Chi Renovation & Design

Jonathan, the designer came out as scheduled to consult and prepare a remodel design for a master bathroom. He listened to my vision for the project, took measurement of the space and presented me with the scaled diagram a few days later. Based on his presentation and, the research I had done on the company I decided to hire them to do the work. I received a detailed contract which I agreed to. Work has not yet started on the project. This is do in part to the difficulty I've had deciding on furnishing. The design session, which cost $40.00 went well. The remodeling contract, which has resulted from the designer's presentation, has yet to be evaluated. I

My experience was good. They were very professional. They gave me the 3-D drawing that I wanted and he answered all my questions well. They did not give me the actual lay out of the kitchen just a drawing. Their product is out of range for my small budget. The quality of their cabinets are great! If I had a bigger budget I would definitely consider them for the upgrade. I feel that it was a good experience for someone who has never done an upgrade and who is considering it in the future. He helped me make some good decisions about how I want my kitchen to look. He also answered questions about other products that I was thinking of purchasing. I wish he would have given me the measurements of my cabinets so I could use in the future to get more estimates, he didn't. After seeing my review he called me back and said that he would email them to me, but I never got that e-mail.

For some context, I got in touch with Dan, the project manager, only one week before I had to leave on a two week trip to Asia. Naturally I wanted to have the work done while I was gone. Despite the short notice, he made it happen. He went way out of his way multiple times to make things work, including making trips to Home Depot himself as well as another store to get parts that had been missing. He worked around me being in Asia throughout the project, which required him to take calls outside of normal business hours. He even helped fix some shoddy work that had been done by another contractor. He always had an awesome, can-do attitude, which made him a pleasure to work with, even when there was a slight delay due to one of the contractors. The bathroom looks amazing now! Now I?m proud to have people visit and see the work that was done. The craftsmanship is great, and it all came together extremely nicely. Thanks a lot to Dan for making this happen. The cost of the project was slightly under $10k

Our first contact was with Daniel via e-mail to give a general idea of what the job entailed and to set a date in which they would come to the house and evaluate the basement & job at hand. Daniel & Davyd came to the house on 10/30 and I felt the meeting went well. Our basement was finished & served our family room, kids playroom & storage until it was lost in a flood back in August. We were interested in redoing the entire space so that it would be our family room & play room again but also update the bathroom, laundry room & rework the entire space to suit our family's needs. Both Daniel & Davyd listened to was we wanted to do, asked lots of questions and gave some of their own input as well as took several measurements. We told them the budget we were working with and asked them straight out if it was feasible for the amount of work we wanted to do. Daniel said that he thought it would be possible. Before they left Davyd said he would contact us in the next 24 hrs with our dimensions so that we could start looking for flooring, tiles, etc. and Daniel promised to have the proposal along with Davyd's sketches back to us in no longer than two weeks time. We waited with no word from either of them for about three weeks when I called Daniel on his cell phone. He said that he would have our plans to us by the next day. Did not offer an excuse or apology for their tardiness. In fact, I don't really think he remembered us at all as I had to re-cap the entire situation for him before he said he remembered us & our house. We received an e-mail the next day which both had an explanation of the work to be done, Davyd's missing sketches and also the estimate for the entile job minus flooring & tiles. It was laughable. The quote was for DOUBLE our budget! I realized then that we just wasted the last three weeks with this company. Turns out, they did not listen or care about our needs or wants. I think they just played along because they had to honor the $40.00 Angie's List consultation special that we purchased that is currently running. We have not heard a peep from them since then. I will never again deal with this company. There's $40.00 and several weeks that I'll never get back.

CHI was great to work with. The CHI team completed my basement from the bare walls and floors into an amazing family room. I met with several companies to bid on my basement remodel, and Jonathan at CHI offered the most comprehensive proposal with the best value as well as great consulting insight into the design and materials. During the remodel, the project manager Dan was professional, responsive, and diligent. He coordinated each detail of the remodel flawlessly, overseeing quality and to make it a stress-free experience from demo to the final walk-through. I'd recommend this company highly.

Working with Jonathan at Chi Renovations was a very easy experience. He made great cost-effective suggestions and came up with a good basic plan. Although we ultimately decided to do much of the work ourselves, the price for the kitchen plan itself was beyond reasonable and served as a good starting point.

It went really well, but I decided not to use them for the work.

It went very well. We had four estimates for this project and Chi's estimate was very reasonable. They did the job in 2 1/2 days as estimated. The workmen were pleasant and cleaned up the area thoroughly. They went above and beyond, adding finishing touches to the project that made it visually appealing. I would definitely use them for future renovation projects.

