paid half the price up front (so they could buy the generator) and the second half after installation. They took care of the whole permit process. During the installation, the guys were very professional. Everything was square, plumb and level, from the concrete pad to the new subpanel in the basement. The mess was cleaned up perfectly. The install took a long, full day. Inspection was a breeze. If you're in the market for a standby generator, we highly recommend this company. Is it wrong to be disappointed that our power hasn't gone out yet?!?

The guys from North Shore Electric are the best! They were prompt, professional, and worked extremely neatly. I am thrilled with the work they did and how fantastic the rooms look now that they have adequate lighting! The cost is on the high side but they had to drill through concrete to do some of the wiring. This wasn't a quick and easy job. These guys were great - thanks Leovy!

They arrived close to the time given to me. The recesssed can lights they brought with them were to tall to fit in the ceiling space. They made a phone call and smaller ones arrived later in the day. They completed the work including clean up in about 5 1/2 hours. They brought drop cloths and did a good job cleaning up the mess in the kitchen. I only had to do a small plaster patch around 1 of the kitchen recessed cans. Both workers were really nice and informative.
Description of Work: Kitchen: Installed 5 new recessed cans lights. Replace old ceiling figure in eating area with a new chandlier (provided by me) and installed a dimmer switch. We lost power to half our house twice in one week and so I called to schedule an appointment to investigate the problem.
