Simply perfect. After numerous unanswered phone calls and texts to other "flooring guys" recommended by friends and family, I finally came across Marian at Midwest Hardwood Floors. A relative of mine had just used him to refinish units in an apartment building and had nothing but great things to say. I now understand why! Marian answered my call on the first try and promptly setup an appointment for an estimate. He arrived exactly on time, went through all of the details about his process and even helped me pick the color for the floor, highlighting the positives and negatives of the different choices. He quoted me a very reasonable price and we decided to move forward. Within 24 hours he was back to begin the job, and 2 days later everything was complete! I've never experienced such a quick turnaround with any contractor. The floors turned out beautiful, the repair is not visible (perfect match with the old wood floor); he definitely went above and beyond my expectations. I never realized floors would excite me so much, but there was nothing like the feeling of opening the door to the amazing new look I didn't even know was possible! There is an endless supply of flooring contractors in Chicagoland, but fortunately for Marian they are NOT all the same! His attention to detail and genuine interest in customer satisfaction make his business stand out from the rest. His will be the only number I ever hand to friends and family looking for a flooring contractor!

Marion responded very promptly, within hours, to several e-mails about the work that needed to be done and about scheduling. He was on time on the scheduled day and finished the work of refinishing and minor repair of 525 sq ft in five hours. The results are excellent. The rooms were almost totally dustless and the floor looks like new . It looks beautiful. My wife and I are very satisfied.

We needed to refinish/repair hardwood floors and Marian and team were excellent. They were very responsive and kept us up to date with everything that was going on. He communicated well and did a great job on top of that. We'll need some more hardwood floor work in our kitchen eventually and we will not hesitate to call Midwest Hardwood again.

I quickly made an appointment for an estimate with Marian, and everything proceed as planned. We met and went over the details on the choices we had to make the floor look perfect. I had a few options to choose the materials, colors, patterns and stain color which made it became personal project. I do like that. I didn't have to wait a month or two for the job to be completed, in next day the work was in process and in two days the work finalized. I actually walked on my own vision so to speak as the floors reflected my thoughts entirely. Marian was the first to respond to my request for services on a tight time frame. We wanted the floors in our new home refinished prior to moving in and he rearranged his schedule to meet me at 7am sharp the next morning. He was always punctual and professional. Marian was honest about what he could and could not do with our older, original floors and noted right away that very light sanding was required in some spots and that there was one spot with water damage which would not be perfect--it ended up better than we expected. The Midwest Hardwood team were careful not to oversand some old, original oak floors, and did an excellent job with our newer maple floors. The natural finish they applied looked beautiful. We asked them to preserve an expensive staining pattern in our kitchen and they did. I'll be interested to know how they will restore this 5 years from now because I would definitely hire Marian and his team again. In sum: professional, prompt and responsive to our concerns. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Quality work.

Courteous, prompt, professional and affordable. Met with Marian on a Thursday. He was personable and reasonable. We signed the contract within 30 minutes. Marian and his crew arrived Monday morning and got right to work. They sanded the floors very professionally, leaving no dust behind. They applied a gorgeous polyurethane finish on the floor that really brings out the beauty of the wood. Marian and his crew then cleaned up everything and left the house looking spectacular. They were done by mid-afternoon. Marian even responded promptly to a text two days later after I (unbelievably) scratched the floor, and he told me how to fix it. I cannot say too many good things about Midwest Hardwood Floors!

Marian and his "guys" do the job they promise to do and do it well. Marian is a hardwood flooring specialist who is just that: professional. He and his guys work hard, do the exact work Marian and the client agree upon, and do it well, with pride. I was pleased with the new and refinished floors Marian did for me for a variety of reasons. Marian told me when he would start the job and when he would finish it and stuck to the schedule. He listened to me and cared what I thought. He accomplished our goals by working together: I told him what I wanted and he figured out a way to best accomplish it. He also checked with me along the way to make sure I was happy with the way the job was progressing. From choosing the wood of excellent quality to doing the job at a reasonable price, Marian demonstrated all the characteristics I was looking for in a flooring contractor. He had thoughtful solutions to specific areas of the floors: dealing with an air duct that was in a bad location; creating a defining edge along the fireplace; replacing metal duct covers with more attractive wood ones; and providing transitions that were carefully chosen to work best in each situation (and there were several). For me, the best part was that having Marian and his guys around was pleasant. They clearly enjoyed their work, and they were proud of the excellent quality of what they did. They also worked well together. It was clear to me that if I was not happy with something, Marian would be sure to make it right; he even called me the day after completion to see what I thought of my floors. Few doctors call the next day to see how the patient is feeling, but Marian called me to see if I was happy with my floors!

