Mike's Hardwood Flooring Inc

We first met with Mike at his showroom to pick out the flooring and he offered a lot of knowledge on the available products, wood varieties, etc. We selected a 3 and 1/4" hard maple with a clear water-based polyurethane finish. He then came to our home to do the measurements and discuss/write the contract. The work was then schedule to begin about 3 weeks later. Mike sent 2 guys to do the job. It took 1 day for them to tear up the old carpet and install the new floorboards, and an additional 4 days to apply the finish and install the baseboards. We did run into issues with the polyurethane application, but Mike was very responsive and quickly worked to fix the problem (they had to re-do the last layer of finish, twice). Even with these finishing issues, we were pleased with the level of service Mike provided and would recommend his company to others.

Excellent job,very clean, covered everything, very little dust. Mike saw things other flooring people did not. Like removing old room dividers to make the new installed look seamless. Mikes crew were very hard workers who where very accomadating, they worked very long hours to get the job done on time. I would recommend them to everyone. Very happy with their work and price.

Mike's flooring was a bit more expensive than other companies but I got the feeling he was very experienced and professional. And I was right! They did a flawless job.

Fantastic! Mike was knowledgeable over the phone and I could tell he knew his stuff. I asked if they do jobs so small and he was able to fit me in right away. His guys were professional, skilled, neat and efficient. It looks perfect! Mike quoted me $250 to install and level. I added an extra $50 because they sanded too and did a great job. It would have been a pain for me to sand it and they did a better job. I will use Mike's Hardwood Flooring again and highly recommend them.

This is the second time we worked with Mike, and this time was just as good as the last. Our first job with Mike (in 2012) involved refinishing existing wood floors throughout our house, except the family room. His work was high quality and detailed, and ended up looking beautiful. So we called again when it was time to install wood in our family room. Mike came and gave a detailed estimate and we talked through the little things that others overlook: damaged baseboards, transitions between the wood and nearby tile, etc. After we got our estimate and approved it, Mike scheduled the work quickly. His team showed up on time all three days of the job, and they worked HARD. They also kept the worksite neat and tidy, and even when they worked late the first night they took the time to clean everything up before they left. In three days the entire job was complete and looked beautiful. In fact, during the course of the job, they realized that the old wood floor under the old carpet was damaged and uneven, and they needed to change plans and tear it up so the finished job would be perfect. Mike didn't charge me extra for the unanticipated work; just did it so the final room would look as good as it should. I think Mike is a real craftsman and a perfectionist, and I'd recommend him to anyone. He isn't the cheapest provider but he prices fairly -- why would you cheap out on something this important?

Mike came out and gave me a quote and was able to start work within about 10 days, which was good because I was up against a deadline. The two guys who came out worked very hard in hot conditions (July) and finished the job (4 bedrooms) in 2 days. The installation work was a very good quality.The oak planks had a few more dark streaks than the wood in the hallway which had been installed a few years ago; I don't know why. But the floors look really nice. The guys moved the beds and large furniture, and helped me install coasters under them when they put them back, which really helped a lot. They finished and I looked it over before I handed them the check and found that one of the closet doors had not been re-hung. Turned out that they couldn't find a necessary piece to re-hang the door. They went out and got a replacement piece and brought it back and finished the work that same night. Also, the Angie's list deal had included removal and disposal of the carpet. Although Mike had initially quoted a charge for it, when I brought the language of the deal to his attention he apologized and immediately took that charge off. All in all I was very happy with the work and with the whole experience.

The work was scheduled promptly and finished in one day. I could not be more pleased with the results; my floors are beautiful.

Mike's Hardwood was really great to deal with. He managed to work our job in at short notice, (we called Friday night & he was able to have someone at the house at 7:00am Tuesday morning). The team that came was headed up by Dorin, and he was great. After walking through the job, which took about 20min, his crew got to work and the result a few days later was fanastic. Floors look great, and they completed the job as we discussed. They were also flexible with payment due to issues with a bank holiday. I would hire them again.

His product was superb. He took a lot of interest in getting the type of finish that would be best for our house. We were operating on a very tight schedule, from the time we closed on the house to the time we were moving in, and he met our schedule exactly. His workmen worked for a whole week, extremely long hours. They were very professional. Everything was done extremely well. There was one little problem and they came back to fix it with no problem. It looked excellent. People have asked me who did my floor, so it's obvious what a great job they did. I've recommended them to others.

It took longer than usual. The person I had didn't seem very experienced. Other than that, everything seemed okay. When it's humid, the wood rubs up against the front door so that is something we still have to fix.

