The flooring is as advertised. No complaint there. The workmen did a good job with the installation, however, they did not clean up very well afterward. There was dust on the furniture and on the floor. Also, the owner did not follow-up with me afterward or come by to inspect the work.

Returned phone call within half-hour of leaving message and came next day to provide estimate. Mike and his crew were a pleasure to work with and the floors look beautiful. Had some water stained areas in front of the front door that they noted and offered to replace the wood if I wished. I chose not to replace the boards and let them refinish the area as best they could since a rug is now usually over this location. They did a wonderful job sanding the area and the stain is hardly noticeable. Job was completed within the timetable agreed to. Would, and have, recommended them to others.

Mike was very responsive, courteous, and helpful. His team did an excellent job with our floors - they look terrific! They were helpful with choosing the best stain color, and they started and finished when they said they would. I got quotes from two other flooring companies, and Mike's was the best price for the most square footage overall, and overall, I would say they did a great job. We only had two hiccups: First, they forgot to install a piece of trim, but had already finished staining the floors when I noticed it, so they told me they would have to return the next day when the stain was dry so they could replace it. They arrived a couple of hours later than expected the next day to fix it, so the painters we had hired had already finished painting, which meant that that piece of trim did not get painted by the pros. Not a huge deal, but a pain in the but when paying for professionals to paint. The other thing I would note is that there were floor-stain handprints/marks on our toilets, sinks, and linoleum after the crew had left. I get that they are going to need to use the bathroom while they work, but I am going to have to find something to take floor stain out of our bathroom fixtures now. I feel that they could have been more aware and done a better job cleaning up the streaks.

Overall very smooth. The estimate was comparable to other ones we got. They started on the date promised and got the work done in the timeframe they told us. The floors were refinished very well; these are old floors and they did some work to fill holes, etc. They came back to fix one spot the same day I called. The owner and the team were both easy to work with. I would recommend them.

The work went very well. I was impressed with the final quality of the hardwood flooring. Mike's crew finished the entire project in one day. They replaced several oak boards that were damaged by the previous owner. I would hire Mike's crew again. I highly recommend Mike's crew.

I bought a Big Deal-- my living room and dining room floors were pretty exactly the amount of square footage included. They needed refinishing when we bought this house, 30 years ago, but we never managed to do it. Until now. As you can imagine, they were stained, worn-- and there were some boards that would keep popping up where they went over a bulge in the floor where there once was a wall. I didn't schedule right away, then when I was ready, it took a long time before Mike's had time. That was a bit frustrating. They had a few cancellations but I was not able to take advantage of them because there was not enough notice for me to be able to get everything out of the rooms in time. But when the day finally arrived, George and Ramon got to work, and worked very diligently. They were able to screw down the loose boards, saving me money over replacement.They did a beautiful sanding job, getting right up to the baseboards without damaging them in the least. They blended all the sanding so you cannot tell where they hand scraped, where they used the big sander, or where the small one. After two coats of finish, the floor looks almost like a brand new floor-- but better, because this old 1932 oak is very hard. There was almost no dust-- really astonishingly little-- and the smell was only bad for a few hours after the first coat. I couldn't be happier, and expect to hire them again when I am ready to refinish the bedrooms.

I paid some additional amount apart from the deal for some board replacement. I have used them before. They were very responsive. They were able to accommodate my schedule which was crazy. I was moving and I needed them before the movers came. They sent a team of guys to do the job.

These guys were great. I called on Tuesday and they came out that afternoon to give estimate. I had expected to sand and stain all of the rooms mentioned, but the estimator told me that two of the rooms only need to be buffed and finished (at a much lower cost to me). A contractor saving you money, gotta like that. Originally, they were going to start on the following Monday, but I got a call on Wednesday saying that they had a cancellation, and that they could get started on Thursday. They started on Thursday, and we were walking on near new floors by Sunday (they applied the final coat on Saturday morning). Highly recommended.

Generally met expectations. The installers worked hard and dilligently. Finished job within prescribed time frame with no issues\drama. Some minor missteps on start time on day 1 caused some stress. Otherwise, I am happy with the outcome. New floors make a huge difference to the look of the rooms.

