Description of Work: I moved from Los Angeles, California to Ann Arbor, Michigan and found this company based upon the ratings and reviews they had on their site. VERY DISAPPOINTED, WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. | |Their website claims they are affiliated with IAM - International Association of Movers. I called at one point during the move to seek their help and IAM said Golan's is not one of their affiliated movers. | |Here is the account of what happened and why I was very disappointed. | |L.A. Rep (LA) started the moving process for me and has tried to help me through the process unfortunately it seems like there are things out of his control that have made the process painful. When we had originally set up my move I had asked LA to try to have my items held at the Chicago warehouse as I was moving to Michigan, and there was a possibility that I may have to slide the delivery date which had originally been set for 6/1. | |Here is a timeline of what happened: |5/16 - My items were picked up. When the movers left I was informed that I would be receiving the BOL with the final costs, official weight calculated, within 48 hours. | |5/21 - I had still not received any information so I sent a note to LA asking about the final weights, the pricing and if my items had been sent out to Chicago. I had received a note back on that day stating that LA would check on the status of my move, and had copied Peter Kim. | |5/29 - I contacted the Chicago office; spoke with Chicago rep (CHI) to inform him that I had to shift delivery window to start 6/9 because I was not able to get into my apartment before then. At that point I was informed that my items were still in California and the new window for delivery would be 6/9-6/20. I also asked about my BOL and was told that I he would find out and get back to me that afternoon. | |6/2 - I had not heard back from CHI, called back to ask about the BOL and about my move, if there was information on the BOL and when my items would be leaving California, he informed me that he did not have my information, and would get back to me in a few days. | |6/5 - I contacted CHI, was told that he did not have my information in front of him and that he would call me back. Later he did contact me, said my items were still in California, that I was now because of changing my dates would be charged a warehouse fee and a handling fee. I had informed him that I was told by LA that I had 30 days free storage, and had never been informed about a handling fee. Also I asked were my items handled extra, were they already on a truck and because I moved my date they had to move my items again? He said he would get back to me the next day. | |6/6 - No information from CHI - I finally spoke with LA to inform him of the situation and asked him to intervene. He informed me that after speaking with CHI there would be no warehouse fee and the handling fee would be waived since I was never informed that by changing my dates I would incur additional charges, which I am grateful for and feel was the appropriate action. LA also said that he believes my items were placed on the truck that had just left the California warehouse the day before. | |6/9 - Sent a note to LA because I still had yet to receive the BOL and to find out if there was a narrower window on my delivery. | |6/11 - I finally reached LA via phone, he then informed me that Peter Kim was in jury duty and he would ensure the BOL was sent to me the following day. Also he informed me that he just found out that my items were in fact not on the truck the prior week, but will be on the truck that week. | |6/12 - almost 4 weeks after my items were picked up I finally received the BOL. | |6/16 - I sent a note to LA asking to confirm that my items had left the California warehouse and if there was an update on the delivery window. LA confirmed that afternoon that my items had left the warehouse and that CHI would be in contact with me that day to update me on the delivery window. | |6/17 - At almost 2p EST I still had not heard from CHI to update me on my move and so I sent another email that I had yet to receive a call. At about 5p EST with no response to my note I called LA and he said that he just got off the phone with CHI and would call him back. About 15 minutes later CHI called me, then stating "LA asked me to call you, what can I do for you?" I was concerned about this response as he had been copied on the communication from LA and the one I responded back to. CHI finally informed me that my delivery may actually be over the weekend, or early the following week, after the original end of the delivery window of 6/20. He stated that there was an issue with the truck in Oregon, and that he was not sure when it would arrive in Chicago. This confused me in 2 areas. First, how could you not know where your trucks are and have an expected window for it arriving in Chicago. Second, if my items were going to be transferred in Chicago, why did it not go out on any of the trucks the 4 weeks prior? I also asked if my items were in fact not delivered in the window I was given, would I be compensated, and CHI said he would not discuss that until the window had passed. He then informed me that he would contact me on Thursday with an update to my delivery. This also concerned me as I was told that I would be given 48 hours notice to delivery, if I was contacted on Thursday, for a Friday delivery, this would be 24 hours notice. I contacted LA unhappy with my conversation with CHI and he said he would clarify and call me back. LA did call me back and stated that CHI is still not convinced that they will not make my delivery window, but that CHI would not know until Thursday. LA said that while 48 hours notice is normally given, my case may be 24 hours. Also, that if my move would not be delivered by the 20th, CHI would be my contact, and that he would only discuss compensation after the 20th. | | |6/19 - Sent email to Golan's GM at 1P EST, received email back at 5P EST saying she will research my move and call me the next day. | |6/20 - GM calls me to tell me that my move was on a truck that had been on a DOT hold, they hope it will be released in the near future but will not know an exact time when. She said that because this was out of their hands, I would not be compensated. I stressed my concern because it was their fault that my items were on a truck that was so close to the window I was given. At the end of the call she said she would follow up on Monday, 6/23. | |6/23 - No call from GM. I had to call CHI to find out what was going on with my move. I was informed that the truck was released on Saturday, 6/21, but had to make several stops before the truck made it to Chicago, after making it to Chicago, my stuff would be put on a truck to Ann Arbor. He said that it would likely be the end of the week or weekend, but he would be in touch with me on Wed 6/25 with an update. | |6/25 - 3pm - still no call from CHI so I call the office, leave a message, by 5:30pm still no call back, so I call again and reach CHI. CHI says that my stuff is on its way to the Chicago warehouse but will be arriving late and that I will be contacted on Thurs 6/25 with an update. | |6/26 - 6pm no update from Chi, I attempt to call, leave a message. Office is now closed, I call emergency line, reach someone to have CHI call me back, also contact LA to try to reach CHI. CHI finally calls me back at 730pm from his personal phone sounding frustrated and finally states that my move will be there between 7a-9a on 6/27. LESS than 12 hours notice!!!! As I would be paying with credit card he said he would waive the 2.5% credit card fee. | |6/27 - 7a - movers arrive to deliver my goods, take payment but charge me the 2.5% fee that was supposed to be waived. Items are delivered, I notice the truck was stacked horribly, everything looked like it was thrown in the truck, and also my goods were in the center of the truck when I was the first delivery of the day so it took the movers a little longer to find all my goods, asking me what was missing. | |7/18 - 3 weeks later, no contact from the movers asking how things went or any word of compensation. My move was delivered 1 week after the window. While yes the DOT had a hold a truck that held my goods, they did not hold the truck 7 days. With that I should have been compensated something for my move. | |I STRESS TO ANYONE LOOKING AT THIS COMPANY. DO NOT USE! |
