Midwest Flooring did an excellent job at refinishing the floors. They were able to remove the stain from in between the railings which the other company did NOT do. They were also very patient while we were trying to match the stain and were flexible with regards to my work schedule. They also cleaned up the railings and touched up some dings they found on the hardwood floors in.another room that was NOT being refinished. They really seem to care that we were happy and called a few days after they completed their work to see what we thought of the floors.

The 2nd floor of my old house has bizarre and uneven hardwood floors. In most places it's not too bad and goes unnoticed, but in one area there was some obvious sagging and movement of the hardwood. A contractor had recently removed a wall and "patched" the area of the floor where the wall had stood and needless to say, they did a remarkably poor job. I called Maurian to come take a look and see if he could fix it. He returned my call right away and showed up to examine the problem within a few hours. He was very honest about what to expect with the finished product and after a few days and a no-call/no-show from another flooring company I decided to hire Maurian. He arrived exactly on time, on our scheduled date and got straight to work. By 4pm he had torn away the old flooring, installed a new sub floor, put fresh planks down in the problem areas, sanded, stained, and applied polyurethane. Now the floors in this 40-sq-ft area look fantastic and the whole room looks and feels great. I would absolutely recommend Maurian and his work to anyone who needs flooring help.

Great work! Marian arrived on a Saturday to provide an estimate and was able to begin work later that week. He quickly refinished the floors, giving us updates throughout the process. The floors now look great and we would be happy to work with Marian again in the future. Highly recommended. UPDATE 5/2014: Of course we scratched the floor. Marian came out on the weekend to inspect the damage, and he was prepared to repair it on the spot. He applied some stain which masked the scratches very well and he charged nothing for this. Marian is proud of and invested in his work. Highly recommended!

We needed our hardwood floors refinished in 5 rooms. We bought the house in July and decided it was time to have the floors done. The floors had been covered with carpet for quite a while and they needed to be freshened up. We found Marian on Angie's List. Marian was extremely professional and responsive throughout the whole process. He was always on time. He was honest and up front about everything. He set the proper expectations about the job. He made good recommendations. He returned my calls and text messages right away. Overall, he was very easy to work with. Most of all, the floors look fantastic. We had a lot of damage on two spots of an otherwise very good and very large floor. Marian suggested we try repairing the damaged areas first. He told us we would notice a difference but that with time it will blend. Floor looks beautiful. Yes you can tell if you are looking for it or if you look from the second floor. He did a great job blending the old and new and saved us a lot of money. I gave his card to my co-worker and would definitely use him again.

Marian is very responsive and dedicated to his craft. No nonsense and all work kind of a guy. I had no issues scheduling the job. He was very accommodating to work around the intermittent delays due to external factors without any fuss on downtime and such, which was extremely helpful for me to stay on budget. He definitely went above and beyond to get the work completed on schedule by working extra hours each day and through the weekends. And my HW floors look excellent and are a testament to the craftsmanship of Marian. Would definitely recommend him for any and all flooring jobs.

We had an excellent experience with Marian and Midwest Hardwood Floors, Inc. I had obtained quotes from two other contractors before contacting Marian. Following my "minimum three quotes" rule, I contacted him even though I had already finalized pricing with one of the other contractors and was about to pay the deposit. Thank god I waited until meeting Marian. The project was completed exactly as we discussed, and they even started on Thanksgiving just to make sure that they finished before my move-in date. The work was unparalleled and better than we could have ever imagined. I recommend Marian and his company to everyone and look forward to using him for any future wood flooring work.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Marian responded promptly to my call. He was friendly, professional and completed the job on schedule. Of the three estimates I obtained, he was the only one who took the time to look at my existing floor finish and carefully match it. He did a beautiful job!! The one downside was that his price was on the high side but for this kind of job it was well worth it.

The contractor was prompt and professional for all appointments and communications. He gave me a realistic account of what could and could not be accomplished. During the work the company's owner stayed for the entire duration of the project, working along with his employees. Everyone was very conscientious and hardworking and the floors turned out very nicely. At some point I will probably engage this company to replace some other damaged portions of flooring because I was pleased with the services I received this time.