They were professional and responsive but we decided to go in another direction with the project/ ended up not using this company for services.

The kitchen renovation started out with Davyd coming out to meet and help us come up with a design for our kitchen. Once the design was finalized (no major structural changes) we met with our project manager, Daniel. Once we set the start date, Eric and his team came over to start the work. They were very courteous and clean with the work space. We had one minor set back with our cabinets (not any fault of CR&D), so that delayed our kitchen renovation by one week. Once the cabinets arrived work started promptly. Chris and his team installed the cabinets, did the electrical and plumbing and worked on the backsplash (the design came out exactly like we had pictured it). Chris was fantastic! Daniel kept us up-to-date on all the renovation details. He worked with us and our work schedules to do the kitchen renovation. The end result is great!

I'd recommend Chi Renovation & Design to anybody - and will preface my review with the note that I am in no way an easy customer. Design & Materials: We called these guys about 1 week before we closed on our place, as we closed on Aug 27 and needed to be out of our rented place by Sept 30. Larry (from the design team) arrived the day after we closed and gave the place a once - over, and then discussed wood options for the floors. We didn't come to a decision that day, so we scheduled a follow-up on September 4 where we looked at a few more flooring options, made a decision, and had Larry order the material on-the-spot. On September 5, Larry came back over with the project manager, Tom, for once final discussion prior to work starting. Work & Installation: The very next week (September 8), Tom and his crew arrived to begin painting. The work was done in a matter of days, and done well. After the painting was completed, we experienced an unfortunate lag in processing (not CR&D's fault - it was Home Depot) for our floors, so we went a week without work being done. Tom and Larry kept us up-to-speed on the delayed material, removed our existing flooring, updated timelines accordingly, and reassured us that the work would be completed within our reasonably tight deadline. After a week of anxious waiting, the floors came in on September 19th, and Tom had his crew work all Saturday the 20th to complete the installation of the hardwoods. Coincidentally, on the same day, we had carpet installed by another company, and Tom's guys worked seamlessly with the carpet folks to make sure that nobody interrupted the respective work going on in various rooms of the house. By the evening of Saturday, September 20, our work was completed and completed well- 10 days ahead of our move deadline and on budget. Issues/Problems: As far as a home improvement project goes, this one came with very minor hiccups. As stated, there was a processing delay in the wood from the vendor, which CR&D couldn't really do anything about. Beyond this, one threshold between our entryway hall and guest bathroom needed adjustment, as did a few structural mounts in our custom closets. Tom scheduled time immediately to fix the highlighted problems and was extremely attentive to our requests. Pricing: Very competitive and fair - you'll be hard pressed to find anybody who hits their pricepoint & craftsmanship. Overall: These guys won't let you down. Larry did a great job helping us choose the design elements of our flooring, and Tom executed each arm of the project on time and with ultra-prompt communication and world-class professionalism. We are truly grateful for their hard work and will be hiring them again this spring for a kitchen re-design. A+

The house was built in the early 1900s and has a number of poorly done DIY "surprises" lurking behind the walls. Not a single wall is even remotely close to square. The Chi crew brought everything back to square. They were very detail oriented and Lior (the project manager) took care to ensure that everything was done according to specifications. With each new "surprise", Lior told us what options we had and what he thought would look best. Chi's prices were very reasonable - other estimates came in at many thousands more for the same work. In all, we're very pleased with the work and would definitely call Chi for our next remodeling project.

We have spoken on the phone. I am looking to have my bathroom updated. I hope to brainstorm with them for ideas.

Our project is going to be $16,400. We chose them over three other potential contractors. I'm hoping they're going to do a great job.

My wife and I decided that we wanted to completely remodel our master bathroom and make it more modern and spacious. We engaged 6-8 contractors and bathroom design companies but each and every estimate seemed extremely high for the scope of work. We almost decided to call it quits on the remodel, but then we stumbled upon Chi-Renovation as a referral from a close friend. Not only was the estimate almost half of what some other companies were quoting us for, but in some instances their vision and concept included much more. Once we signed off on the initial estimate and work effort, the process from concept to design to production was easy and pain free. We had Jonathon as our designer and thought he did a fantastic job of really understanding our taste and piecing together a bathroom and layout that was perfect for us. Not only did he listen, but he also conveniently came to us with the tile and counter options so we didn't have to travel to a large showroom and deal with the enormous magnitude of choices and options. The design experience was great and definitely helped us narrow down and make easy choices. After we finished with the design aspect, Daniel was assigned as our project manager and he was our main point of contact for the rest of the way. Not only did he make the planning and construction pain free, he ensured the project moved along quickly so we didn't have to live without our master bathroom for too long. Some of the companies we originally quoted, estimated the project to take 6 weeks whereas it took Chi-Renovation only 2 weeks to complete the work from beginning to end! A lot of this is credited to Daniel and team for appropriately planning and starting the work with a finish date in sight. As the project moved along, Daniel also did a great job of keeping us informed and advising us of any issues that arose. Even though we did not run into any major problems, we were comforted knowing that Daniel cared how we felt about the progress and were confident he'd put us as a priority should anything major arise. I would highly recommend Jonathon, Daniel and Chi-Renovation for any future work. I'd be very hard pressed to believe there is another company out there that can execute on the design, quality and speed for the cost. It was a great experience for us!