They did a fine job refinishing the floors in three rooms of our house. They did specially good work in our master bedroom, which had obviously been done previously by an amateur - gouges and swirl marks everywhere. The workers were professional and detail oriented, and we would certainly use the company again. Our only hesitation is more of a cautionary tale of buying an Angie's List coupon. We bought a coupon for $545 that was good for two rooms up to a certain size. One of the bedrooms was a larger size, and we then had them also do our kitchen - and the price ended up at $1,900. So, we don't have a sense anymore, whether the price we ended up paying was a good deal - that is, doing it this way we never did compare estimates with any other companies.

Mike's Hardwood Flooring did a terrific job. The new floor looks great. I could not be more pleased. The project was completed on time in a workmanlike manner. Mike was very helpful in assisting me pick out an engineering hardwood that was to my liking. Since I am not from the Chicago area, he provided directions to a nearby warehouse where I could compare the wood to a good selection of other similar hardwoods. What impressed me the most about Mike, however, was that despite running into a few problems with respect to obtaining approval from our homeowners' association, Mike did not give up on the project, but hung in there with me and was persistent in satisfying each of the homeowners' associations requests. I would not hesitate to contact him in the future if the need should arise.

They showed up on time (7:30 am) each day. Also, they moved all the appliances back with no fuss on the third day. They were a bit late the third day but called ahead of time to let me know. The floor looks great.

We just bought a house and wanted to re-do the floors before we moved in. This was a large job w/ lots of wooden floors on the 1st floor (LR, DR, Kit, Family area) and 3 bdrms & hallway upstairs. Mike showed up on-time for the job estimate and talked with us about what was the best option for our floors. We had a few weeks advanced notice, so he was able to accommodate our preferred start date. The entire job took 3 days. Mike & team showed up on-time on Day 1. Worked straight thru till Day 3. Overall we thought he & his team did a wonderful job. The finished product looks great! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to family/friends. If I had to find one small negative, it was the job cleanup was about 90% done. There was still some dust on the walls and other surfaces. With the amount of work done - it's understandable. I don't view it as a major problem.

Mike and his crew did a fantastic job with floors. This was a tough assignment given our timeline. We wanted to have everything done before we moved in and also had to coordinate with a different crew who was going to work on painting our kitchen and cabinets. George led most of the effort and they worked hard doing everything humanly possible to get the job done in a tight window (6-7 days). They worked long hours - past 8PM on some days and over the July 4th weekend. The 2nd floor needed more work than anticipated once all of the carpet was pulled up. Unfortunately this made the job last longer, but we prioritized the lower level and kitchen so other work could be completed before we moved in. Overall I was very happy and would use again.

I got this company from Angie's List and the price they charge was reasonable. They came when they promise they would and they had to strip and refinish old wooden flooring and then deal with some thing problem and so on. we had a really good experience with them. There was carpet over the old floor and when they pulled it up they found several areas that have bad stains. So, original idea about re-staining the floor isn't gonna work. I had a good experience that him recommending a darker color and showing us option. I would really recommend them.

Contractor specifically asked about how to handle transition on floor between the dining room and living room. We told him we wanted a line at the doorway. He did the opposite and did the transition at the wood plank boundaries, so now we have an uneven pattern on the floor. They made no attempt to match the floors on either side and the floor has a rough grainy texture whereas all of the other floors in the house are smooth. The floor is gouged at the transition where they sanded along the wood floor planks. We contacted the company and Mike told us that the floor would 'fade' and that the difference in color would disappear and match the other rooms. We waited until March, but it still looks terrible. We contacted Mike again a he set an appointment for July 9th, which was many weeks away. My husband took off of workout to be at home and he did not show or call. We contacted him again and he offered to reschedule, but the floor looks like crap and we expected better service and if they had done what we asked for initially and explained the expected result better we would not be in this position. I have little confidence that we will get resolution and would prefer to hire another contractor because this one has already wasted alot of our time and taken our money for work that will have to be re-done. This is the first time that we have had a wood floor refinished and expected the contractor to be the expert. Lesson learned - wood floor refinishing is complicated and the contractor needs to know what they are doing. I would never pay in full upfront again for this kind of work. We are probably going to have to re-do this floor and 3 additional rooms to get the floors to match at a cost of several thousands of dollars.. I would not recommend this contractor. Bad service, bad information and unprofessional.

