They are the only company out there that uses cedar oil. It does not have a bad smell and the odor goes away in about 4-5 hours. The pricing for this treatment was very reasonable as well. This is the only way to go. This works very well both inside and outside. They had a technician who was bilingual, which was nice. Overall, they are all nice people. Scheduling was excellent as well. They are a good company to work with and have a great product.
Description of Work: I have them do pest control once a year.

and my house still smells. I would highly recommended considering other options before choosing A plus pest control. He also did not seal up the crawl space after leaving so my husband rushed home to put the door back on. They did end up waving the fee.
Description of Work: We have a rodent problem in our single family home in Lake view. We called A plus pest control and informed them of our situation. That we had a rat die in our crawl space. We had someone come out an remove the rat from the space a few days earlier from another company (they do not provide pest control just removal). Pat informed me for $145.00 someone would come out and seal up any concrete and set traps etc. We had Joe arrive 10 minutes late. He shows up without tools or a sufficient flashlight. He asks for tools and a flashlight to enter our crawlspace. He says he cannot enter the crawl space becuase he cannot fit. He places posion in my front yard without asking if it is okay he knows I have two children and a dog as I am standing there with them when he arrives at my home. I ask him to leave because he cannot "fit" in my crawlspace. He then asks me to pay for his services. I cannot believe he has the nerve to ask for money as he did nothing but waste my time and put unwanted poison in my yard. They call themselves a green company. I called the owner Rick to discuss he made excuses stating the crawl space is too small my response is "the term crawl implies you mut crawl in it". Not to mention I had someone here two days earlier in my crawl space with no problem. He asked why I did not allow Joe to throw poison in my home I said because he will not be able to crwal in and remove them. He said, "they will just decompose and you will not smell anything" I said really becuase I just had two removed

First of all, I’m sorry for any misunderstanding that the {Member name removed} may have had about our services. Someone that knows us recommended us to them. • Patrick, my Office Manager, did talk to them and told them that we only treat. We do not, as was stated, do seal up work. We refer this work to contractors. • Later, I called and talked to {Member name removed} and later to {Member name removed}, I explained this. They said they are thinking of buying the house and what was my opinion? I told them that the crawl space should be cemented in to avoid rats from burrowing in under the crawlspace, which they did, through a burrow in the front of the house. I also explained that the burrow needed to be treated and I did not know a natural way to do it. • I’m sorry that my technician, Joe was late, but Patrick did give her an hour window. • We were not told that there was a heavy metal staircase covering the entrance to the crawlspace in the back of the house. She had to get a neighbor to help pull it out. He did ask for a screwdriver and his flashlight was small. He could, however see in the crawl space, but could not fit. It has a very small opening. • The problem, as I mentioned above, is that, in order to eliminate the rats, the burrow (rat hole) had to be treated. Joe treated it with a powder. He put it only in the burrow in front. He should have told her what he was doing before he treated. • When Ray talked toPatrick later, he hollered and used profanity profusely, using all “F” words. • When I called Ray, he said that there was white powder all over his front lawn. When I pressed him, he admitted that the lawn was clean and only the burrow was treated. • Removing the dead rats under the crawl space did not eliminate the smell. If they would have told Patrick ahead of time, we could have thrown charcoal bags in the crawl space, which would have absorbed the odor and Joe would not have needed to crawl in. • Joe offered to screw the cover back on the crawl space, but Micha told him to leave, as her husband would do it when he came home. When I talked to Ray later, I said no one was available to come back that day to help him put back the metal stairs back but someone could come the next day. He said no. He would handle it. • As mentioned, I did wave the charge. • I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I believe it was a lack of communication all parts. We have an excellent reputation and will continue to offer great service. In this case, if AI were there, I would have walked away from the job because the customers were not reasonable.

We had bed bugs – badly. Our apt managers paid for extermination treatments by A-Plus Pest Control. Our assigned technician never showed up on time and often never showed up at all. I would wait for him to show or call (missing work) and would end up calling the A-Plus office myself only to be told that the tech was unavailable. They never called to let me know that the tech would be late, or not show, or to re-schedule a missed appointment. This happened several times. After 7 weeks of spraying, we not only still had bed bugs, but they had spread to other rooms in the apartment. A manager from A-Plus came with a representative from our apt management company to determine if the treatments were not working due to the tech’s or our fault. The A-Plus rep remarked that it was obvious that we had done everything we were supposed to do (all belongings in plastic bags/bins, etc.) It was then that I learned that our assigned tech was not only supposed to be spraying the apartment, but was supposed to be using a fogger and a heat unit as well. For months, when this man had shown up, he hadn’t even been doing what he was supposed to be doing. The manager promised to continue our treatment himself…and proceeded to miss the next appointment without notifying us. We demanded that our apt managers hire another company.
Description of Work: Bed-bug extermination (that wasn’t.) Our assigned technician sprayed our apartment with an “enzyme” once per week for seven weeks. We now know that the only thing that kills bed bugs is extreme temperature.

