The guy who came used 2 different materials on the 2 cracks. One material was an epoxy for the crack that had been previously patched, but which was dry. The crack that always got the water leakage had a different material because it was still wet at the time he worked on it. Whatever he did worked well because we had a horrendous storm a week ago & I stayed completely dry, even though my neighbors on both sides of me & also behind me got several inches of water in their basements. I'm very happy about this.
Description of Work: Patched & sealed 2 cracks in our basement. One leaked every time it rained.

If I needed the work done I probably would have hired them.
Description of Work: Shawn, who came to do an estimate on my basement was very nice and honest. I didn't have water leakage, so his company wouldn't be needed unless I wanted to spent a lot of money installing a sump pump, etc. This isn't really necessary in my case. I appreciated his honesty.

WE OFTEN FIND THAT BASEMENT WATER PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE FIXABLE BY THE HOMEOWNER HIM/HERSELF, OR BY ANOTHER TYPE CONTRACTOR. EXAMPLES INCLUDE LEAKING HOT WATER HEATERS, FURNACE CONDENSATE DRAINS, GUTTER AND DOWNSPOUT PROBLEMS OR ABOVE GRADE WINDOWS. WE CHEERFULLY MAKE THOSE OBSERVATIONS TO POINT THE CUSTOMER IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. OFTEN TIMES WE THEN GET REFERRALS BECAUSE WE WERE SO HONEST.

They dug up all around the basement concrete, cutting out the cement. They also put in a sump pump. After completing the job they cleaned everything! I only have only had one small problem, and they came right out to fix it.
Description of Work: We found leakage in the basement and had them come out for an estimate. We were having a lot of seepage in the basement, and we contracted them for the basement waterproofing.

Even though our building is more than 100 years old, the estimator assumed that we had to have a poured concrete foundation (we later learned that many old homes have stone or brick foundations rather than poured concrete). The estimator said we needed to have the crack (even though we had no evidence a crack existed) filled with epoxy and that if that did not work, we would need drain tile. After receiving different "fixes" from all of the different waterproofing companies that came out, we decided to open up the dry wall and saw that the foundation was stone and mortar. Therefore, an epoxy could not be used. We then looked further and discovered that the water was coming from a broken pipe and had nothing to do the foundation at all. It was disappointing that the estimator did not ask us more questions to try to pin point the problem instead of just giving us an estimate for an epoxy fix that would have been useless.
Description of Work: We were getting water in our finished basement and called out the company for an estimate.

WHEN WE CANNOT READILY DETERMINE THE FOUNDATION TYPE, WE "ASSUME" IT IS POURED CONCRETE BECAUSE 95% OF THE FOUNDATIONS IN THE CHICAGO AREA ARE OF THAT TYPE. THE MOST COMMON REPAIR METHOD IS OUR EPOXY / URETHANE INJECTION PROCESS. HOWEVER, THIS REQUIRES THAT THE INTERIOR WALL BE REMOVED. IT WAS OUR RECOMMENDATION TO REMOVE THE WALL THAT EXPOSED THE TRUE FOUNDATION TYPE. ONCE A MASONRY FOUNDATION IS EXPOSED, WE WOULD DETERMINE THAT A DIFFERENT METHOD WOULD BE REQUIRED. IN THIS CASE, A BROKEN PIPE WAS FOUND, AND A PLUMBER, NOT A WATERPROOFER, WAS REQUIRED TO DO THE REPAIR. THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF OUR PROFESSION IS THE DIAGNOSIS; WHEN WE CANNOT SEE THE FOUNDATION WE MAKE EDUCATED GUESSES BASED ON OUR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. CONTRARY TO EXPECTATIONS, WE DO NOT HAVE X-RAY VISION. THE IMPORTANT PART IS THAT BASED ON OUR RECOMMENDATION TO REMOVE THE WALL, THE PROBLEM WAS ULTIMATELY DIAGNOSED AND THE CUSTOMER PROCEEDED WITH THE REPAIR. WE SHOULD GET SOME CREDIT FOR OUR FREE CONSULTATION.

The technician (G.N.) arrived one hour before my scheduled time - good thing I decided not to run the errand that I thought to run. I was happy that he was early, but he should call the client if he will be early or late. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable; explained everything that he was doing; answered all of my questions; and educated me on foundations and leaks. He was thorough and did not make a mess. He also showed me how water from my clogged downspout gets into my basement - over the foundation line - not from the crack. I wondered what problems that could cause and I am glad to know.
Description of Work: Two cracks were repaired - one in the family room off from patio (treatment from inside), and one in the laundry room (treatment from outside).

