 + -1 moreThe technician showed up pretty much on time on the scheduled day but his imaging device ran out of batteries after 10 minutes or so. He said that he would call me to reschedule a time to finish the service. He never called. I called him and left a message and he never returned my call. I sent an email via Angie's List giving them one last chance and they still never responded. At this point I am not sure if this is a legitimate business. I purchased a Deal for these services (only $59 but still) and I would like a refund. I cannot recommend this provider.
Description of Work: They were supposed to provide thermal imaging to tell me where I needed insulation, where I had infiltration etc.

 + 0 moreWe were interested in a thermal scan after having completed a large remodeling project last year, which included installation of insulation by another insulation contractor on roof and walls in remodeled areas. We had problems with ice dams recently, and wanted to make sure insufficient insulation wasn't the problem. Ecotec scanned ceilings, walls, around windows, doors, areas where wall and ceiling met, etc., to identify problem areas. Phil from Ecotec patiently answered all of my questions and explained at what point he thought temperature differences were significant enough to warrant additional insulation, and weighed in on cost/benefits of installing additional insulation. I thought Phil was knowledgeable and experienced, he provided good information and I didn't feel any upselling pressure from him.
Description of Work: Ecotec provided a thermal scan of the interior of our home.

 + 0 moreWanted to sell me insulation, which I need. However, what they have to offer is unnecessary and expensive. I was not impressed with the "science" they tried to employ. No data to back up their claims. Nor did he take data about my home. Calculated what the cost will be on a piece of scrap paper, no formal quote or statement of work. I thought they were unprofessional.

 + 0 moreScheduling was easy and the receptionist was nice. The man did arrive on time to the appointment. It was not clear from the Big Deal that the only thing that the company did was spray foam insulation. It seemed that I was going to get more advice on how to make my home more energy efficient. All the guy did was walk around and say that everything looked pretty good. He would walk around asking me what I wanted him to do. He never even looked up in the attic, but said it would cost a couple thousand dollars for the work if I chose to have it done. I even brought him into the bathroom because there is area four feet away from the wall that is really cold. All he said is that he could spray foam on it. The deal was kind of a disappointment. For what I received, the value for price was not good.

Description of Work: I responded to an angie's ad for an energy eval. I thought that the company was going to suggest a number of ways I could alleviate leaks and remediate heat loss. The company was basically trying to sell a process where they blow in insulation by cutting holes in the walls and then blowing in the product. What you are left with is many holes that require drywall patching and painting. I understand the cost of such a project from the person who came to my house could be upwards of $20-$30K (not including the drywall and re-painting work). When I asked about locating and seeing any leaks to my windows the person said he also installs windows and suggested I replace my windows. Bottom line-- these people may be good at what they do but make sure you know what they are really selling. I did not even bother having the person use his meter throughout my house to show me all the areas where I may have heat loss given I was not interested in spending upwards of $20K. I asked him how long it would take to get "paid back" from the energy savings I might realize were I to go ahead with such a project. He could not answer.

 + -1 moreHe showed me everything using the technology he had to see what the cold spots in the house were. He explained everything very well, was professional and very nice. He then gave me an estimate on replacing the insulation in the attic which was the main concern. The price was for foam insulation with removal of the existing insulation which is old and spotty. I feel that the price on the new insulation is too high so will shop around before I commit. Otherwise a great experience

 + -1 moreI thought that this product was an assessment of heat loss areas in my home, but in reality it was more a way for me to pay for them to quote me on insulation work. The representative who showed up was not completely prepared and unable to provide me the results of the assessment by email for several weeks. After a call to the company that promised resolution the next day, another couple of weeks went by and I received a partial description of the assessment, along with some uninspiring excuses.

The rep gave me a couple options on how his firm could remediate the insulation gaps--later on he sent cost estimates for each option. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and easy to deal with.

 + -1 moreThey were able to give me a quote via email, I just sent them a copy of the blueprints. They turned that around in less than two days. The quote came in less than what I had researched so I was very happy about that. I gave them two weeks notice before we were ready and they came out on time. However we still had some electrical work that needed to be finished first. They were really cool about it and came back out two days later. A small hiccup with the arrival time but that's fine considering we had to reschedule. Probably the only complaint I can find is that we had to clean out quit a bit of foam scraps out of our floor vents. Overall a great experience.

 + -1 moreAs of today Feb 24th I do not have the revised quoted or the references I asked for. I made this "Angie's list deal because I wanted to know what additional insulation was required and the company was located quite close to my home. I paid Angie's list and am not at all satisfied with the result. Do not send me anymore Angie's list big deals, just send me my $59 and I will get my own quotes.
Description of Work: They came as requested Jan 21st but didn't seem to know there was a thermal camera involved. The estimator Went to car, got camera but had no memory disk. I walked the house with the rep. and was told I would have the quote by Friday. Two weeks later I called and asked for the quote and it was sent on Jan 31. I called to question the quote about Feb 12 or 13th (the quote was not as I had requested with separate prices for two separate areas and did not show the $250 disc per the "deal".

 + -1 morePhil, the Eco Tech person (salesman?) showed up about 25 minutes late. He did not seem like he knew what he was there for. the Big Deal I purchased promised a thermal energy whole house infared camera scan and analysis of current insulation and thermal envelop, etc. Phil never brought out the infared camera even though I asked several times about it. He walked around and looked at only the areas of the house that I directly asked him to look at. If I asked him to check an area he did but then told me I should call him in the spring and he would set up an assessment. I am puzzled by what I paid for! I got nothing! When I sent an email to this company outlining my concerns, the response I received was an estimate for foam insulation installation. Really????

 + -1 moreThe first service man who came, on time, said he could not do the service that day because someone took the camera out of the car. He said he would call to reschedule. The entire day went by without a call so I called and rescheduled. The next appointment was a week later. This time he called three minutes before the appointment time to say there was an appointment problem and he was on the south side. He blamed the woman in the office. Again I waited for a call to reschedule but none came so I called and said I was upset and wanted someone else to deal with. We were given another appointment and this time we had a different serviceman,Brian, who was very thorough. We felt the cost to insulate the walls would not be returned in savings because they wanted to do all the wall completely instead of just where it was needed.

When they gave me the quote I did not know if it included the discount and no one has called me back to let me know. I got the quote through the email. If they had followed up, I probably would have had the work done right away. He said that they would help me with my rebates. He was very polite and informative. He showed me what everything looked like. They called back right away. He understood what he was talking about. I would use them again.

 + -1 moreI had an appointment with Phil on January 15, 2014. He was punctual and great to deal with. I appreciated his honesty and suggestions. He said he would get back to me with an estimate. I was looking forward to getting the estimate so that I could start a process with my insurance company and then have the work done. I called the office at Eco Tec on January 29,2014 to find out about my estimate. The lady connected me with Phil who said he thought he e-mailed the estimate to me. I assured him that I hadn't received the estimate. He said he would e-mail it to me when he got back to the office later that day. It is now January 30, 2014 and I have yet to receive an estimate. I guess I will look into having the work done by some other company.