We purchased a condo last fall and were looking for a flooring vendor in the hopes to complete a project in small window of time after closing but prior to moving in. Marian met us a on Friday afternoon. His bid was the best so we accepted and he was back about 12 hours later on Saturday morning to deliver the wood for our job. His team was able to start early and then finished the job ahead of schedule . The price was very fair and we were very happy with the finished result, Marian and his team clearly take pride in their work. However, his most outstanding quality is his responsiveness. I would give an A+ in that category if possible as not only was Marian responsive to our questions and concerns, but he was very proactive and in all his communication. I will be calling them again the next time I have a flooring project.

I am in the construction industry, and work as a Designer/GC. I have worked with several flooring providers, and have to say that Midwest did an excellent job, both in terms of skill and professionalism. I strongly recommend them to anyone.

We bought the house, discovered the damaged floors and checked the list. Marion had many good reviews and was from our area, which I like to use local contractors. Called on a Sunday to leave message, Marion answered, scheduled on site evaluation for next morning before I went to work. Marion gave honest eval and gave me a few options. I told Marion that based on his reviews, the price, and experience, he had the job. I have installed hardwood,floors, have a nailer, compressor, saw, etc. but sine i don't have time I trout Marion was the best choice. He started Wednesday and finished by the weekend. He repaired the damage, removed bad flooring, installed new, finish edit all, and even removed a few random pieces the had been damaged. This was great because he caught some defects that I wasn't aware of. He is professional and quality, at a very good price. Call him!

I couldn't be happier with the work Marian did here. Most of the floor was under carpet when he first came out to price the work, but he did an amazing job and there were no hidden charges. He was prepared for any potential repairs that were needed, arrived when scheduled and worked with me on the timing for him to come out. I will definitely use him again and would recommend his services.

Marian is AWESOME! Out of the three quotes I rec'd (all of which were strongly rec'd by Angie's list) he was the only one who showed up on time. He was also willing to take a chance on refinishing part of a bedroom floor that had been carpeted over and looked to be in passable but not good shape -- with the appropriate warnings to me of what to expect and that there may be surprises. The other refinishers who came out were so afraid of being "blamed" for something going wrong that they were extremely cautious and refused to take on anything that wasn't clearly going to turn out perfectly. I suppose that is the downside of the review system. In addition, the price was very competitive and the financial aspect straightforward and clear. My floors turned out great including the one that we couldn't tell the condition of until the sanding started. Marian and his team were wonderful, gave me excellent advice and guidance, and left me with very nice floors!!

It Mario and crew arrived promptly at the arranged time, and finished in the afternoon. We were able to walk on the refinished floors the next day. The floors look great. We will probably get Mario to refinish the upstairs floors also. Some small gaps between the ends of floor boards were filled with matching oak pieces, very nicely. I am very pleased with the results.

This was one of the best projects we have done on our house - mostly because Marian was easy to work with. He was professional, honest, reliable and took pride in his work. We had some problem spots to deal with and he always gave me options without pressuring me one way or another. His pricing was reasonable and the quality of his work was exactly what I expected and he went above & beyond by helping move furniture even though he did not have to. Would hire him again without question.

Marian was the only one of the three estimates I received that told me -- on his own volition- that I needed to refinish only the rooms that showed wear, despite the fact that the entire first floor is hardwood. He said he'd be able to do the kitchen and entry way, and make it so that it matched the other parts he felt really didn't need to be refinished. After he showed up to give the estimate, we corresponded easily by email and text, and he showed up on time for the work, which took two days. Best part was that his dustless sanding process created only a very slight bit of dust (even though he did seal off the areas with plastic drop cloths). The floors look great -- should have done this years ago. The newly refinished areas match absolutely perfectly with the areas he did not refinish. Couldn't be more satisfied. And, Marian is just a decent guy, very pleasant to have around (same for his co-worker).

