We had a broken garage door spring about 6 months ago- on a Sunday. Since we have a heavy wooden double garage door, we could not raise it without the springs, so we called around for emergency service and we ended up with a fly-by-night guy who replaced the springs- but, it turns out, with the wrong ones. After a few months, the garage door would not close completely- typically there would be a 2-4" gap at the bottom. Numerous adjustments to the closer did not correct this. The door would close ok - and then the next time we used it, the gap would be back. I got Dave's name from a friend- and gave him a call. He showed up on time. Spent over an hour examining the problem and making various adjustments- without success. Since these adjustments had not solved the problem, he told us the next most likely source of the problem was that the wrong (overly heavy duty) springs had been installed. A secondary issue could be the logic board in the opener, or the entire opener. He scheduled a return visit after he had time to research the proper spring sizing for our 40-yr old, heavy wood door. He returned (again, right on time) with the proper springs, as well as a new logic board and a new opener- he was ready to get this fixed, regardless of the actual source of the problem. He started by replacing the springs- and that was 100% of the solution- the door now works exactly as it should. He did not try to sell us anything else - even though he had come with all the other pieces.
Description of Work: Took time to do thouough diagnosis of a garage door problem (erratic closing - lack of ability to adjust the closer to work consistently) Suggested a series of solutions (rather than a "let's just replace it all" mentality Applied his first solution (new springs) - which solved the problem