Mike, Carlos and team did a fantastic job with all aspect of our demo and installation. Customer service was excellent. We closed on our house and needed the installation to be completed before our furniture arrived from out of state. The team worked late into the nights to accommodate our very tight time frame. The existing carpeting was old, worn, and smelled terrible. The crew of four guys removed it, cut it up, rolled, and taped it into three foot bundles in about a half a day. There was existing finished hardwood in our entry and kitchen. The guys did a seamless job at incorporating and tying in the new flooring at the transitions into the dining room and living room. I can't tell the difference between the existing and new flooring. The bedrooms and stairs also look amazing.

I contact Mike about 1 year ago, prior to moving into my new house. The house had harwood floors throughout except the kitchen. He came out and gave me an estimate immediately. He started the work and promised to finish before my move in date. It was close, but he finished everything and the house was ready to move in. After one year, we decided to refinish the kitchen. We contacted someone at Costco to come in and give an estimate in June. The person took so long to contact us. Then gave all these excuses why they hadn't called sooner...etc. etc. So I called Mike (whom I should have called first) and he came out within a day- gave me an estimate. I told him there were hardwood flooring under the kitchen, but wasn't sure if it was able to work. He wrote up two estimates, one replacing all the floors, one using an existing floor. I changed the date on Mike, but he was totally fine. We were going out of town, so I assumed that would be the best. He said it may take 2-5 days. They came out on date agreed on, and his guys removed existing floor and we knew the existing floor couldn't be sanded. So we decided to put in new wood. We had one issue if we were to add new wood, the refriderator would not fit back into the existing place. We could not cut into the cabinet, unless there was a carpenter there. Mike they would not be able to hook the plumbing back up to a refrigerator if it had to be moved to another room. So there was a dilemma. It would have been a pain. At first, I thought he was just saying that it was a lot of work (sales thing) but he was right. He let his crew know that they had to sand the floor down to a certain height where the refridgerator would go in order for it to fit. It is tight, but they made it work. It was one of those things that only a professional would know. I know that other company would not have said anything about that, and my refrigerator would be stuck in my dining room until my cabinets were removed. Needless to say, I am so happy. They did all the things I asked. I even made a last minute change. They were professional and even finished the work in 3 days! I would use them again in a heartbeat! If you use Mike, you will not be disappointed.

Mike's crew came in on a Monday. There were 4 guys the first day. They did a great job of putting up plastic covering the cabinets, etc. We moved all our furniture, in our living room. I was worried how they could contain all the dust as the entry way has high ceilings and there is a stairway open to the living room. Somehow, they put plastic up blocking off this area, Keeping the dust out. We decided to attempt to stay in the house, since our master bedroom/ bathroom is on the first floor with an exterior door to the deck and the backyard. With 2 small dogs, it was the best option. The weather cooperated, and we were able to keep the windows open during the job. When the stain was being put on, we went outside because of the odor. The odor of the finish wasn't as bad. With the windows open, and a couple of fans, we were fine. We were able to walk on the floor with socks, Wednesday night, and move our furniture in on Thursday. Our oak floors had taken a lot of abuse with kids and several dogs through the years. The stain was completely worn off in some areas, and some boards had gaps between them. Mike's crew replaced 2 boards, and did an amazing job sanding out the worn areas to look like new. The crew worked very hard and were focused on their jobs. The communication was great about what was happening and advising us of what to expect next. Upon completion, the floors looked great. There wasn't much cleanup needed after moving back into these rooms. I highly recommend Mike's Hardwood Flooring. They made the whole process easy.