This review was written a year after our experience. Since then we have treated hundreds of apartments very successfully for bed bugs. When something does not work, it is usually a communication or scheduling issue. From the gist of member's review, it looks like mainly a scheduling issue. I talked to the two technicians who treated her apartment. They both said that she and her husband continuously changed the schedule and made it hard for us to schedule. They also said that the apartment was full of animals and was very cluttered, making treatment very difficult. Look at our ratings. Out of 49 reports we have 33 A’s & 6 B’s and 2 Angie’s List Super Service Awards.

bagging up all of my clothes, moving furniture away from the walls, washing and ruining clothes in hot water, and purchasing watertight containers to contain the clothes I would need to continue wearing. On the day treatment was scheduled, I waited close to 1.5 hours for the pest control guy to arrive before I called and spoke with Patrick. I explained the cigarette nonsense that occurred the week prior and Patrick said, "Joe is kinda young and immature. I'm going to send Jesse tomorrow. He has 15 years of experience and he's a grandfather." Another 45-minutes later, Joe showed up and I explained that someone else was coming. The following day, Jesse arrived and he sprayed and fogged the entire apartment. I expressed concern over fogging, since the evidence that I read dissuades it and the State of Illinois advises against it as an ineffective treatment. He suggested that this would take care of it and that he would return the following week. The landlord then emailed me to suggest that there were not bedbugs in the apartment and A-Plus sent a third person out today. The third guy, Philip, did a more thorough inspection and said that he saw no evidence of bedbugs. He noted all that I had gone through to prepare, while on the phone with his company he stated, "it looks like a tornado hit in here with all that she did to prepare." This is because my rooms are full of triple bagged trash bags and large ziploc bags that I was told needed to remain until treatment was concluded. After this whole traumatic nightmare, I called and spoke with Rick, the owner. He claims no responsibility for the time, expense, and issues related to the service of his employees. From beginning to end this service was horrible.
Description of Work: This company was hired by my landlord after I saw bugs that I was concerned were bed bugs. I captured bugs and contained them in bags. When the first pest control person, Joe, arrived, he looked in the bag and said it was bed bugs. I began asking questions about treatment, etc. He indicated that a lot of times landlords do not like to pay for their services, so I should go out and buy a professional steamer and steam all of my baseboards. I asked about whether or not I needed to be concerned about my vehicle and he suggest that I roll all of the windows in the car up and "smoke three cigarettes." I called my landlord when he left and they immediately called A-Plus to set up treatment. At that time, Patrick called me to schedule treatment and I asked a number of other questions. Patrick emailed me a document for how I should prepare for treatment. I spent the following days, clearing out all of the closets,

