Jeff explained that US Waterproofing would use wall clay & epoxy/urethane and repair the crack from the outside using a post hole digger. Jeff did a very good job explaining the process; however we chose Perma Seal to do the job (even though their cost was higher). The Perma Seal process used a urethane sealant, a protective membrance and a wall of bentonite was built-up around the repair area. We were hoping that for the additional costs and steps we would have more assurance that the repair would be successful. Howver in the future I would contact US Waterproofing for repairs, even though we did not use them for this job I felt they were very professional to work with.
Description of Work: I contacted US Waterproofing to come out for an estimate. They came out the next day to give as estimate to repair a foundation crack, during every heavy rain we would get water in our lower level bathroom. We wanted to try a repair from the outside first.

After we "thought" we filled the foundation crack and rebuilt the back of house knowing water was coming in from the addition, we were in the stages of rebuilding our basement back to normal when the Hurricane Ike storm hit Chicago. The Saturday/Sunday rains flooded our basement after we had spent 2 months rebuilding the stairs, walls, insulation, etc. It was a nightmare. We called US WATERPROOFING. Douglas was the best! He knew exactly what we needed. We wish we did this system from the start. It was a whole process- 1) estimator 2) Field Inspector 3) work performed. The entire basement perimeter was cut out (they bring in cement grinders and cut out 12-18 inches from wall into the ground). In order to do this work, everything had to be cleared in the path of the cement grinder (we removed our fireplace, bar and bottom 2 steps). They laid the pvc pipes with holes in them and made the new sump pump next to the old one. Then the water from the new one, shoots into the old one. We had an unfortunate situation happen. While they were cutting out the floor, they hit our main sewer line which is a clay pipe. We had to hire plumbers that day (so time and a half $$$) to temp repair the pipe so when the city inspector comes out, he would not stop the process. This was very stressful and a big cost to us. The work was completed the following day and we have had a "dry" basement for the past few months. We were very upset about the pipe being cracked and having to pay $1,200.00 to the plumbers. We worked with US Waterproofing and they helped pay for this accident. In their contract in small writing it states anything they hit, they are not responsible for. How were we supposed to know our main sewer line was in the path of their machine? We can't see through the cement. They agreed to pay for half of the plumbing bill. It helped out, but it was upsetting because we didn't know it was there. They were clean, punctual, and professional. Suggestions: cover EVERYTHING with plastic tarps in your house. This is extremely dirty work. The cement dust covered everything in our home for 2 -3 weeks. I cleaned every night when the kids went to bed. We are so happy that we found this company.

We had approached 3 different companies. One company said that it will take a month for them to come in and fix the issue. However US Water Proofing came within a week to fix it. They educated us very well. They came with pictures, books and pamphlets and explained to us the issue and what they were going to do.
Description of Work: US Water Proofing fixed an exterior and an interior foundation cracks.

Quote was timely and was VERY thorough and detailed. They explained the exact work to be done and why it was needed. Work was scheduled to be done quickly. Before work was done an Assessor did a walkthrough to make sure all was ready for work to be done (including us). Workers were on time and worked clean , quickly, and efficiently. All work for our basement was done in 2 days. We had some minor issues (small leak in sump discharge pipe) and the problems was addressed courteously and quickly.
Description of Work: Full waterproofing package. Underground downspout extensions and bubbler pots on outside of home. Drain tile installed around inside perimeter of home and sump pump installed. Drains installed on window wells. New covers fitted for window wells.

The salesman/estimator was a bit high-pressure, but we had actually had two other estimates done that week and knew the ballpark cost for the repairs. So when he told us how much, we knew it was the best price and we were able to make a decision quickly. When we had the estimate done, we knew about two cracks (which had been previously "repaired" by another company and/or the previous homeowners) and thought we may have more once we removed the rest of the wall paneling in our basement. The estimator included a price per additional crack into the contract, and it worked out that it was cheaper to have them come in one trip and do all four cracks at once. Our price may have been a bit higher than normal, because they had to remove all of the previous materials from the older cracks. It took about a week to get the estimator out to our house and another week and a half to get the repairs done. It took about 3-4 hours for the contractor to do the work. It was fairly loud and REALLY stinky. It was winter when we had it done, so we couldn't open the windows as much as we'd like and it took about two days for the smell to go away. The guy did a fairly good job of cleaning up, but left a bit of a mess in our sink and in our shopvac. We also had U.S. Waterproofing come out a couple weeks later to give us an estimate on an interior drain tile and window well drain back up sump pump system. The salesman was very nice and explained everything very well (they have REALLY slick brochures with diagrams to help you understand how things work). He was willing to discount their regular prices quite a bit, but I think we will probably not go with them for that particular project because they are just a little too expensive. Overall, their service seems pretty efficient, they offer a great warranty and their estimators (if not their contractors) seem professional.

