Golan's Moving & Storage Inc

We had a wonderful experience with Golan's. I contacted them for a quote and they provided a detailed walk through to determine our needs and provide a reliable estimate, including information about the cost of supplies and packing materials. We received follow up just prior to our move as well, to verify all of the arrangements. The crew arrived early the day of our move and began working immediately at the scheduled time. They were very thorough, careful and extremely hard-working. They worked very quickly and moved us from a one-bedroom to a three-bedroom in short order, consulting us about where we would like furniture and boxes moved for ease of unpacking. This was our first time hiring movers and I couldn't have asked for a better experience - I would work with them again without hesitation.

This is the 2nd time I've used Golan's. They are professional, punctual and very accommodating with moving dates. The team they sent was professional and worked hard. My one complaint was that they excessively wrapped some items (taking 5- 10 mintues) and then didn't wrap other antique items which were damaged. I stated which items should be wrapped and which shouldn't (and wrote a list), but I had several pieces which were not wrapped (and I stated they should have been) and were subsequently scratched or broken- and then the team denied it. I also didn't get an opportunity to inspect the truck and am missing a mattress. I was then charged $50 for tape which I thought was excessive. I had used Golan's previously for a different service and I would suggest that they send a separate contract and information for each move. I never received any contract or packing info for this move and the previous info I received was inaccessible (I didn't realize this until the move was completed).

I contacted them last minute and they were accommodating. They helped me pack as well as move and did a good job protecting my furniture. They were professional, did a good job, and were very fast because they had a lot of people helping.

They were there a few minutes early and worked non stop. I was amazed they got everything in what looked like a small truck. There was only one item broke that was a glass thermos, all the delicate stuff was fine. Even the antiques. We were pleased. There were no scratches, nicks or dents at either end-- I would recommend them to others.

They were fine. They were a little over the estimate, but it wasn't outrageous. Their price was comparable to the other quotes that we had got. I have used them a couple more times.

They showed up on time and arrived at the destination on time as well. I don?t believe they damaged anything during the transportation. However, when they were bringing some of the mattresses upstairs, I think they caught one of the mattresses on a device and dismounted it from its base, but it wasn?t a big deal. I couldn?t communicate with everyone on the team and that was because not everyone knew English. There was at least one who was fluent in English.

Golan's was highly recommended to us, so we called them for our move. HUGE mistake. They would only do an over-the-phone estimate. We were quoted ~ 2 -3 hours work for the move-out portion. We were promised four men to move; only 3 showed up. Once they showed up, all of our boxes were out and loaded within 30 minutes. "Cool! These guys are haulin'!" I thought. Then they proceeded to wrap, wrap, and triple-wrap all of our other belongings -- a service we had not asked for. The "2 hour job" took nearly 8. Just for that first day alone, our planned ~$500-600 move was well over $1,000. They charged us for every blanket, roll of tape, and cardboard they used to pack our furniture -- again, something we were not told they would charge for, nor did we request. Oh, and they brought in muddy dollies to move my bedroom furniture, and stained the brand-new carpeting. (they did take care of cleaning the stain, though) The unload was much better, much faster, and truer to estimate. Still, when all was said and done, we spent about 3x what we were planning. I will not use them again ever. We DID end up paying approximately $6,000, because our items were stored for 6 weeks at their warehouse."

They went out of their way and stored the things overnight for us. They were flexible with all the things that came up while moving. One of the guys got stuck in the elevator and everybody else sat around for half an hour wondering what to do. Finally I had to tell them to use the stairs instead. Other than that they were doing a pretty good job of carrying the things through the status. They were very fast, professional and I got what I paid for. They didn't charge me anything extra.

They were okay. I did not like them very much because I lost some damage insurance from them when my dryer was damaged. They declined to reimburse me for the damages because I did not take pictures of the damage before I got it fixed. I would not recommend them.

In both our moves with Golan the size of truck and crew were estimated correctly (something that we paid dearly for when it was done badly once before). The crew were friendly, punctual and hard working. They took care bothof our pieces as well as the walls and floors we were leaving behind. At the destination end in Hyde Park, we were a bit unsure about placement of various things because work is still being done on the house, so a lot of stuff is just being kept out of the way, not placed where it goes. The guys couldn't have been nicer about waiting while we dithered a bit over whether a box should go to the basement, or in a corner, etc. They also offer a service where they will get signs from the city to block the street during the move. As we are on a narrow one-way street with no alley, this seemed worth the effort. They did exactly what they said and made both our lives, and our neighbors lives easier. I've never called their operation and not gotten a person, or a good answer, or a call back. Best move ever. Twice.

We were very happy with Golan's. They were early, they came with enough people to handle the job on a timely basis, and the truck was big enough. The guys were very professional and careful with our belongings. On the day of our first move it was raining buckets and the yard that they were moving though was soaking wet and muddy - they carefully dried their feet before entering every single time they came into the house with another box. We were very impressed with their care and professionalism.

They put stickers for inventory which was a nice concept, but they were not counciousess about where they were putting the stickers on unwrapped furniture so it left a sticky residue that was hard to get off. We also have contacted them for a missing rug and they said they couldn't help with finding the location of the rug because the inventory control stated that all the inventory made it to the location. The workers were very patient with the move.

The building we moved to has tight restrictions on elevator use. They had access to the elevator at 7:30 pm. They handled the move flawlessly! They took an extremely stressful situation and made it run smooth. I immediately recommended them to a friend that used them the following week...with the same results.