I’m sorry that the member feels this way. We service apartment buildings for bed bugs just about every day and are considered experts in our field. Many people like us because we use “green,” non-toxic techniques (such as IPM or Integrated Pest Management) and use natural products, such as our own line of products called, “Plus Natural Enzymes.” We work with environmentalists and I am frequently interviewed on radio and TV. The management company, with whom we a great amount of pest control business, called us to inspect member's apartment for bed bugs. I talked to the technician, Joe. Joe said that the member gave him a Zip Lock bag with one bed bug in it. Joe inspected her bed and the entire apartment and no additional bed bugs. When I talked to the member later that week, she said that Joe never did an inspection. She told Joe that she had no bites and that the reason for her concern was that a lady in her church has a bed bug on her clothes. She asked Joe what she could do immediately herself. He told her to buy a steamer. He did not say anything about the landlord paying or not. The property manager told me that she never authorized the complete 5 week service (as compared with the inspection, which was authorized.) The property manager also told me that the member told her that she never received the Bed Bug Preparation Sheet from us. We faxed it to her and she even refers to it in her complaint. Jesse did a service at member's apartment and reported to me that he saw no sign of bed bugs. There were glueboard monitors placed around various areas of the apartment and there were never any bed bugs found on them. We are licensed by the Department of Public Health and I know nothing of the fact that fogging is ineffective. We use our own natural product, called Plus Natural Enzymes Pest Eliminator, a salt and enzymes formula which we spray and fog and is very effective against bed bugs. Because this product is not repellant, it does not drive bed bugs deep into the walls but kills them on contact. Jesse explained this to member. When Jesse reported to Patrick in the office that he did not see bed bugs, Patrick then sent another technician, Filip to inspect. He reported that there were no bed bugs in the apartment. Patrick called the member and told her that she did not need further service. She was mad and I called her back later asking if it was a good thing that she did not have bed bugs. She then proceeded to tell me that she had spent over 500.00 bagging up her clothes and preparing and had lost work time. Of course, if we did all 5 services, as we normally do, she would have to mill a total of 5 partial days of work. She asked me what I would do to fix the problem and again, I asked her if she was happy that she did not have bed bugs. I asked her what she wanted from me, such as money, and she said nothing. I told her that because the management company had hired us, she would have to talk to the property manager. Last Saturday, I received an email from the member that was sent to the property management company also asking for reimbursement of over 900.00 for Ziplock bags, plastic storage containers; steam cleaner, trash bags and watertight storage containers plus lost time at work. Again, I would hope that the member is grateful that she doesn’t have bed bugs. I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but it would be a blessing for me to hear good news.

Description of Work: UPDATE: Ant control. This is a follow up to the review I submitted on May 26. The ratings above reflect the result after the owner contacted me about the complaint. The owner, Rick, explained that he never received the email alluded to in my original review and offerred to satisfy my complaint to my full satisfaction. As a result my confidence in the company has been restored and I now would not hesitate to recommend them. ----- company performed ant control on 3/9/12. My understanding was that if ants returned thru the summer, the service would be performed again at no charge. In early May the ants returned. I called for service. The person came a week later and informed me the service was fully chargeable. I refused the service and tried to contact Rick, the owner, per phone but unsuccessfully. Finally, I sent an email to him at the address shown on their card. No one responded. My complaint is twofold: 1. It shouldn't take a week to reservice a prior unsuccessful job: and 2. They never responded to a followup complaint. My conclusion is that this company doesn't back up their product and doesn't care if you're satisfied or not.

The gentleman who came out to service our home was wonderful to work with. He walked me through every step of his work, and even double checked that the products he was using would be safe for our kids and dog. We had just moved into a home that had been vacant for several months, and had quite a problem with rodents and insects. Because the house had such issues, I called for a reservice a few weeks later, and the work was done quickly. I wouldn't hesitate to call A-Plus Pests again.
Description of Work: Inspected for mice and spiders. Set out safe poison boxes, sprayed for bugs.

My wife had called them because we thought we might have problems with roaches. It turns out they were not roaches, they were some other type of bug. The gentleman inspected the whole house and instead of charging for services just gave my wife some helpful hints. For instance he saw a wasp nest and foudn where wasps were entering and eixting. he removed the nest and patched a whol with tape in the attic. Charged us nothing. We will definitely call on them first if we have any further problems

They are great. I like that someone answered the phone right away when I called, they are very courteous, and they explain what their services are and they give you an accurate price range. They came when they said they would and it really worked. They would come out and check out any problems if I called them for no extra charge. Their price was on par with the other companies that I called. They told me what to expect; they told me the oil would have a specific smell and they were exactly correct on how long it would last. It was easy to talk to them on the phone, the person that came was polite, and they did what they needed to do but they were professional about it.

I think they were acquired by another company. I think everybody in the region had an issue with ants. They did a good job. The gentleman I worked with, Gill, was professional and personable. He came in, took care of my problem, and came back for a follow-up. It was easy to get an appointment. It was an old, family-owned company that was being acquired by a larger, nationally-known company. There was some concern about how operations were going to be. The customer service was fantastic.

I was overall pretty satisfied. After the second spray it seemed to work very well. They arrived on time; I signed up for a contracted plan.
Description of Work: A-Plus Pest Control did an initial spray for general pest control and then came back a month after for a follow-up. They sprayed inside and outside.

They were courteous on the phone and came out as soon as I could meet them. They've had to come out twice becuase the problem was so bad, but it was no problem at all. The second person they sent out wasn't quite as knowledgeable as I would have hoped (don't know he really knew the answers to some of my questions), but the problem is pretty much resolved. Those water bugs are resiliant.