The kitchen and pantry and small hallway are maple wood , the livingroom and bedroom are white oak wood. The contractor started at 7:00 AM and finished at 3:15 PM . There is no such thing as dustless sanding, but with the care and equipment that the contractor used - it was at a bare minimum. The whole job was completed without any problems and there was no extra charge for doing a job on a second floor location !!!!!! I would highly recommend this contractor to anyone looking for wood floor refinishing.

The work turned out awesome. We are very pleased with the look and the job Marian did making the new and old floor match. It is a perfect match! The color also came out fantastic. The job turned out to be a challenge, maybe more of a challenge than Marian expected. He and his crew approached it with professionalism and got it done on time. Marian is a true craftsman. He was great to deal with and does fantastic work. We had a number of people provide us quotes who said they could not make the floors match. Marian did not promise he could make them match, but I had more confidence that he could make them close vs. the other contractors. He exceeded our expectations on getting them to look great and we have had many compliments on our floor. We are very glad we hired him and would highly recommend you give him a call if you are considering new floors or refinishing your existing floors.

I had the hardwood floors refinished before having renters move into the unit. We had a limited window for the work to be completed and Marian delivered on everything he said he would do on time with great results. We would definitely use them again.

We obtained multiple bids, and Marian was not the highest or lowest, but he was very specific and direct. I felt I could trust him right from the start. He also was very prompt and consistently showed up as he committed to do. Marian provided us with a written bid. As life sometimes impacts plans, we had a serious family illness and put our project on hold for seven months. When we contacted Marian, he did not initially remember us, but he reviewed his estimate book, and was willing to do the work as he originally estimated (stood by his commitment). Marian showed up on time, kept us informed of all activities, and completed the project on time. Marian obviously takes pride in his work. The floors are beautiful, even nicer than I had imagined. His team had excellent workmanship and cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. Marian also actively supervised the work. Marian took the time to walk us through the house, ensuring we were happy with his and his team's work. Marian also never lost track of important but idiosyncratic details ( we needed two doors planed to avoid scraping our floors and we needed a step nailed down - we forgot to remind Marian, but he remembered and took care of these issues without a reminder). Marian also took the time to notify us that our microwave oven was malfunctioning and could put us at risk of a fire. He provided sound advice - something I would expect from a friend, but not a tradesman - he is a genuinely caring person. Marian is an honest, fair and qualified professional who does what he says he will do, and I would recommend him wholeheartedly. I will also be a repeat customer. It was a pleasure doing business with Marian and I wish him much continued success in his business. I am so glad I now know someone I trust in the flooring business.

http://chicagomontessori.org/gym-floor/ It's hard to describe the condition of a well-used gym floor from 1923, but it had just about every problem including very old finish (what was left), boards worn to raw wood, broken boards, missing boards, uneven boards, warped floor and a myriad of other problems. Marian from Midwest Hardwood Floors was very easy to work with. He showed up on-time for the initial quote and all correspondence with him from that point on (and still going) is very professional and punctual. He's a well-hearted guy who knows what he's doing, what he can/can't do and will be very honest with you about what you're getting into and how the project is going to go (and he was right). His team clearly worked overtime to get the job done and when they realized they underquoted the amount of damage to be repaired they went ahead and fixed it anyway and let me name my price later for the overage! They really went all out to make this old gym floor come alive again and it looks fantastic. At the end of the project Marian's team fixed about 250+ boards! They also stained each one slightly to match the older maple so the final finish is really consistent and not spotted with repairs. The project started and completed on time because of their hard work and Marian's time management - he had added extra days just in case and used every one so he was still on time. Every single person involved with the project (the Church, the School, the teams) are incredibly impressed with the improvement. I highly recommend using Midwest Hardwood Floors for any hardwood refinishing, installing, staining, sealing etc. - any hardwood flooring needs. Our children will love the new gym floor!