We have never seen people work harder, more quickly, or more conscientiously. A five-man team arrived at 7 AM with boxes and packing paper and they got right to work. The team leader was Salvador and he was extremely personable and helpful. The rest of the team was also incredibly friendly and hard-working. They systematically and carefully packed up all our stuff (including fragile dishes and glasses, large framed pictures, and computer equipment). Then they got it all down the stairs and into their truck. They patiently drove to our other storage facilities and loaded that stuff as well. Then they moved our stuff into the townhouse, and went to the extra effort of making sure that the right boxes and furniture went to the right rooms. They were done by about 5 or 6 PM. Especially having used other moving companies in Chicago before, this was an incredibly satisfying experience that exceeded expectations. Thank you, Golan!

They were very punctual and they took very good care of my belongings. They were courteous and very tidy. Their prices were a little higher but they were responsive and completed their work systematically.

The men (2) arrived at the scheduled time. Asked what needed to be done & then just got to work & got the job done. They finished withing 2 hours. All I can say is they were very professional, neat, pleasant & all aroumd nice men. I would definitely use them again!!

The quote and booking process was very easy. I called for a quote about 2 months before my actual move because I knew I would be moving around the holidays and wanted to be sure I could find someone who would be available. I spoke with Tammy (and a guy whose name I can't remember) and was quoted $90 per hour for a 2 man crew with a 2 hour minimum, plus a $45 transportation fee. I thought this was very reasonable, not to mention worth it for moving in cold, snowy January! When I called back to book it, they had all my information in the computer so I didn't have to repeat myself. They assured me that the crew would, in fact, show up and would be on time even though I was moving January 2nd. I was emailed a confirmation and they called me twice in the week before to confirm the move. I gave a B for punctuality because they were actually EARLY. I was nervous about this because I had freight elevator time scheduled at each building and I didn't want to waste time waiting for the elevators. It turned out to be okay, however. The movers (unfortunately I cannot remember their names) were efficient and took great care wrapping my belongings. Nothing was damaged. My only issue is the move was quoted at 2 hours, but it ended up taking 3.5. This was partly due to the fact that they had to disassemble my bed and reassemble it. If they hadn't had to do that it would have been probably 2.5 hours. Fortunately after the 2 hour minimum they charge you in 15 minute increments. I would definitely hire them again, but I would assume a longer time for the move.

They were good in the estimate and picking up the possessions. The woman, Diana, we talked to was on top of everything. They weren't good in delivering the furniture. The furniture was picked up a week before she left and guaranteed it would be delivered within ten days of her arrival. The furniture was not delivered within that time. They did not call her to say they hadn't left or that it would be delivered late. She had to call the company to find out what was going on. My daughter didn't get to talk to Diana because she was on vacation. She was not offered any compensation for the delay. They made arrangements to deliver the furniture when she was available. The movers packed up the furniture and possessions carefully and nothing was lost or broken. Everything was fine right up till the delivery. We would think twice before we hired them again.

Overall it went well, they were very friendly professional and prompt. They were accommodating when I needed a washer and dryer brought from Michigan to be added to my load to go to St. Louis. Only one piece of furniture was broken, I bought the insurance but the claims process is so complicated I haven't done it yet. This is frustrating because the guys on the truck were very apologetic, but the paper work is left to me to do, and that doesn't seem right.

I called Golan's and they asked me to describe the type and amount of belongings I had to move, the type of residences I was moving in and out of, and the distance of the move. Based on my answers, they decided to send a 5-man crew at $150/hr, plus $75 for travel, plus whatever packing materials I used. Since I had used them before, they gave me a 10% discount on packing materials and free wardrobe box rentals for the day of the move. They were able to drop off plenty of packing materials (boxes, packing paper, tape) prior to the move, since I was packing most things myself. They do not charge for packing materials that you do not use. The moving crew arrived on time and were professional and courteous. They were extremely hardworking and fast. The job took about 8 hours from start to finish, and they only took one 20-minute lunch break. This was despite the fact that it was a cold, rainy/snowy December day. They asked me questions when necessary and were respectful of my belongings. They did an excellent job overall. I have recommended these movers to anyone I know who is not trying to move "on the cheap." I've used them twice before.

I really liked them. They are easy to reach on the phone and polite. They came out and gave me an estimate, which was higher than the other companies, but you pay by the actual weight of your things, so once they weighed my belongings I actually ended up paying less than the estimate. I chose them because I felt there would be no surprises. The guys who came were incredibly efficient and pleasant. The one thing that was problematic was that when they stored my things I was to call them and let them know when to deliver it. It was supposed to be within two weeks, but when I called they said that they weren't able to deliver it and it took about a month before they could. Other than that I thought they were dependable.

Excellent. They arrived promptly at the designated start time. Swiftly moved all items. Helped us move things around in the new home. Very courteous. We moved on a rainy day. They covered our light colored carpeting with a "saran/like substance". No damage to carpeting at all. Would definitely recommend them and use them again.

The whole experience was fantastic. I had packed almost all of my stuff and moved a lot of the small boxes. I'd planned on having the movers just take the big stuff and take boxes until the time was used up. They were so fast that they got all of my furniture and packed boxes loaded up and delivered with half an hour to spare. I was trying hard to find things for them to do to use up my last half hour, but they even finished those jobs quickly. It broke my heart to let them go, but they had done everything! They let me decide what to bubble wrap and what to leave alone, which was nice because it kept me from paying for unnecessary packing materials. The guys were friendly and fun the whole time, joking and laughing while they worked. I was astonished at how much they could lift, how quickly they could work, and how happy they could stay while they did their work. This was well worth my money, and I will hire Golan's again in the future.