I called Mike almost 11 months after I purchased my Angie's List deal for two rooms of hardwood floors refinished for $545. He seemed nice and arranged to come and look at the floors to evaluate the job. I was at work when he came by and he called me from my home to ascertain what I wanted done. I said I wanted two rooms of floors refinished, two small bedrooms (approx. 11x12 and 10x11). He asked about my living room and the hallway, which lies between the two bedrooms, suggesting they also be refinished. But I didn't want to have those done as there would be no place to put all of the living room furniture. (I actually thought he'd throw in the small hallway since the bedrooms were so small, but he didn't. I said I'd do the other rooms some other time; perhaps when he had another deal. But he said only one deal per household.) I told him I wanted the floors stained to the same color as the living room and hallway, but he told me it would be an additional $400 which I didn't want to pay, so I said never mind. He gave me an appointment for the work about 2 weeks later. Two young men arrived almost 2 hours later than the scheduled arrival time. The lead guy's name was George, I believe. The other young man didn't seem to speak English. George looked over the rooms and asked what kind of finish I wanted - glossy or satin. I decided on the satin finish. One of my rooms had some oily stains on the floor and he explained that he'd try but couldn't guarantee that he'd be able to remove them. My mom and I sat in another part of the house while they did the work. It took them approx. 3.5 hours. After sanding the room with the stain on the floor, George showed me that he was not able to remove all of the stain. He explained that he had worked it down as far as he could and any more sanding would damage the finish. But it looked very nice just the same (and I plan to put an area rug in the room anyway). After completing the job, George suggested I leave the windows open in the rooms for several hours to clear the odor. He also gave me suggestions for cleaning the floors. Overall, they did a good job. My floors were in really bad shape and they look very nice now. But I think I could get just as good work from another refinisher. The draw for me was the deal.

Wonderful. Even though Mike used a sub-contractor or employee to do the work it was perfect. The color is exactly what we wanted and the transition between the old and new floors is seamless. You can't even tell they were put in over 20 years apart. We also had a very tight time frame. Mike was able to start the day after we hired him and finished out 1200 sq foot condo in 4 or 5 days. Overall it was an awesome experience and I highly recommend him.

Mike, George, and the team were awesome. I have used them before to put a new floor in my kitchen and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I would recommend them to anyone interested in a beautiful hardwood floor at a fair price. When we moved into our house two and a half years ago there was an engineered wood floor in our living room and dining room. We took up a couple of rows and found that there was a hardwood floor under it. We knew the floor would be in bad shape, so we had Mike's come out to re-finish it. Long story short, the floor was in awful shape (which is why the previous owners put the engineered wood there in the first place). When Mike looked at it he told me that he couldn't re-finish it and have it look nice. On the fly, Mike gave me an estimate to put a new floor down in the living room and dining room and re-finish the floor in the office so that they would all match. The price was more than competitive. There was around 500 square feet of new flooring, around 200 square feet of floor to re-finish, and the removal of the old, unusable hardwood. Mike and his team did the whole job for $4,550. George actually led the team doing the work in the house. He was prompt, courteous and professional. He made sure that the work that he was doing worked with our family's schedule. He did a great job letting me know my options at every choice point and he was very responsive to any questions. Where the new hardwood floors met existing floor George and his team staggered the boards so that it looked like the whole floor was laid at the same time. Mike and George talked to me and my wife about which type of finish to use considering our kids and timeline. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of the work. The whole job took three days and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. We have beautiful floors and we've added to our enjoyment of the house and the value of the house, too.

I had these guys stain the oak floor in our new home. They did a fantastic job and other workers that have come in my home have also commented on how good a job was done. They got it don't very fast and did a great clean up. Highly recommended!

The floors are beautiful! Mike's team did a great job, even around tricky areas like the radiators. Mike was able to start the job shortly after I contacted him which was awesome. His team was working on a couple other jobs so there hours at my house changed a lot but mike was always available by phone to answer questions or give updates. His team worked very late one night to try to get the job done within the week. They really did a nice job sanding everything and applying 3 costs of finish. The team was very knowledgable about finishes and helped me select a finish that highlights the grain. The floors squeak less and look like brand new floors!

Mike came to the house and gave an estimate and told us what would be done. We had three estimates done and Mike's was around the same price as the other two. The wood was dropped off a week before the job started. Regarding the furniture removal and placement back into the house, we felt they were very careful with the furniture to make sure nothing was damaged. They put the furniture in our garage on the carpeting they removed from the house instead of putting it on the garage floor - nice touch. After the first day, I was a little concerned that some blinds and cabinets were not covered enough to minimize the dust, and called Mike to tell him about it. He made sure that the next day when the crew came that everything was taken care of to my satisfaction. The house was cleaned up when they left each day since we were living in the house while the work was being done. Any questions or concerns we had, Mike and/or his crew responded promptly - they were a pleasure to work with and we felt they took alot of pride in their work. We love the new floors and we would definitely recommend and use them in the future.