Jonathan, Tom and the CHI Renovation team I worked with were fantastic. They gave me a strong estimate and worked with me around my schedule. They said they would be finished by Saturday and finished a day early--unheard of when it comes to home renovations. The work was impeccably done with excellent attention to detail. All I ever hear are horror stories about contractors and re-modelers, but CHI Renovation was reliable, professional and fair. I highly recommend their services.

From the beginning of the project, Lior and his team understood the direction we wanted to go with the fireplace renovation. The previous fireplace was very dated, clumsy, and without a lot of usable space. In addition, our infant daughter would soon be crawling, so rebuilding it to be safer was an immediate concern. We had made it clear from the start our time schedule for completing for the project, and the team did their best to stay within those parameters. The workers were very respectful of our home and did their best to keep our house clean, considering the type of work being done. Large stones had to be broken out of concrete, the wall rebuilt, custom cabinets/mantle built, and stone tile installed across the entire lower portion of the fireplace. The cable/electrical were also re-routed to get them off of the floor and inputs added for plugs, speakers, and mounting the television. There were a few minor instances where communication of design decisions were not ideal, but Lior and his team were readily available and once discussed there were no issues. In the end the work spoke for itself. The project turned out exactly as we had wanted and provided a much needed update to the space. We would definitely recommend Chi-Renovation & Design.

Chi renovations provided excellent service and high quality work for our renovation. Their team was professional and courteous. They did their best to reduce the dust and dirt created by the job and when operating outside of the "construction zone" they promptly cleaned. When unexpected issues arose, the team was very collaberative and creative overcoming every problem that we encountered. Very happy with the job they did and would use them again on future work.

I could not be happier with the bathroom and minor kitchen remodel that Chi Renovation & Design did for me. After shopping around for a little bit, I decided to go with them because they were the most professional and genuine when I met them for an estimate. I was impressed from the very beginning by how responsive they were. Normally, I hate it when I need to ?work? for a company to get back to me or just correspond in general. But all of my phone calls and emails were returned within half an hour, which for a company in this industry, I can say from past experiences is really rare! Overall the quality of their work is very good. I have seen and worked with other contractors, and I have found Chi Renovation & Design's work to be much better. I particularly liked that they assigned a designer to my project. This was included in the cost. They showed me samples, so I could pick out all the materials. The designer was really good, and I have a beautiful bathroom and kitchen as a result. The proportions are all perfect, and everything is very functional. They were extremely competent and good at what they do. The professionalism of everyone I've worked with was remarkable. Lior has a lot of experience and was able to give me lots of cost-efficient and creative suggestions on what he thought would work for my space. He re-did my entire bathroom and knocked down a wall in our kitchen. He was very patient with answering all of my questions and thorough with the initial estimate he gave. One suggestion in particular proved to be extremely helpful and that was his advice to knock down a wall that was creating an awful divide in our kitchen. Once we got rid of it, the kitchen transformed into a much more open and sophisticated space. Another thing I was very pleased with was how timely and neat they were, I really appreciated that. I trusted having them around and they did an excellent job. I'm very happy with everything and would definitely recommend them.

As first time homebuyers we were wary of doing any type of construction. However, Lior and his team gave us confidence to do the project. From the first meeting you could tell that Lior was a professional and that he knew what he was doing. Our two most important factors were our budget and time frame. Lior assured us that he could do the projects in our time frame and on budget, and he definitely delivered. Everyone who worked on this project was respectful and detail oriented. Lior told us from the beginning that he could be as involved in the design aspect of the bathroom as we liked, and having this be the first time, it was great to have his help. We went to the condo several times (we bought the place and started construction because as there was only one bathroom it would be hard to live there during construction) and were able to see how fast they worked. Along the way we were called for our input on different design elements. We felt that we weren't left out of the loop without feeling overwhelmed by everything going on. We have gotten so many compliments on our bathroom. We would like to redo our kitchen in a couple of years and we will definitely be calling Chi Renovations then. In the meantime, I've already recommended them to my parents to get an estimate for some renovations they are planning to do in the suburbs.