Marian was great to work with! He was able to give me an initial estimate by message but also came by to confirm and provide a firm quote. He was willing to honor the Angie's List promotional pricing and recommended the semi-gloss finish. The work was completed quickly on the day that I needed. I was given clear instructions on when it would be 'safe' to walk on the floor without damaging the finish. The floor has never looked better!

We just moved into a condo and my wife wanted to get the hardwood floors refinished. But the service uses a product that does not agree with our condo association so we had a to get a refund. No problems with the company. They called ahead of time, the Deal just did not work.

Marian is perhaps more of a magician than a floor refinisher, the transformation of my home is amazing. I recently purchased a 100-year old home that had 30-year old carpet in most of it, and several layers of linoleum in the kitchen. It was hard to tell what I would find when I pulled it all up. Marian responded immediately to come out for a quote, and he gave me the quote on the spot. When he pulled up the carpet he found several areas that needed significant repairs, like where a previous owner had removed the fireplace but did not replace the floor. The kitchen floor was an absolute mess after the linoleum was pulled up, and Marian recommended that I just lay new floor on top of the old one. I really wanted the original floors, and the quote for a new floor ($1,750) was too much for me, so he said he would do his best and make it look as good as he could. He was able to start quickly and the work was done within a week. The finished product is beyond anything I could have hoped for, I cannot tell where repairs were done. The floors are absolutely beautiful. The $5,000 I spent will serve the home well for another 100 years, and I'm sure it raised the value of the home significantly. The photos speak for themselves. Marian, the owner of Midwest Hardwood Floors, came a week before the job was scheduled to estimate the cost and explain how he would go about replacing the floor in the den and refinishing the den floor and the adjacent oak floors in the family room and kitchen. He was the most professional contractor I have ever worked with! My house is 128 years old ( a Victorian frame house ) and he was very sensitive to the age of the house and very respectful of both the house and the furniture he had to move ( and replace after the floor had dried). He wrote everything down on his business stationery and stuck to every detail. There were no cost overruns after he and I went through the procedure and the cost, and he took the time to explain everything in minute detail and never wavered from the original contract and what to expect. For example, he explained that this is NOT a totally dust free process, although he has very sophisticated machinery and vacuums to clean as much of the dust as is humanly possible after the sanding of about 900 square feet. The rest of the dust came off of everything with a simple dusting on my part after all of the rooms were put back together. Aside from his professionalism and the great finished product ( he is a craftsman and proud of his work), I was amazed at how he matched the new white oak in the den to the old white oak on the kitchen and family room floors. They are identical and look as if they were all laid and finished at the same time. He has received many "A" reviews on Angie's List. After we met and he spent so much time explaining what he would do and how he would go about it, I didn't hesitate to hire him without getting a second or third opinion. He proved true to his word in every respect and was a pleasure to do business with. I would recommend him highly!

They came and gave me as estimate. I requested days of service, which they were able to do. On the first day, they arrived at 8 AM - removed carpet in 30 minutes - which was good because this allowed us to get the carpet out in time for garbage pick up. Next they cleaned, then sanded the floors. This is always a noisy messy process, but these guys did it right, and then cleaned up the mess. Next they applied the stain color. In order to let this absorb into the wood and dry, they tool a lunch break. They were back in about an hour. They then applied the first coat of finish to the floor. They left around 2 PM On the second day, they arrived about 8 AM. They installed the new moldings and thresholds - they did the cutting outside - this went very fast and efficiently. They then lightly sanded the floor to remove any imperfections in the first coat of finish. They applied the second coat of finish. Cleaned up, packed up, and left. These guys are great - they know what they are doing, and take great pride in their work. The floors are beautiful. If I had more floors to do, I would definitely, use them again, without any hesitation. On a 10-point scale, I give them a 20.

The floors came out much better than I expected as the floors had been covered with carpeting for over 35 years.. The work was done in a timely professional manner, with a minimum of disruption to our household. Marion was a pleasure to work with on this project. He carefully listened to what we wanted and followed through on everything we requested. The finished floors matched up perfectly to two adjoining rooms we had done about ten years ago. I highly recommend his services and wouldn't hesitate to hire him for additional projects.