I had already purchased the wood and acclimated it for several weeks in my home when I called Mike. His team sanded down some of my subfloor to flatten it out, and used both glue and nails to install the 5" maple boards. It wasn't an easy installation job, and they did a great job with the installation proper - there were no gaps visible when they finished, and Mike planned well for the installation, telling them to start at the fireplace so they would have full boards around the hearthstone. They also did a good job of applying the finish, which was smooth and bubble free, with very few hairs stuck in it (I found only 1 or 2 in the year after the install). However, their choice of finish was a big problem. I had told Mike that the whole reason I was replacing the old oak floors was because I wanted the floors to be white, not yellow. Mike used a finish called "Aqua-Amber" that adds yellow tone to the floor. He didn't know that it had that characteristic - he told me that it was recommended by someone at the place where he buys his finishes and he had been using it successfully for several years on many jobs. I have no doubt that was true, but what he clearly had NOT done was read the spec sheet for the product. He also didn't provide me with a sample board up front prior to the job. Mike agreed to refinish the floor for free, which is more than many contractors would have done, but which I was still not satisfied with because a floor can only be refinished 3-4 times, and I'm planning to stay in my home for a long time, so I may use up those refinishings in my time here. As a result, I felt he should also have refunded part of the cost of installation, since ultimately I was losing 1/3-1/4 of the value of the floor, but he refused and became irate when I pushed the point. He also refused even to handle the baseboard installation for free, which was another alternative I suggested since I would be waiting a few months for him to do the floors (because cracks had opened up over the winter and we had to wait for the cracks to close in summer before the refinishing) and I would not have access to carpenters in my house anymore by the time he did the refinishing. (Note: the cracking of the floors was at least partially and maybe wholly due to issues with my humidifier and due to me covering the vents during other construction, causing hot air to fan out over the floor, not due to poor installation. In an ideal world, Mike might have helped by having his team take moisture readings in the air and in the wood over a few days to be sure the moisture was steady in the house, and also have suggested that end of August was not a good time for the install but rather spring or fall would be better since the wood would be in the middle of expansion/contraction at that time, but I don't think that most installers, if any, would have done so, and certainly it's not his fault I covered the vents, so the cracks were not his fault). Mike's team did come back to refinish the floor as promised. However, on the morning planned for the refinishing, when I had already planned time off of work and cleared everything out of the room, Mike called and said that the guy who was supposed to do the job was sick and they would be doing the job a few days later instead. I called back and said that wasn't acceptable, and he was defensive but to his credit he did find another crew. That crew however did a casual job on the floor preparation - when they sanded down the floor, that brought the finishing nails from the first line of wood to the surface, and they didn't countersink the nails. They did apply putty where a few cracks had opened, but missed a spot at the edge of the floor just under the dishwasher where there was a largish crack where the floor met a 2 by 4. They also did not remove the trim pieces for the refrigerators and stove, nor did they sand effectively around these or along the baseboards, so there was a very noticeable yellow line all around the room and parts sticking out into the room after their sanding job. I had to sand all of that down by hand, and even in the end there is still yellow visible in some places. I did get a chance to countersink the nails because I had asked them to sand and finish on different days so I could get the floor bleached in between. I did the countersinking and puttying myself, and asked them only to sand down the putty before applying finish, but they then did an inadequate job of sanding the putty and also one of them walked across the sanded floor with dirty boots and then failed to sand off all of the boot marks before putting down a coat of finish. Additionally, they wore black socks for the job, and left many tiny black hairs on the floor when they put down the first coat of finish, so that I had to have them sand it off again to get the hairs out. Additionally, they did a terrible job of sanding around the baseboards. When I pointed out these issues (plus one more that I initially thought was their fault, but turned out not to be), Mike called me a liar and yelled at me before he had even seen what I was talking about. He then told me he didn't care, I shouldn't tell him how to do his job and I didn't know what I was talking about and he wasn't having his guys do anything to fix any of that. I said that his review would reflect it. Then he told his guys to have me sign a piece of paper saying I would give him an 'A' on Angie's List or would have to pay him $2500. When I refused to sign it, he had his guys leave my house to not complete the job. I texted him and said that I know he wants to do right by his customers, and I had not been planning to give him a B anyway, not an F, and would he please not abandon the job. He agreed to come back and his guys did then finish the job well, checking with me at each point for a quality inspection per my request (I requested this of the crewmembers themselves, not of Mike). I do think that Mike takes pride in his work and wants to do a good job. His teams are technically skilled and able to install floors effectively. However, the combination of Mike not reading the spec sheet for the product, the guys who came to refinish the floors lacking attention to detail, Mike becoming belligerent and telling me I was a liar rather than entertain the possibility that his crew might have made a mistake, his refusal to take full responsibility for the totality of what his mistake had cost me, and his attempt to force me to write an A review for non-A work left me very, very glad when Mike's last crewmember left my house for the last time.

After some initial issues with getting an estimate scheduled, we were able to get a member of Mike's sales team out to give us an estimate for refinishing our hardwood floors in our dining room, living room, foyer and upstairs bedroom (~750 sq ft). The sales person was very honest and helpful in giving us recommendations where boards needed to be replaced rather than simply sanded (e.g. a band-aid solution rather than a fix). The salesperson worked directly with Mike over the phone to get us the best price for the job after a bit of negotiation. On the day the job was about to begin, Mike came to our house and walked through the details of all of the work that was to be performed with my wife and I. He even stuck around until his guys arrived and made sure that my wife understood everything that he had talked with his guys about. The work was done in less time than originally expected and was done with the highest quality. After the work was done, we did find a little issue and Mike was very good in working with us to get the issue resolved. Overall, Mike was very honest and informative and we look forward to having him and his team come out and do additional work for us in the future.