There was a big thaw, which caused some seepage in our basement. We removed some of the paneling where we thought water may have come in and discovered an old foundation wall crack repair with a 1989 penny stuck in it(a clever way of noting the year of repair). The problem was fairly easy to detect since you could see where it had leaked. We still have to see if the re-repair did the trick after a big thaw and/or rain, but hopefully the problem has been solved. The company gave us their guarantee. They were very responsive and completed the work just 3 days after we first called. Eric, their sales representative, was efficient and very pleasant to deal with. He quoted a fair price and was instrumental in scheduling the work to be done quickly. Mario and his co-worker(sorry, can't recall his name)did the job effectively in a short amount of time, cleaned up afterwards, and were easy to work with. Overall, we were delighted with US Waterproofing's performance.

While this company did not do work for us, I was happy that they were able to tell us the problem right away and did not charge us for coming out and doing the troubleshooting.
Description of Work: Although this company did not do work for us specifically, I wanted to provide a positive rating on what they did for us. After a heavy rainfall this past October, we noticed some moisture on one of the walls of our basement. We called to make an appointment. Understandably, since there was a lot of rainfall in that week, they could not accommodate us right away, but within a week, which was reasonable. A representative came and looked at our basement, and concluded that it was not a problem with seepage, but rather our gutters needed repairing. They did not charge us any money for this troubleshooting service.

They did a good job of inspecting the basement and had a price and schedule that worked well with our completing our project before the holidays. I would have moved a few more things if I had thought about the dust and slight mess. Even with that comment, I'm very pleased with the work. We did not anticipate the odor and might have delayed the work until we could have kept the windows open had we known. The odor was gone by the 2nd day after the work was done.

He was fine and didn't push me into anything immediately. He suggested digging the window well deeper and filling it in, but then I noticed we had water in the other window well. We are going to wait until next spring to fix the problem by figuring out how to drain the property better.
Description of Work: We had a seepage problem when Ike went over and left about 10 inches of water behind. We have been here for 4 years and never had a problem, so it was kind of a surprise. They discovered that the problems seem to be coming from the window well, so I had them give me an estimate for the repairs which totaled $600.

Overall, the project went very well. They arrived on time and set to work immediately. While the jackhammering was loud and dirty, they did their best to contain the mess and cleaned it up. There was one mix up about whether the inspector would arrive that day and whether they would have to fill the ditch another day, but all turned out well as the inspector was able to fit us in after all. I was surprised to find that they completed the entire project in one day, but they did! The results look good, but we have yet to test it out, as it has not had the hard rains that used to flood our basement. But we have a warranty should there be any problems.

The quote process went very well; the individual who did the quote was on time and did a thorough review of what he felt would solve our seepage problem. Our house is old and the basement full of cracks, but it normally stays dry with the exception of the large storms we occasionally get. The company recommended a sump pump along with drain tile in one spot in our basement. He also let us know all of the related work that would be necessary (permits, electrician, etc...). What he recommended was slightly different from the other company from which we got a quote; in addition, he recommended a plan that we later found out was now permissible in our city's code. However, the price was consistent with other companies, and the work was well-explained. We have yet to schedule the work.

We had used US Waterproofing once before and had been pleased with the results of the crack filling process they use. This time we had one small crack below a basement window, and during heavy rains some water would seep through and puddle on the floor near the base of the window. We called US Waterproofing and the estimator came out the next day to view the crack, give us an estimate, and schedule the work. The repairman came a couple of days later and sealed the crack in just a couple of hours. If you've never had this done before beware that the sealant has a very strong smell, but it goes away within a few days and the results are great.
