AMERICAN BATHTUB REFINISHING INC

Our bathtub was refinished by American Remodeling Service (DBA American Bathtub Refinishing) in July of 2012. We were very happy with the quality of the refinishing of our cast iron tub and the color/finish was perfect. Fast forward 3 years and the finish started to peel off. We contacted them about their 5 year warranty and a technician came out today and removed the defective coating and refinished the entire tub in less than 2 hours for free. This is what a warranty should be. No questions and no hassles.

It took about two and one half hours to do. Smell is strong but that's what comes with it. Looks beautiful. Am wondering how long it will hold up with that shiny finish. I had same tub done 10 yrs ago. That held up reasonably well. I'm concerned about this tub. Looks too good to be true.

They arrived on time, were prepared and finished the job in a timely manner.

Aron was little busy and we started this afternoon instead of 10AM-11Am as scheduled. Aron and his partner began working immediately. My bathtub was in good condition and just needed the glossiness restored after leaving I found some minor pitting or bubbles that might cure itself after it drys. However I called Aron and left a voicemail about that problem. I have NEVER paid any contractor in cash except Aron because he seemed trust worthy. I hope to hear back from his company if there is a problem. The finish looks very good but still needs to set up overnight. The products used was excellent and color match was from Kohler instead of TOTO but no big deal off white is off white!

There was a special at the time for the color white. Scheduling the appointment was very easy. They were able to come on the date and time period I needed. The technician, Alex, was great. Professional and courteous. He was scheduled to arrive between 1 and 2pm. He called me from outside my place at 1:02pm. The fumes were nowhere near as bad as I had been expecting. Of course, it helped that they had a fan set up to blow the fumes out of the bathroom and all the way out my balcony. The bathtub looks great.

Aron called me at 9:30 that he was on his way to my house. An hour passed and he didn't arrive so I called to ask how much longer it would be and he seemed to have forgotten who I was and that he was supposed to be refinishing my tub. My call actually reminded him about my job. His original quote was $285. He said I needed anti-skid, $60. He found 2 scratches that needed to be filled, $30. It was odd, he never stopped to talk to me or look at me while he was speaking. I don't know what he looks like. He was always walking away to his van/to the bathroom, etc. while speaking to me all while on his cell phone. The job looked fine after he left, it was hard to stay too long in the bathroom because of the fumes. The next day I noticed some flaws and blemishes and the paint came off with me scratching it with my fingernail. He agreed to come back to do repairs, but could not give me a time. He kept asking me to call and remind him in a few hours and asking if he could come late at night and to just leave our back door unlocked? This went on for a couple days. He finally showed up, re-did the tub and asked for another $150 which we did not give to him. He still did not do a good job on the tub, now the flaws/blemishes are in different spots.

They got here right on time and started right away on the job. They removed the old finished and sanded several bad spot and then went about putting on the new finish. They also put a slip resistant finish on the bottom of the tub. When they were done they did a good job of cleaning up. I was very happy with the job.

Alex started the job by slopping paint stripper all over--tub, wall, floor & baseboard. He did not cover anything for protection. When I told him he needed to cover the surrounding areas he said the stripper would not hurt anything. There are now spots on the ceramic tile floor and paint came off from the baseboard. He also spilled stripper on the wood floor in the hall & damaged it. The paint finish on the bathtub is not glossy or smooth. There are dents & dings all over. The bottom looks like the surface was chipped and then just painted over. There is no paint under the faucet. While waiting for the stripper to work Alex said he was going to turn his car around because he had parked facing the wrong direction--he disappeared for 30 minutes. The other people in the building complained because he left at least a half a pack of cigarette butts on the ground in the back yard. When I called to complain I was told that only Alex could make any corrections. Alex made two appointments to come to my home and did not show up or call either time. I complained to the Better Business Bureau and this company, American Bathtub Refinishing aka American Remodeling Service aka ALS Refinishing, did not respond.

The tech showed up on time and worked extremely hard all day and came back for a second day to finish the job. The final product was absolutely amazing. We now have a gleaming white bathroom. The level of quality was very high and the attention to detail very strong. I was skeptical about refinishing a tub and tile but it looks very natural and very clean.

During the quote process I was finding a wide range of pricing depending on the different processes each individual company uses. When I spoke to this company the girl who answered was helpful, relatively educated on the procedure, her competitors, and reassured me that I would be happy with the work done. I accepted the quote over the phone, which was reasonable. Luckily, a slot opened up due to a cancellation the following day at 2:00 pm. The technician was 45 minutes late, however he was courteous and completed the work that day. The work was being performed in a garden unit and the technician forgot to open half the windows in the unit and the other half were only slightly opened. The overpowering odor created an issue for the 3 floors of tenants above the garden unit. The smell dispersed by the following morning, but I was held responsible for one tenants hotel bill. The technician should have been more diligent regarding the odor.

We called for an estimate and appointment. We made the appointment in the only time available for us which required us to take time off from work . The company never showed up to do the work and never called. We had to call them after waiting an hour to find out where they were and they blamed the 'no show' on traffic. This does not explain why they couldn't call us. The appointment was between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Not a difficult time of day for traffic.

I intended to have the bathtub done first, but was advised not to, as a precautionary measure in case the tub may be damaged by other workers. The person who scheduled the appointment was knowledgeable. The tub refinisher was 15 minutes early and courteous. He used exhaust equipment which released fumes outside the bathroom, through the window. The tub looks great! It has a beautiful nice, fresh white finish. Very glad I had it refinished and didn't spend the money to replace it with a fiberglass tub,which I'd originally thought about doing.

I had my fiberglass tub refinished, the price is EXCELLENT! The guy was very friendly, 1st appt was a no show. Rescheduled for a few weeks later, finally happened and it looked excellent (beware do this in the summer when you can have ALL you windows open, the smell is bad!). I had to recaulk the edges myself, no problem, then a crack I had patched broke again and the tub was unusable (the crack was on the floor and I didn't want water to leak below). This was 2 weeks after it was done. It took about 1 month for them to come out (he said it was the busy time of year, around X-mas). Appt was for 9 am, finally the owner came at noon. I thought Lucas, the guy who originally did it, was going to come, instead it was the owner Al. Well it's fixed, it took a couple hours, hopefully it'll last. There is a blob of foam on my bathroom floor but other than that he left everything clean.