They never called and when I asked them why they gave me attitude and blamed the estimator. The smell lasted 4 days, not half day as promised. They also never gave me a receipt, and promised one to be mailed. I still haven't received one 3 weeks later.
Description of Work: There was a crack in the wall in our basement, and they sealed it with a foul smelling sealant. We were told it would (the smell) last less than one day, but actually lasted 4 days. I am pregnant and very nauseous with smells, and it was not nice.

WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE MISCOMMUNICATION. TYPICALLY THE SMELL WILL DISSIPATE WITHIN 24 TO 48 HOURS, DEPENDING ON VENTILATION. THE CONTRACT TYPICALLY SERVES AS THE RECEIPT, BUT WE WILL BE HAPPY TO SEND OUT A PAID INVOICE. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE CRACK IS NOT LEAKING ANYMORE.

Overall it was an OK experience. The initial sales call with John was informative-- we ended up doing a lot of gutter repair to solve some of our water/flooding problems based on his info. A 2nd company found a different crack that this salesman did not though. Next was Field Supervisor Debi to inspect the basement and give some detail of what to expect- that went fine. Finally, day of job we had Martin leading a crew of probably 6 workers. The job took 2 days. When they say "prepare for dust" they aren't kidding. I thought just the basement-even with the furnace off it made it up to all surfaces of our bedrooms. Easily cleaned. The only snafu was a busted pipe-the jackhammer went right through an old cast iron sewage line. Martin was quick to show me the problem, but not so fast to claim responsibility. I called management-Andy responded promptly. A plumber was sent out on Day 2 of the job, the pipe was repaired, and work commenced. Overall product looks great, hope it works!

PART OF OUR PROCESS, WHICH DISTINGUISHES US FROM OTHER COMPANIES IN OUR FIELD, IS TO SEND OUT A FIELD SUPERVISOR TO PREPARE DETAILED SPECIFICATIONS FOR OUR JOB. HE / SHE WILL REVIEW WHAT TO EXPECT WITH THE CUSTOMER AND IDENTIFY ANY PREP WORK THAT IS REQUIRED ON THEIR PART. UNFORTUNATELY, SOMETIMES THINGS BREAK WHILE DOING OUR WORK. OUR POLICY IS TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND TO MAKE IT RIGHT. APPARENTLY THAT WAS DONE FOR THIS CUSTOMER, TOO.

I found the need to tell him that he was there to provide an estimate and not to call my mother "mama." When I asked two questions regarding the installation process such as how long it might take for the work to be completed, and he told me that I ask too many questions. I asked for information on his company to help us make an informed decision. Rather than a straight answer, he switched to complement our choice in dogs and to tell us that people with dogs always choose him over other contractors. Overall, he seemed annoyed anytime we asked him an actual question about the job at hand and didn't want to explain the process. Perhaps he had an off day. Perhaps he underestimated how his overly casual behavior didn't inspire confidence to grant his company such a big job. Had he not made measuring mistakes, explained the process and a little about his company, things might have turned out differently.
Description of Work: We received an estimate to install drain tile and a sub pump in our crawlspace. The salesperson they sent was rather unprofessional. First, he didn't measure the floor space to be covered correctly. I discovered his measurements were inaccurate when I compared them to the home inspector's report received a couple of days before and to estimates from two other waterproofing companies. The cost of the work to be done is of course dependent on the size of the floor space. The error made me wonder if this would cause subsequent problems in additional billing over and above the estimate or if they wouldn't properly cover the whole space. The rep sent said he didn't read the estimate request and didn't wear appropriate shoes for going down in our crawlspace. He seemed angry for getting his shoes dirty as a result. The second thing that we found bothersome was the rep's overly casual and rather impolite tone in response to questions about the actual work he was there to discuss.

PLEASE ACCEPT OUR APOLOGY FOR ANY MISUNDERSTANDINGS AS WE TAKE A GREAT DEAL OF PRIDE IN HOW WE TREAT OUR CUSTOMERS. WE DISCUSSED THIS APPOINTMENT IN DETAIL WITH OUR REPRESENTATIVE, AND HE ASSURES US THAT HE IS GENUINELY DISHEARTENED BY THIS REPORT AND WANTS TO MAKE IT CLEAR HE MEANT NO DISRESPECT TO THIS CUSTOMER, NOR AT ANYTIME WAS HE ANNOYED BY BEING THERE. "MAMA" WAS MEANT AS A TERM OF ENDEARMENT--ONE THAT HE USED WITH HIS LATE GRANDMOTHER AS HE THOUGHT HE FELT A CLOSE, PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH THE CUSTOMER. WE ARE DEEPLY SORRY THAT IT WAS TAKEN THE WRONG WAY. AS FOR THE DISCREPANCY IN OUR MEASUREMENTS: WHEN A CRAWL SPACE IS MUDDY WE TYPICALLY MEASURE THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF BRINGING MUD UP INTO OUR CUSTOMER’S HOME. AT NO TIME DO WE INCREASE THE PRICE OF THE JOB SHOULD OUR DIMENSIONS BE OFF BY A FEW FEET. IN CLOSING, WE GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS AND TRY TO BE AS HELPFUL AND RESOURCEFUL AS POSSIBLE IN THE PROCESS. OUR REPRESENTATIVE HAS HAD MANY POSITIVE ANGIE’S LIST REPORTS IN THE PAST AND TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF PRIDE IN HIS PROFESSIONALISM WHEN DEALING WITH ALL OUR CUSTOMERS. THIS IS THE FIRST NEGATIVE REPORT WE RECEIVED ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC REPRESENTATIVE. WE ARE TRULY SORRY WE FELL SHORT OF THE CUSTOMER’S EXPECTATIONS.

