Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

The first contact was via email and online. It was positive. They advertise free estimates. When the plumber arrived, the free estimate was over $400 to rod the sewer line or over $300 to use the camera and video the line. I guess they should advertise that the free estimate is to tell you how much it will cost to tell you what needs to be done. Creative way to mislead the customers. Once the video was completed, I was told that I had 2 problems and it would cost almost $9,000 to fix it. The problems were a leaky sewer line connection and a sewer line collapsing. Basically they need to dig two areas, one about 4 feet and another about 6 feet and replace a couple of pipes, T connector and clean out. I estimate this should take no more than 12 hours. So, 12 hours at $750 per hour, not bad. I want to be a plumber now. By the way, all other plumbers confirmed that it should not take more than 12 hours of work. When I told the plumber that the cost was too high, he told me that there might be a way to repair the line without digging by patching the pipe. He told me and wrote on the estimate that he had to talk to his supervisor, Kris, to confirm and he would call me the next day to confirm. He never called me back, so they lost the business. Next chapter - I called four other plumbers. All of them suggested another way to correct the leaky line by replacing the pipe at another area to make sure the problem was fixed right. The final cost was way under half of what Roto-Rooter quoted. I do not recommend this company. 12-2-14 Review update. I was contacted by the customer service team and they sent my comments to Lynnette who called me and we had a productive discussion about the service call. She refunded the full amount of the service call and assured me that Roto-Rooter appreciates my business and wants to keep me as a customer. I was satisfied by the way she handled it. I will try them again in the future. Thanks for listening and for taking care of your customers. I appreciate it.

Everything went well. I felt like the technician knew what he was doing. He called for an additional technician who was in the area to bring a camera in to make sure the drain was completely open. Although I think the total cost was a little pricey, the technician claims I wasn't being charged for the camera technician's final check of the sewer line.

The Roto-Rooter technician (Giovann, tech# 2910) arrived promptly, carefully assessed the problem, and carried out the job efficiently. Giovann was friendly, courteous, and professional. Granted, the cost of the job wasn't cheap, but I've used Roto-Rooter several times before and I've never been disappointed by the work done or the by the people they send out.

Basement sink backed up on Saturday. I made an appointment for them to come out on Sunday between 2-4. They called around 5 saying that the plumber was delayed and would be another hour. I told them to reschedule for Monday between 8-11. Plumber got to the house at 11. Took about an hour to clean out the line, then presented me with a $415 bill. Had I known up front that the cost was that high, I would have called a local plumber to come in and do the work. I have no problem with the plumber, he did a competent job, but the company pricing is astronomical. I could have purchased my own drain cleaning machine for that!

DuPage County (Roselle) Roto-Rooter arrived in less than an hour. Provided free estimate. Fixed clogged toilet cleanly and easily. Tim was professional and pleasant. With a discount coupon, I was very pleased with the cost and service. Will be using them again.

They were really nice. The price was not great but they do what they say they are going to do.

Found I had a clogged kitchen drain on a Saturday afternoon. Tried to unclog it myself but in retrospect the snake I was using was not long enough. Finally broke down and called Roto-Rooter early evening. Got through to dispatcher on first try and made appointment for Sunday morning. Received a call 1/2 hour before arrival. Plumber arrived on time even though he had to navigate street closures from the Marathon. Unclogged the drain in short order though he was upfront about what he would do if initial attempt to snake the drain didn't work.appreciated the punctuality and professionalism.

They were excellent. They did the job right the first time. They had good customer service too. They also had good pricing.

Great! I received a call saying a plumber was available now - half hour before the scheduled time. Tim was professional and courteous. He explained everything and was in and out in no time. He even started the wash that was waiting. :-) I have used Roto Rooter before and will definitely use them again. Very stellar service by very qualified and professional plumbers.

I called and had a very quick response on a Saturday afternoon. Showed up within hours of my call and cleaned out my backed up sewer line. The service person was very professional and courteous. He explained everything involved clearly and discussed my future needs as well. Extremely happy especially after having a very frustrating situation of water backing up in to my basement.

I called around 4:00 PM and was told that someone would be out in about 3 hours to take a look at the water heater. The pilot light was not going on. I got a call from the technician and he was out in less than an hour.( That was great) Very friendly and professional. He told me what he was going to do and what the charge was for the work was going to be. He replaced the thermocouple on the State water heater. Was finished within a half hour. If anything went wrong within the next 6 months, Roto-Rooter would come out to fix it at no charge. Very happy with the service.

Called in the morning and had choice of appointment times! Had a two hour window but technician called and arrived 15 min early! Reviewed job, gave price, and started working. Explained everything in detail - and I asked A LOT of questions. Very friendly and patient. Also gave me estimated on other jobs and looked at my clean-out basin. Sold me preventive "stuff" but had to go back to office to get and then returned with it at no extra charge. So easy and quick - also found out that no extra charge for weekends (had I known that I wouldn't have waited until Mon morning). BTW - technician number 2197, Mark W. - hope I don't need him again but if I do, hope he is the technician on duty!

It was a very good experience. The pricing was fair.

They did what they were supposed to do. They were very nice. It was a little expensive. They took care of what needed to be done and they explained everything.

He looked at our non-functioning floor drain, answered a couple of questions and then proceeded to tell us that it would cost $460 to diagnose the problem (but the cost could be higher). He said he had to charge because if he broke something while he was investigating, he would have to pay for it, and they would fire him. When we said we would not pay for a free estimate, he seemed to be irritated and left. We later spoke to other plumbers and many diagnosed the problem as a non-functioning ejector pump by just asking us a few questions on the phone. We also had the problem confirmed by a plumber who investigated on site.

The estimate was free but their price for the work was way too expensive and the guy that came out was kind of rude. He should be more courteous and their prices should come down more. $800 is just outrageous for something that another company did for $100 and something but they responded well and their punctuality was okay.

Did a satisfactory job. I had had a backup. Primary problem diagnosed and treated. Made some suggestions about improving my basement drain as it appeared more problems which certainly might contribute to the backup I had. However, I did not follow those suggestions yet and have had no problems in the following 5 months or so. As I recall there was no scheduling or punctuality problem.

Jimmy did a great job, he noticed the pvc pipes were not put in correctly, he assured me he would fix it if the Rooting did not work and it didi.

I scheduled an appointment with them on a Monday for an estimate on a leaky pipe. They called me 30mins. prior to my window to ask me to move my appointment to the next day because they were backed up. I rescheduled to Tuesday for the same time 7p-9p. They called me again 30mins before my window to move it again. I moved it to Wednesday at thesame time because i work during the day. They called at 6:43pm and said they would arrive in about 45mins. depending on traffic. They did not show up unitl 9: 06pm in which i did not respond because it was after the window and i would not use them again. it was a waste of my time since i had to continue to leave work early each day to accomodate them, and they did not accomodate me.
