Hardwood By Dracula

We initially had Ioan (John) refinish hardwood floors in our 1960's ranch. He was creative in finding a solution for a transition between the wood floor and tile floor. Fast-forward 6 years, and our "scary" basement stairs demanded a re-do. They were covered in ceramic tile, cracked often, and were narrow, dangerous and slippery. I called Ioan on a Tuesday, he inspected the stairs on Thursday, and by Monday, demolition began. He worked diligently for 2.5 days, and the finished product is beautiful! Ioan was even able to give us a wider tread for safety. We should have done the stairs 6 years ago, when he first suggested it! Ioan is skilled, professional, and mindful of the mess. There was very little for me to clean-up once the job was done. Highly recommend his craftsmanship!!

I called John after a friend recommended him. I wanted to remove the carpet in the living room and on the stairs as well as remove a very complex decorative tile/wood patter in the dining room. John came out to take a look and we discussed the options. As there was no way to know what was under the tile or what condition any wood would be, he gave me an estimate which covered both restoration and replacement if needed. He showed up promptly each morning eager to get to work and continued to work non-stop all day. He explained the process each step of the way and as the existing flooring was revealed, he kept us apprised of how he was going to proceed. He would make recommendations and explain why some things I wanted would not have the result I wanted. This was helpful as I could tell it came from years of experience and his desire to make sure I was happy with the end result. The floor under the tile presented a challenge but John came up with solutions. In the end the floors turned out better than I expected and I am very happy with the results.

john did a great job, he said the floors would be done in three days and they were. He went above and beyond what he promised.He fixed defects in the floors that were not in the contract for no charge, helped me move furniture.The floors turned out better than I thought they could, they had badly worn spots that came out great. Overall I was very pleased with his work.

This was one of the best experiences I've had with any contractor. Everything was done when it was supposed to be. And, it was done well. Was blown away by the quality of the work. Even my closet floors were done. The level of detail was astounding. Thought I left this review back when the work was first done in August. But, was just looking at the floor, can't help but think, I need to buy another house, just so I can hire Dracula again.... Ok... That may be an exaggeration. But, I'm blown away by how good it looks.

We hired Ioan to repair our damaged engineered hardwood floors (we had a flood) and were very pleased with the quality of his work. He is punctual, meticulous and fast! Our project required him to custom engineer our flooring to reverse the direction of the tongue and groove (because of the area of flooring damaged). He came up with a plan that would leave no visible signs of work (other installers told us that we would have to face nail the boards, which would have been unsightly). He even took the time to call the manufacturer of the flooring to verify that his plan would work. Best of all, he is very fast. I would hire him again in a second and I strongly recommend him to anyone who needs flooring work.

Ioan was detail oriented, punctual and passionate about his work. He completed the work on time and did exactly as he said he would do. The result was a high quality of workmanship and finish. His price was reasonable, his attiude excellent and I have no hesitation in recommending his services.

Originally I started to do the job myself, after running into time constraints I called John. Off the 3 flooring companies that gave me an estimate, he was the only one who took what work I did into consideration in his more than reasonable price. He was able to accommodate me and my schedule, showed up the next day on time, and did everything he said he would do beyond expectations. I will definitely be calling him again when we are ready to do the 2nd floor.

It went very well. Ioan (the business owner) had a couple of weeks before a bigger job began and was able to fit us in beforehand. This worked well for us time-wise. He immediately came to see the job, gave us advice and options on the work needed and talked to us about his procedures. He sent us an estimate by email as soon as he got home. The date for the job was set for the next week. Ioan was prompt each day, left the worksite clean, and everything worked out just as he had promised. Not only did he do a beautiful job on the floors, but he also moved our heaviest furniture out of the way, added quarter round moldings in the kitchen where they had not been installed previously, and even fixed a bad door hinge on an antique hallway door that was coming loose from the frame. Because our house is old (1890's) and very dark inside (city lot), we wanted to keep our floors light, going against the current style of dark flooring. We chose a satin finish and they came out lighter and more natural looking. Ioan is a go-getter. He has lots of energy, knows his business, gave us options on finishes, was friendly and kept us informed throughout the job by text and email. Also, there were bad gouges and scrapes in the kitchen and they came out better than I expected. We were referred to Hardwood by Dracula by an acquaintance, who also wrote a review on Angie's List. I didn't bother to get other estimates because Dracula was highly recommended personally as well as already recommended on Angie's List.

Dracula to the Rescue! No, not a cheesy horror movie, but my actual wonderful experience with Ioan (John) Banut, owner of Hardwood by Dracula. (The company name is a play on John’s Romanian heritage – the guy has a sense of humor). Another hardwood floor contractor was reeking havoc on my renovation project by repeated delays, not showing up when promised, leaving me and others sitting around waiting. I was also concerned about the quality of the first guy’s work. I contacted Hardwood by Dracula based on Angie’s List reviews, and was lucky enough to catch John when he had a few days in his schedule. John did an amazing job of finishing the floors, dealt with some tough issues and the other guy’s mistakes. He really knows the best practices and products for hardwood floors, completely explains your options, and is great to work with. He does all the work himself. Several other trade people on my project have remarked on the quality of the floors and asked for John’s contact information. Highly, highly recommended.

Ioan Banut did a good job with our natural wood floors. He removed carpet & pad, was creative in designing a wood threshold between a tiled floor and the hardwood floor, and finished the floors in a timely manner. Knowledgeable & polite. Recommend.

It took a few extra days to obtain a smooth floor before the stain could be applied. John is a detailed, no-short-cut professional. I was impressed with his integrity and positive (friendly) mood. He even replaced all the baseboard quarter-round without charge! I could have hired a cheaper service, but I couldn't hire a better guy to get my job done right. The floors look like new and I am very, very pleased!

John was very professional and did an outstanding job and replaced some of the floor boards. He finished in two days. He always kept me posted as to what he was doing and even sent my pics via phone. He was very responsive from the get go. I had no problem communicating with him and he made sure that I have a good understanding of what needs to be done and why. He was very efficient and left my place clean after the job was done. I would definitely use him again!

He was knowledgeable, professional, punctual, and honest. He spent about an hour walking around my home and reassured me my floors were just fine. He didn't try to upsell me on adding another coat or sanding and refinishing. His quote to add another quote (which he said wasn't necessary) was very reasonable.

We love the hickory flooring that John installed for us recently in our living and dining room space. We love even GREATER the professionalism of Johns work. To know the investment of flooring was installed the "right" way is assuring. A master craftsman who understands the nature of wood in the installation process and has a keen eye for the details that would be overlooked by many but not John. Watching him lay in the pieces was a work of art and great pride. Organized, prompt, clean and a good communicator (teacher) would be a few more of Johns attributes. After installation I noticed a board that needed replaced. I called John and within a weeks time, John drove two hours round trip on a Saturday to make the floor perfecto! We are planning to put more hardwood flooring in our house... Hands down John from Dracula Flooring is our guy and should be yours!

John was an absolute pleasure to work with. He is fast, honest and responsive. He doesn't play games and is there to get the job done right. We appreciate him enormously and will be certain to use his services again whenever we have any flooring/wood working needs.

Although I did not end up having my floors redone back in Feb, this contractor was extremely pleasant to work with and seemed to offer a fair estimate for the work. Should I end up having my hardwoods replaced, I will definitely be reaching back out to this vendor for another bid.