I was excited to hire A-Plus Pest Control based on good Angie's List reviews and because this is a local, environmentally friendly company. However, I was ultimately very disappointed because they were unable to rid our home of carpenter ants even after repeated treatments, and the treatments used were messy and required time-consuming clean up. While the people I dealt with on the phone and who came to my home were pleasant enough (although scheduling wasn't easy), the treatments simply did not work. I was patient and had the company out 3 or 4 times but the ants never went away completely and always came back. I was also upset to discover after the fact that one of the methods of treatment was placing a sticky gum right along the baseboards in the kitchen - it was visible and all sorts of dirt stuck to it - when I asked how to get it off, I was told that it would just disintegrate. I ended up using a toothbrush and vinegar to scrubb it off! There was also some sort of bait scattered all around in excessive quantities, which we were told by (our new) exterminating company probably contributed to the mice that showed up in our house this spring. All in all, I really wanted to like this company, but cannot recommend them to anyone because they didn't get rid of our ants and they created a lot of clean up work for me on top of it.

I honestly don't know what happened. The first two services were done in February in cold weather, so we could not do outside. As for us causing her to have mice. That is totally bogus. Nothing we did caused mice to come into her house.

No one can keep ants, especially carpenter ants, out permanently. The customer said we solved the problem for the season. That is the best anyone can do. Carpenter ants generally live in trees and will probably come back every year.

Excellent. The response was prompt, the service professional, and the guaranteed follow-up was crucial. I subsequently discovered a wasp's nest inside my deck umbrella, and someone at A-Plus talked me through how to get rid of it myself.
Description of Work: They removed a carpenter bee infestation on my deck. A-Plus removed the nest and treated the entire deck with cedar oil to discourage the bees from coming back. Unfortunately, it rained the next day and the bees did build another nest. A-Plus came back and performed the service again, free of charge.

We had ants in the house. They came on May 18, and said they sprayed 20 gallons of cedar juice. It didn't get rid of our ants. We waited for a few weeks and called back. They said they would come right out. They didn't come. Called them again, they said the driver is sick. Called them again, they said the truck is broken. Called again, they said the truck was broken. Sent a guy out yesterday, he was here five minutes and the ants are still all over the house.

Very knowledgable and professional staff came to the house on time every time for appointments. Their schedular, Marlene was helpful and accomidating for setting appointment times that fit my schedule. The Technicians were friendly, and courteous.
Description of Work: We had Sugar Ants in the powder room off the kitchen. Our attempts at eliminating them were not successful. Rick answered my call himself and told me what they would do and their rate. He had their scheduler Marlene, call me back that afternoon and we set up an appointment that was convenient for me. Their Technician showed up right on time, covered his shoes with booties and went right to work as he explained the process and answered all my questions. He advised that we wait for approx. 2 weeks and if there were any ants that I saw to call them back. He said it was possible that there was one or more nests. I did need to call them back as we found ants in the room adjoining the Powder Room. They came back for the third time and we haven't had ants since. They used more than one product inside and outside the house. We paid one fee on the first visit and never were asked for any more money.

What this member didn't say is that he would not let us come into the house. When we do a perimeter treatment, it makes the building repellent outside & inside. Any ants inside cannot go outside. Since we never treated inside, how could we kill the ants inside? We were there 5/18, 6/23 & again 7/6. Again, In 3 service calls he won't let us inside. I called him today and offered to do inside free of charge. Again, he said, "no" and will not change the Angie's List rating. I think this is very unfair. Look at all of our A's & Super Service Awards.

It didn't go as expected because they never returned my call. I called someone else.
Description of Work: I had a pest emergency, and I called the company. I spoke with a very nice man who after a while told me my problem seemed to be over their heads but suggested I send an email explaining my problem. He said the guy would call me later that night. That was about 2 weeks ago, and I haven't received any reply.

Robert was very thorough and Marlene contacted us to let us know that he was on his way. He was very patient, very detailed and took care of the issue with the carpenter. The price was reasonable compared to other companies.
Description of Work: The did the pest control service for carpenter ants.

Excellent! He explained what he was doing, why the product worked and how safe it was for people and pets (I have 2 cats). Because it is all natural, I feel confident that none of my outdoor vegetables will be affected.
Description of Work: Treatment for black carpenter ants. The technician came out, went through the house with me to discuss where I had seen the ants and then treated all areas inside and out, including trees. He left me a spray bottle with a small container of oil based liquid that I can use to continue to treat the house if I want.