This company was very responsive. Bob came right away to look at the crack and make recommendations. He offered a 10% discount without prompting, and even offered advice on another problem (things we could do ourselves instead of paying them). The work was done within one week, and the workmen were prompt, courteous and thorough. They did try to talk me into doing other small cracks they found "for an additional fee", but I knew the cracks weren't problems so I didn't let them. The epoxy smells a bit nasty too. They include a warranty, but we haven't needed it. There has been no more seepage even with heavy rain.
Description of Work: They repaired and sealed a long vertical crack and one hole in our basement wall (poured concrete) with an epoxy/urethane injection.

The salesman, Brad Hironimus, came to the house promptly as scheduled. He was polite and business like. He understood my problem and went on to show me the work that they would be doing for me. Digging down to the foundation, from the outside, then applying a powder which when mixed with water, bonded and sealed the cracked foundation. If this procedure wouldnt work, at no cost to me, they would return and put an epoxy on the inside cracked wall. The work is guaranteed for a lifetime. I gave him a 10% down payment, he scheduled the date of the procedure, and the tech came in as promised. I paid the tech, and he went on his merry way. Now to wait for a substantial rain to see if the bond holds.
Description of Work: The tech dug down to my foundation floor, from the outside, applied a powder, when in contact with water, it forms a bond. When he finished digging, he called me outside to see that he had dug down to the foundation and said now he would apply the powder. I could hear the water being poured on the crack, and then he came in after awhile and said he was finished. When I came out, it looked like everything was back to normal. I paid him, and he left. I am very pleased with it all.

From start to finish I was very please with the service. The problem was repaired to my satisfaction the first time and they were prompt and professional. The price did not exceed the estimate and there were no surprises at the end of the job. All in all I would call them again in a split second if I had need of their services again.
Description of Work: The estimator, Eric showed up promptly and did an assessment of what needed to be done and explained in detail the complete process of waterproofing my basement. He showed me exactly where the problem was and what the repairman man would do. What i needed to prepared for the repairman. The repairman showed on appointed time and proceeded to go about the job in a precise and timely manner and was finished in a very short time. He told me of the warranty and that any return trips would be covered for the same problem.

Great company. Our representative Sean was easy to work with. Called us to see if he could come early when he was running ahead of schedule. Gave us Angie's List discount and a price break on the added work we found. Work crews arrived when scheduled and were pleasant and professional. We would recommend them and use them again.
Description of Work: We had some seepage in a storage area and found water was coming in through some nail holes in the wall. Our representative`s solution was an exterior subsoil membrane to seal a 5 foot section of the foundation. After removing some built in shelving we then discovered a separation in the wall and yet another crack under our stairs. We called our rep back and scheduled epoxy injection to seal these areas. When the crew was sealing those areas, they actually found another crack! They called it in and took care of it at the same time.

After a quick assessment, Bob Weitzman was incredibly helpful and up front about what the basement needed. And in his assessment, it needed nothing. He noted a crack in the wall, but stressed that since this was neither structural nor causing water to enter the basement, the repair would be more for peace of mind then actual necessity. If I needed work in this area, I'd use them.
Description of Work: I contacted the company and immediately received a call back for an appointment the following week. I received a reminder call and was told the representative would be at the house between 8 and 10. The representative arrived at the house precisely at 8:00

I set up an appointment for a free estimate. The company did a good job of confirming the appointment and the salesman called to let me know he was on the way 20 minutes ahead of time. Over the phone he began asking questions about the problems we were experiencing. He started to diagnose the issue over the phone and told me I would need a sump pump and drainage tiling, the most expensive possible solution to what was going on. I asked him if he was actually going to come to my home and take a look around. He told me he had 24 years of experience and could figure out what was going on just based on what I was telling him. Once he did arrive at my home, he continued to do a hard sale for a sump pump system and drainage tile. I felt that this individual was more interested in making a big sale than helping me solve a problem in an informed way. This experience made me very wary of using this company, and I am looking at other vendors offering this service.