Mike came and gave us a bid. Once we contacted him and set a date he and his crew were there right on time. They removed the old flooring and then layed 3/4 inch plywood. Once the flooring was removed we found that the electrical was run on top of the old decking in conduit. We had never seen that before. Mike knew exactly what to do and his guys did a great job of installing our flooring. They worked very hard and cleaned everything up when they left. We are going to use them again to refinish our bedrooms.

Overall, the work is excellent and saved us a ton of time and headaches. I am very happy with the way the floors look. They even took extra time to pull out a ton of flathead nails (?) that had weak heads that were not coming off at all -- we had given up on them. They filled in cracks and did a great job. There are a few scratches on the walls after the sanding/floor job, which we think might be from the job, but aren't sure at this point. The floors dried and looked great. In about 3 days they were ready to be used again, and the polyurethane smell went away pretty quickly. We could never have done this ourselves. They had a time open in their schedule, accommodated to our needs, and their staff worked hard all day on our floors. Thanks for all your hard work!

Mike and his team did an excellent job. Very responsive, easy to work with, clean, competitively priced and the floors look terrific.

First of all, he was available short notice and got the job done very quickly which is essential to a landlord trying to turn a unit. The space that I need it done was slightly more than the coupon that I had purchased from Angie's List so there was a nominal fee in addition to the coupon still a very fair price. The floors looked great when he was done. I marketed my unit $100 higher because of the new floors

Overall my experience with Mike and his team was great. They were punctual and fast. I loved that they texted me updates and photos along the way so I could see how the floors looked (since I couldn't go into the house). They replaced a couple of damaged boards in the floor and were careful to cover all my kitchen cabinets and miscellaneous furniture. They even sealed off the stairs to the second floor so the smell was minimal. Joseph was great at getting back to me in a timely manner and was sure to answer all of my questions and random concerns. I will be using them when we do the upstairs.

The service was good. The floor looks beautiful, they did do a good job. The increase in cost affected it.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the type of floors needed for the Big Deal Special. He was on time, professional and I am going to use him for another project.

Mike came over the same day I called. I needed very specific days due to relocation. He accomodated so well I brought his crew back to finish the rest of the house. Some of the best money I have spent. The house was roughly appraised at 405K pre floor work and some painting, post work it is now on the market for 489K. Amazing transformation and professionalism. The crew worked on Friday night and Saturday late into the evening to accomodate my tight schedule. There is no one else that I could possible reommend like Mike.

Overall the project went extremely well from start to finish. Mike is very knowledgeable in his area, professional, and courteous. He was a pleasure to work with and would strongly recommend him based on our experience with him and his team. We originally went with a different company to get hardwood floors in our condo but after the worst experience imaginable (which concluded with them telling us that we could NOT get hardwood floors installed in our unit - after they sold us not one but two types of hardwood floors) we found Mike and his company on Angie's List. AND I'm extremely glad we did.

I am a project manager for Good Haven Properties. We took 3 bids, one from Mike, the owner at Mike's Hardwwod Flooring, for a project involving replacement, repair and refinishing of existing hardwood flooring in a 2 story single family home. He was right on time for the estimate, asked pertinent questions about the job and I received the quote from him that afternoon. His price was very reasonable and follow up excellent. The owners decided to go with him. Dorin and his crew showed up on time for all days of work. They delivered the new wood flooring on Monday to let it cure for a day before work began on Tuesday. They took out one room of old hardwood flooring on the first floor and replaced it with new red oak which they did a great job of staining to match the flooring in adjacent rooms. Also sanded and stained the staircase treads to match floors on the first floor and installed all new wood over old flooring on the entire second floor. Sanded and sealed all the wood floors in the house with a top quality water based sealer. And installed new primed quarter round molding on all new floors. They were finished by Thursday. (I forgot to mention that we were under huge time constraints for this job - Mike gave us the estimate on a Friday and the job was completed by the next Thursday afternoon) Dorin and his crew did an amazing job, they were organized, on time, skilled and did a good job cleaning up after themselves. I would absolutely hire them again.

Mike's team of installers did a fantastic job on the installation of our hardwood - I could not be happier with the result. The team worked long days and over the weekend to finish the job in 4 days. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and responsiveness of Enzo, the job's lead installer. Enzo explained the overall timeline of the job and then at the end of each day he would explain what the next day would entail. At the end of the job, Enzo and Benjamin did a great job vacuuming and cleaning up the residual dust from the installation. I will definitely be using Mike's Hardwood Flooring in the future and would recommend them to anyone.

It was done very well, theres always a little dust but thats expected when sand all the floors in the house. The finish they left was Beautiful!