I was very satisfied with the work Chi Renovation did on my kitchen and bathroom renovations. I had been needing to remodel both areas for a few years so I knew it was time to hire a contractor. I was indecisive at first, but Lior and his team were very patient. They identified the infrastructure problems that would be crucial in selling the house. Getting the permits and passing the inspections from the village of Glencoe went well. As with all contractors expect the level of work to depend on the contractor doing the work not the GC. He sent several sets of contractors: most were excellent. There were occasions where some were not as good - he quickly replaced them. We had a time placing the refrigerator (trial and error) - but it came out great. There were some unexpected design errors that we had to compensate for, but this was expected due to the number of modifications and an older house. At the end, Lior made sure it looked good. He doesn't argue with you. If you are not satisfied, he senses this and makes the needed corrections. He has a great eye for design and put his talents to good use when it came to choosing kitchen cabinets and granite countertops. There were times I had to wait to get exactly what I wanted, but that was a small price to pay for the end result. Lior had a lot of great ideas and brought in samples, which helped me choose a beautiful porcelain backsplash and dark porcelain floors. I really like the way my kitchen looks and how great my stainless steel appliances fit with the design. He also was generous enough to offer me his contractor?s discount at ABT to help me save some cash on the cost of the appliances. Once the time came to do the bathroom remodeling job, we first looked through all my options for tile and paint. He brought in a color consultant after neither of us could select a paint color - she was excellent. Overall I wanted to select and pay for the materials, but wanted good workmanship at my price. The overall budget was significantly exceeded because I substituted my selection of top line materials over the stock items. He came in on budget for the labor which is what I originally wanted. In addition they built a wet bar in the den and used the same granite that they had installed in the kitchen, so the rooms flow together very nicely. He allowed me access to all his suppliers and workman. I tend to be involved in all my remodeling so this is important to me. If I do another renovation I will definitely use Chi Renovation, and I recommend them to anyone looking for a contractor. I called everyone of his references and they were all good and would use him again.

It is incredibly hard to trust construction companies these days. Most do shotty work and are less than undependable. I believe that a house isthe single most expensive thing you'll ever buy and you should be very careful with who you trust its upkeep and maintenance to. A negligent inspector combined with a 100 year old house put my family in financial jeopardy. We had put money aside for renovations but it was a very strict budget and we could not afford to waste time and money on questionable construction. These guys came in and did an above and beyond job. They showed up on time. They were courteous. They took pride in their work. And most importantly they respected my home. The end result was incredibly satisfying. I am grateful that we found and used these guys. My house is now structurally sound and my basement looks brand spanking new. I can only assume that this has upped the resale value of my home. I hope you take this review to heart and hire these guys. They're awesomer than awesome.

Wonderful, the pergola "awning" enhances the look of our home. It's a modern Dwell Magazine type look. Lior was able to capture my idea with drawings, until we came up with exactly the right image. Lior was helpful and very knowledgeable. The costs were clarified upfront, and he tried to keep them down as much as possible. He knew that a certain expensive treated lumber was not needed, and would have been damaging- encased in metal, due to toxic gasses. The metal installation came in a variety of colors, so I chose a grayish bronze for a modern look. When the weather becomes warm, he will have my trim painted to match. The pergola stretches from over my front door, to the left of the house, over a picture window. There are 2 floating posts (about 2 feet behind the front), and a third post in a different area of the house, to tie the look together. The structure is five feet deep. There are metal slats from front to back, so light comes through. The pergola is higher than the original overhang, so my front door doesn't crash into it, as it did in the past. I felt bad that the weather was so freezing cold, when the workers were here. But they insisted on continuing until all was complete. The were very professional, and cleaned up each night. The project needed to go before the Wilmette zoning board of appeals, which Lior handled. He even took care of the neighborhood petition which needed to be signed. I am very thankful to Lior for his professional and creative work. The job is beautiful, I love it! I totally trust Lior to take on architectural projects with integrity.

We had our basement flooded over the summer, and lost pretty much everything down there. After that was all cleaned up, drywall gutted up 4 feet, and the flood control repaired, we were finally able to look into getting the basement renovated. After making several calls and looking around, we settled with Chi Renovation. They've done a fantastic job and our basement much better than it did before. They estimated a couple weeks to complete, but we were able to work out a good schedule and they finished in just over a week. We are happy with the results and would definitely recommend them.