My fiance and I purchased a condo that we knew needed work. That being said, there were a lot of logistics to consider when moving from upstate NY to Chicago- particularly securing someone to refinish our hardwood floors before arrive. We found Marian on Angie's List and contacted him because of his great reviews. From our initial contact in NY through the completion of the job, Marian was trustworthy, responsive, diligent and professional. We trusted him with our condo for 2 days and were extremely pleased with the results. His team of men were also hard working and respectful to us and our home. From start to finish, Marian was responsive and available to answer questions or concerns we had. After the job was done we met him to close the bill and could tell that he truly has integrity in his work. He even let us know we were overcharged and would send a check in the mail. We highly recommend Marian and Midwest Flooring. You will not be disappointed!

Marian called back and wanted to know the square footage involved and I explained that it was a 1,200 sq foot town home, but that installation was needed on the steps and third floor landing and bedrooms, and that I didn't know the square footage of those areas (and frankly didn't see why that would be necessary just to get an estimate, since no one else required that information for estimate purposes). He said something about a $75 fee for coming out for that purpose and I knew he wasn't our guy and never would be. Maybe I caught him on an off day, but I wouldn't have wasted my time had I known he'd be like this to work with (and this is when he's trying to get the job).

Marian was great. The floor looks very good, and everything was completed on schedule. He also offered to install some window trim for our bay window at no extra charge. It is clear that Marian is very passionate about his work, and about woodworking in general. He's a very pleasant guy and we enjoyed working with him. Highly recommended.

Marian's professionalism is second to none. He was always on time, always responsive to phone calls and completed the entire project as originally planned. His knowledge about how to approach certain areas truly helped make the finished product amazing. We are extremely happy with our new hardwood floors and would definitely recommend Marian with no hesitation.

Marian did a great job. He was on time for the estimate and the execution of the job. He was able to have the work done in a matter of days. He was slightly more expensive than one of his competitors, but the floors look great. Well worth it.

Marian was very responsive. We booked him before closing on the house and he was great about being prepared to change dates if needed. The floors needed serious help and Marian did a great job. He brought back gray and dingy maple to a beautiful finish. He took the time to counsel me when I had questions and he returned a week after the job was done to address some areas that had to be sanded by hand because the dustless system can't reach some areas. The only slight criticism is that Marian emailed multiple time reminding me that I agreed to post feedback about his work.

Marian was great. He came out for an estimate with only a few days notice for a project we wanted done right away. He and his team sanded and refinished two floors of our house. Marian kept me up to date with his progress, and once finished, checked in to make sure I was satisfied with his work. I had a question about one area, and he scheduled a time to come look at it and touch it up. He truly goes above and beyond, and his work is beautiful. He is very attentive to detail and knowledgeable. I heartily recommend working with him.

Marian is very professional and personable; he is an honest person with very high standards. The work that he and his employees did in our kitchen is impeccable. We are very happy with these guys, and when our first floor hardwood needs replacing, we will be calling them do do the work!

Marian is a pleasure to work with. They worked quickly and efficiently. Most importantly, the new floors are lovely. Despite a hiccup when the subfloor under the tile was not what was expected, the process went really smoothly. The subfloor-surprise meant that plywood was needed across the whole surface, and we hadn't been clear from the beginning about who would pay for the material if it was needed. We negotiated with Marian about who would bear the cost for the material. We settled on a pretty even split for the material cost, which I thought was a fair outcome. If/when we replace some of our wall-to-wall carpets with flooring, I will hire Marian again.

Great experience from start to re-finish! Ballpark estimate provided on the phone. In-person written quote provided the next day. We got other bids, and Midwest was very competitive. But what drove our decision was the degree of care we felt the team would take with our existing kitchen cabinetry, etc. Midwest inspired complete confidence... and delivered. Consultation was very valuable as options were discussed and recommendations were made that saved time and money. I did not feel rushed or that I was being "sold". Team was very professional during project. Result is beautiful, and the floors look better than when they were new. Hire with compete confidence! One note about the process: Dust created was surprisingly low. The fumes, however, were fairly intense... especially at the end of day one as poly is applied late in day. My friendly advice to others is to consider sleeping somewhere else on at least the first night.
