I got an estimate for apx. $1120.00 for the job of moving me from my apt. to a home. The job was done in nearly half the time and at nearly half the cost estimated. Everyone involved, from the representative, Richard Hain, to the person answering the phones, to the movers, were polite, early to arrive and completely upfront and honest with what was involved. I cannot recommend them enough. Thanks Golan, Scott Curtis.

Good. The movers arrived on time and were well-equipped. They worked fast and efficiently. They even worked through lunch. They wrapped each piece of furniture with soft blankets. They did charge extra for each roll of packing tape they used (which was cheap and not much on each roll of tape so this was a rip off). No furniture was damaged. They were friendly and receptive to my requests. They did have to take apart and rebuild one of our armoires because it was too big to move. They did not put it back together correctly (it was wobbly and ready to fall after they reassembled it) so I had to take it apart myself and put it back together because I did not discover this until they left. I wish they would have told me they had to take the armoire apart, I would have done it myself before they even arrived.

The movers effectively packed everything and moved it out in the time they said they would, providing a complete inventory. The company had previously provided an estimate, which was accurate. I had to point out a couple of things that they had forgotten to pack, but otherwise had no problems.

The movers arrived on time and were very efficient. The price quoted was reasonable and within the range of other companies contacted. The only reason that we could not rate them as "Excellent" on all aspects was that one of our bikes was left by the freight elevator in our apartment. Luckily the maintenance staff found the bike and returned it to our storage locker. Otherwise the experience with Golan's was excellent, and we will use them again for any local move.

Excellent and careful movers. They truly went the extra mile of care in their packing and removal of the furniture. They even took off their shoes.

Overall, I'd give them a B grade. The big important stuff was done fine. All our furniture and fragile items made it into the new house with no damage. Other positives; they came in under budget. They made a big effort to move some furniture to the 3rd floor that was simply too big to get up the narrow stairway. They worked hard without ever sitting down. On the negative side; the last minute items packed on moving day were crammed into the boxes with no attention to breakage. I lost two lamps and a lampshade that was jammed into a box with no wrapping at all. Only the foreman spoke English, and while he tried hard to direct his guys, he couldn't be everywhere, and so they had to re-do some things because they couldn't understand my directions. A lot of boxes ended up in the wrong room because they couldn't read my (carefully marked) labels. I got three estimates for the move. Golan was mid-priced and I guess I got "middle of the road" work. I'd try a different company next time.

I was extremely pleased with Golan. The three-man crew arrived on time and were very polite. They did a careful job wrapping up and moving the furniture. It was a very heavy dining room set and they took it up two flights of stairs with absolutely no problems or damage. Their hourly rate was competitive with other estimates I received. I will definitely use Golan again should the opportunity arise.

Overall they were very good. All of our items arrive intact, & they seemed to be careful with out furniture & boxes. They do work on an hourly rate & at one point it seemed like only 2 of the 4 were working, but that was after many hours of hard labor & no break. Everyone was very polite & professional, & they seemed careful with our belongings. The move took 8 hours instead of the estimated 6, but we did have some large pieces. They also seemed a little excessive with the tape, but again nothing really broke. Somehow 2 of our shelves for our book case are missing, but I haven't called the company yet to see if they were left on the truck. I did a visual scan of the truck before they left & didn't see anything. They could have left them behind. Anyway, nothing major went wrong & they seemed to work hard.

I had used Golan in my last 2 moves and was very happy with their services. In November of 2005 I moved into my new husband's furnitureless condo. I have tons of furniture and he had just a bed and a futon couch. It cost about $350 with tip. Since we just sold the condo, I had to move again. However, this time we moved on a holiday. I think we either got the newbies or the part time replacements for our move. They were painfully slow and broke or crushed several items. I didn't claim them because it seemed like more trouble than it was worth. One item was part of an IKEA wardrobe and the other was a basket to an Elfa shelving system. Even though my husband moved most of the boxes ahead of time, it cost us almost $300 more than our last move. I was not pleased with Golan this time.

Overall, for a cross-country move, it went well. Richard the sales rep was great, as was Jacob, the long distance move manager/dispatcher (I called a lot). I had three minor problems... a dining room table arm chair (the arm) and the guys who moved me into my new place couldn't get my desk put back together. Also, I realized my DVD/VCR didn't end up in my possession. I talked with Jacob the day after my move, and he called back the day after that to say they found the DVD/VCR on the truck, and they would FedEx it to me as soon as it got back to Chicago. I got it about 10 days later. The claim process is slow but appears to be fair (I don't have the chair fixed yet). Big bonus was Golan was BY FAR less expensive ($1500-2000) than any other nationwide movers since they didn't charge me for TWO moves but rather one move with a few weeks of storage (storage was free as well). The trade-off was that there was a 10 day window of delivery, and they delivered 7 days into that window.

The truck arrived on time at 8:00 am and there were 6 workers. The lead man, "Victor" was professional and courteous, as they all were. They were respectful of the furniture and worked quickly and diligently from beginning to the end, 9 hours later. I ordered pizza for them per their request which they ate very quickly and paid for themselves. This was off the clock. I would definitely recommend using them and I would use them again.

Great overall experience. Guys arrived right on time and worked quickly to get all furniture wrapped and loaded with our boxes. Unloaded everything at the new place without any problems, and even put mats on the floors of our bedrooms to avoid getting mud on the new carpet as they moved stuff in.

The movers forgot a television, two closets, and only partially emptied cabinets. The lead mover was contentious about his tip ($20. per person for three people), and essentially complained that I was not giving them enough money. I called to complain that they had left things and asked for some consideration with a refund. They said that since I had signed the document saying everything was fine, there was nothing they would do for me. My father is 84 years old and is feeble; he did/could not check everything.

Amir, the lead crew member, was extremely polite and helpful. The crew worked very fast and hard to complete the work. All crew members were courteous. They took very good care of our possessions and did a great job packing. The only problem was our television, which somehow broke during the move. It did not seem to be packed appropriately. The move would have been less expensive except for the fact that the movers had to wait several hours between loading and unloading. (We had an afternoon closing on the purchase of our new home.) Also, communication seemed to be poor between the office and the movers, who were completely unaware of the need to wait a few hours. My husband left a message with a question for Toula, the estimator. However, he never got a return call. Communication from the office seemed to be the weak link at this company. But Amir and the crew were great. Estimate was pretty accurate.

I've used Golan's for 2 other moves & had good experiences. This move was complicated by the long wait from loading to unloading, but there was also a big dip in the quality of the movers & my interaction with the company. On this move, we experienced damage because things were either packed too tightly or the movers were rushing to unload. I bought the insurance & filed a claim, but ironically Golan's reimbursed me $150, which was the cost of the insurance versus the $755 I requested with written estimates. Other failure points: (1) Being mislead by the crew leader about what the insurance actually covered (insurance should be sold by the office, not the truck driver); (2) Being instructed to sign the bill of loading by the driver, which the office claimed meant that I did not acknowledge the damage in the first place. The driver insisted that my signature recognized receipt of our property. Even when I called Golan's management, they were not receptive. I will never use them again.

Over all the crew seemed fairly well experienced in moving. Everything was wrapped & packed nicely, and we had just a one minor ding in our furniture. The hourly price for the 4 man crew was good, but we ended up getting hit with another $255 in fees for boxes, tape & packing paper. I was a little disappointed that there was really only one English speaking mover, as direction for box & furniture locations didn't seemed to be understood (had bathroom supplies in the basement & kitchen stuff in the living room.) Certain little things that I was unhappy with. My wife's travel mug of coffee was packed with a box of spices & sugar. It was full, so that stuff had to be thrown out. They also had no idea of what may be in a file cabinet or how to carry one, as all my receipts for the past 5 years along with other important paper work was jumbled when one of the guys carries my file cabinets almost completely upside down.

It was an outstanding crew and move. Very efficient and friendly but got down to work and stayed at it. Willing to move pieces when they didn't have to. 5 man crew and each was worth it. Highly recommend them again.

The movers were right on time, extremely polite, pleasant and efficient. Our move began at 8 am and was complete, with everything undamaged and exactly where we wanted it, at 1:30 pm. An hour after the movers left, we discovered that we could not find our keys. We called Golan's emergency number, thinking a mover had mistakenly picked them up. Golan's responded promptly and were in the process of calling each of the five movers when we found our keys. I highly recommend Golan's - they made a typically stressful event, moving, virtually stress-free.

They itemized and organized all the packages they picked up to bring into storage. Everything went pretty smoothly and they were able to move everything rather quickly. However, upon drop off we noticed our TV stand was broken. Their Damage Policy is cumbersome and slow and non-responsive.
